With the release of new album Diver just a few weeks away, Brooklyn trio Lemonade has unveiled the effort’s first video, a provocative clip for the song “Neptune.” Directed by House Plants and Weird Days, the relatively bare-bones piece focuses mainly on two things: singer Callan Clendenin and a girl taking a shower. Listen to a Track From Pariah’s ‘Rift’ EP

Only a couple of weeks after we hear that R&S will release Pariah‘s third record, we discover that it will be called the Rift EP, that it will arrive on June 11, and that at least one of its songs is pretty excellent. Below, you can listen to the sparse and moody “Signal Loss,” the second of three tracks on the UK artist’s forthcoming 12″. (via Pitchfork)

Video: Simian Mobile Disco “Pareidolia”

Hot off the release of the brilliant Unpatterns LP that garnered an XLR8R Pick earlier this week, Simian Mobile Disco has shared a music video for that album’s “Pareidolia.” Directed by Kate Moross and Hans Lo of London’s ISO art collective (who have workedwithSMDextensively), the seven-minute clip features a room of intertwined green lasers that strobe in unison with the track’s throbbing beat. The vibe isn’t too unlike a museum heist gone electro house.

Slugabed “Mountains Come Out of the Sky (Lapalux Saturation Remix)”

Here come the remixes for Slugabed‘s XLR8R Pick-worthy Time Team LP, which came out just this week. Lapalux (pictured above), the English mind behind XLR8RPodcast 245, just shared this take on Time Team‘s “Mountains Come Out of the Sky,” and it’s a “saturated” cut for sure. The track glitters with Slugabed’s original production, but Lapalux inundates the work in fat bass, glimmering synths, and distant vocal samples. It will eventually be released by Ninja Tune with additional remixes by Kutmah, ARP101, and more. (via Dazed Digital)

Giraffage & XXYYXX Even Though EP

Giraffage and XXYYXX are two young guns whose names seem to be rising in parallel from the current crop of Stateside bedroom producers. “Even Though” finds them working together for the first time, combining cross-sections of modern hip-hop and R&B along with the more neon side of UK bass music. As it turns out, the resulting collaborative effort is surely the best thing to come from either of their growing catalogs.

There’s not much in the way of surprises on “Even Though.” The song comes complete with the usual suspects—side-chained chords (some fuzzy, some filtered), swirling melodies, skittering hats and snares, tuned toms, and, of course, chopped female vocals. True, these elements have begun to verge on predictable (if not just straight up played out) in recent months, but “Even Though” proves able to find plenty of life left in the world of soulful, R&B-indebted beats. The tune is held up largely by the strength of its musical make-up, with a set of chords and melodies that are incredibly catchy and distinctly memorable, combining the bluesy sweetness of James Blake (circa “CMYK”) with touches of pop-infused bass music not too far off from the similarly young pair Disclosure. Everything appears to be constructed with the utmost detail in this production. No snare roll, stuttering kick, tuned vocal gasp, or pumping bass note is out of place; all of the elements are moving amongst each other in individually intricate patterns. Somehow, it all still yields a precise and cohesive track.

The original “Even Though,” by and large, eclipses the efforts of its remixers. Canadian chillwave champion Teen Daze manages to round out the edges of the tune, fitting it into a four-on-the-floor context while leaving much of the original’s warmth intact. One AM Radio makes a surprising appearance, reworking the song into a floaty, summer-tinged slice of the friendliest boom-bap. Irishman REID‘s remix does stand out a bit above the rest, taking “Even Though” to a place between hazy, filtered house and crispy bedroom beats.

In the end, “Even Though” is a fun, solid tune, strong enough to stand on its own. And while the remixers’ efforts are valiant, they really don’t equate to much. Your iTunes would be better served simply housing the original track, and saving space for whatever its pair of young creators come up with next, individually or collaboratively.

Stream a New Track from Fantastic Mr. Fox

Recent XLR8R podcast contributor Fantastic Mr. Fox has a new EP on the way shortly from Black Acre, and has shared one of its tunes ahead of that release. The slow-starting “Speak Nuh” is one of the San’en EP‘s four tracks, the only one without a vocal performance from Alby Daniels. You can listen to Fantastic Mr. Fox’s long-awaited new tune in all of its heavily swung glory before the UK producer drops his forthcoming record on June 4, below. (via Pitchfork)

Hortlax Cobra “Wasteland”

It’s been nearly six years since Peter Bjorn and John released the inexorably catchy indie-pop hit “Young Folks,” and the song is literally still stuck in our heads. Now, PB&J drummer John Eriksson is venturing off alone as synth-based project Hortlax Cobra, and will be unveiling his debut LP, Night Shift, under that moniker next month. “Wasteland,” one of the album’s 10 tracks, is a sparse bit of electronic pop that features multiple layers of synths, intricate percussion, and soft vocals from Eriksson. Night Shift will be released on June 4 through the recently formed Ingrid imprint and artist collective, which, along with PB&J, counts Lykke Li and Miike Snow as members. You can find a streaming sample of Night Shift, along with its complete tracklisting and artwork, after the jump.

Guy Gerber Tapped for Fabric 64

Tel Aviv tech-house whiz Guy Gerber has mixed the 64th installment of the Fabric mix series. The Israeli producer has big shoes to fill, hot off Levon Vincent’s XLR8R Pick’d Fabric 63, but he appears to be going all in by filling the mix entirely with new and unreleased productions, similar to the Fabric mixes of Shackleton, Omar-S, and Ricardo Villalabos before him. Fatima Al Qadiri “Corpcore (Kingdom Remix)”

Fatima Al Qadiri‘s 2011 EP Genre-Specific Xperience impressed us with its ability to draw from a diverse pile of genres and sounds with coherence and ease. Now, it appears that the EP is getting a similarly impressive remix treatment. The star-studded GSX Remixes drops on UNO next week, featuring reworks by Kingdom, Girl Unit, Ikonika, DJ Rashad, Nguzunguzu, Dubbel Dutch, and Dutch E Germ. LA’s Kingdom takes on Xperience closer “Corpcore” here, clearing up the original mix and adding in an array of physical bass rumbles and quick percussive flares. Nevertheless, the idiosyncratic electro ferocity of Al Qadiri’s original remains. Check out the artwork and tracklist of GSX Remixes, which drops on May 22, after the jump.

Sam Tiba Drops Third Jersey Club Mixtape

Last fall, Club Cheval member Sam Tiba began a series of mixtapes devoted to the infectiously hyperactive Jersey club scene. The firsttwo chapters were both impressive documents, especially considering that they were created by a DJ in France, but it’s fair to say that Tiba’s third volume, conceived in collaboration with Belgium’s Pelican Fly label and released today, takes things to another level entirely. Featuring more than 80 tracks, many of them edited by Tiba himself, the mix offers a rather comprehensive look at present-day Jersey club, in particular the scene’s latest generation of producers. One of those producers, Bubblin’ Up artist DJ Sliink, will actually be spinning alongside Tiba on June 27 at Social Club in Paris for a special Jersey club night co-hosted by Club Cheval and Pelican Fly. As for the mixtape, its artwork and complete tracklist has been posted below, along with a player where the mix can be streamed/downloaded.
