Dean Grenier, who until recently was known as DJG, has put together the latest chapter of the Frite Nite label’s podcast series. The San Francisco-based imprint, home to a variety of West Coast beat practitioners, recently dropped a split single from Grenier and label boss Salva, and has now enlisted the former to make an exclusive mix in advance of his additional new releases forthcoming on Tectonic, Photek Productions, and Frite Nite itself. Just a few months after releasing German duo Mouse on Mars’ first album in a decade, Modeselektor‘s Monkeytown imprint has picked up another veteran act, Miami-based producer Otto von Schirach. An accomplished and eccentric artist, Von Schirach began his DJ career at age 12 in 1990, bought his first drum machine in 1991, and has subsequently produced everything from breakcore and electro to calypso and dubstep. He also heads up his own TRIANGLE EARTH label, also based in Miami. Supermeng (artwork above), his first album since 2009’s Magic Triangle, will be available on CD, digital, and double vinyl on August 3 in Europe, August 6 in the UK, and August 7 in the US. Detroit veteran Omar-S will debut an all-analog live set at an afterparty for this year’s Movement Festival. As a producer, DJ, and the head of his own FXHE label, Omar-S has long worn many hats, but will be venturing into new territory with his first live set, which will include a live bassist, a live vocalist, and the producer himself operating on analog hardware. The party will take place at The Works on May 26, and will also feature Aril Brikha, Reference, and Ryan Crosson. (via Resident Advisor)

Bristol-based house producer Julio Bashmore is launching his own label, Broadwalk, with two of his own productions this summer. Bashmore’s first single dropped in 2009 via Claude VonStroke‘s esteemed Dirtybird imprint, and has since been followed by releases on Ten Thousand Yen, 3024, and Bristol’s own Futureboogie. Simply put, he’s now an established fixture in the underground house scene. As for the new label, Bashmore jokingly says, “I have found time between jet-setting around the globe, becoming a voice for the people via my Radio One show and generally living the high life to bring you a brand new label.” The first release is dropping on July 2, and the a-side, “Au Seve,” is streaming below.

In the wake of the unfortunate passing of disco legend Donna Summer, Altered Natives has posted up a remix of her classic “I Feel Love.” Apparently, the remix was made more than a year ago, but the London-based producer didn’t have the chance to properly do anything with it, or even play it out very much. The remix is posted below, along with Altered Natives’ own words about the track and Donna Summer.

Wrote this over a year ago.
I tried to get the vocal redone but it never worked or found a vocalist,
So it’s been in my bag ever since, in case I ever felt it a good opportunity to drop it.
Tbh. I’ve only ever played this out a few times, to nice effect.
First time, in Italy to a crowd who went nuts when it became obvious what the song was, then the police came and shut down my set early and they the crowd got upset lol.
Anyway im very sad to hear of the loss of Donna Summer.
I Feel Love was influential, I’ve always loved that bassline and especially how she ethereally floated over the original.
So im putting my version up for you to hear, out of tribute.

Glasgow native and fluorescent visual artist Konx-om-Pax (a.k.a. Tom Scholefield) is set to drop a new LP via Planet Mu, entitled Regional Surrealism. You’ve seen the videos and album art of Konx-om-Pax before; from the color-shocked fantasy worlds of Hudson Mohawke’s “Joy Fantastic” and Martyn’s “Viper” to sleevedesigns for Rustie and Lone, he is a prolific artist with a penchant for hyper-washed hues and fluidly realized environments. Interestingly, it’s said that Scholefield “makes music to chill out, a form of creative self medication. In contrast to his bright, synthetic and colourful artwork and videos, his music is more mossy and analogue.” The label promises a cinematic experience, as many of the tracks were inspired by the idea of rescoring films and TV with vignettes, spoken word, and more long-form, dramatic pieces in mind.
