Loopmasters Gives Away New DJ MIx Tools

Well known crafter of wide-ranging sample libraries, Loopmasters has decided to make a portion of its new DJ Mix Tools collection available as a free download for a limited time. The concept behind DJ Mix Tools is pretty simple: you get access to the stems (drums, bass, percussion, leads, etc.) of tunes from a variety of club-friendly genres for use in any way you wish, completely royalty free. The current offering incorporates elements from Loopmasters’ “Groove Tech,” “Mix FX,” “Swedish House,” and “Progressive House” collections, resulting in 500MB of samples. You can watch a short video explaining the concept of DJ Mix Tools below, and to get your hands on the free offer head here.

Charli XCX “Nuclear Seasons (Hackman Remix)”

Following his latest 12″ and before the release of his debut LP, As Above, So Below, Hackman turned in this excellent remix of UK synth-pop songstress Charli XCX (pictured above). As would be expected, the Leeds-based DJ/producer smooths things out a bit here, reigning in the buzzing electro-house vibes of the original in exchange for a blissfull, garage-indebted sound. Charli XCX’s vocals lend themselves perfectly to the sultry, stepping beat, which chugs along underneath her plaintive croon—resulting in a version of the “Nuclear Seasons” that could very well be the high point of the tune’s forthcoming single, which drops next Monday, November 21.

Galapagos “Feel Things Inside”

Hailing from the Southwest city of Phoenix, AZ, Galapagos is an 18-year-old producer who has been garnering an increasing amount of attention in the past few months with a string of free tunes on his Bandcamp, as well as releases for net-labels such as Absent Fever. “Feel Things Inside” is an example of what the young up-and-comer is capable of, rearranging Jennifer Hudson’s “No One Gonna Love You” into a skittering, arp-laden slice of catchy, melodious beat work. If the glitched-out R&B below is to your liking, we advise you head to the man’s various web destinations to cop more free Galapagos tunes. (via Altered Zones)

Wiley Reveals More Details for ‘Evolve or Be Extinct’

Earlier in the year, before 100% Publishing had even seen a proper release, we were already reporting on another planned release from the astonishingly prolific Wiley. Now, with just a few months before Evolve or Be Extinct drops, some more details have finally trickled in. The forthcoming record now appears to be an LP (rather than the EP format, which it was originally said to be), and according to the brief (and likely unreliable) Wikipedia page dedicated to the album, Evolve or Be Extinct comes complete with 21 tracks. What we do know about the LP is that Ninja Tune subsidiary Big Dada will release it on Wiley’s birthday, January 19. It will also feature much of the MC/producer’s own productions, along with two beats from fellow Brit Mark Pritchard. Furthermore, the album is being hailed in its press documents as “the best album (so far!) of this unique artist’s career,” with Wiley covering ground that is “dark, funny, wild and exhilarating” in one feel swoop. You can check the artwork and a “freestyle” radio rip that may or may not be the album’s title track below.

Video: Shlohmo “Couch (Soosh Remix)”

A few weeks back, we let slip an exclusive remix of West Coast producer Shlohmo‘s “Couch” by Glaswegian beatmaker Soosh. Since then, we’ve stumbled upon not just one, but two videos for the brooding, fuzzy track. The video above was directed by Bogdan Macoviciuc and is an extended slow pan of a prone, masked girl that warps and distorts along with the tune. The second video, which you can find below, was crafted by Deena Jacobs with a similar acid-tinged feel and features floating colors and shapes coming in and out of focus.

Myrryrs “Blood Of A Slave (Obey City Remix)”

On Halloween, Nashville producer Myrryrs released his five-song Blood Of A Slave EP, which contains three originals from the anonymous tunesmith along with two remixes. On this rework of the title track, Brooklyn-based producer Obey City (pictured above) takes the tune’s sparse beats and bass and fills in the spaces with dreamy synth arpeggios and extra cut-time percussion. The original song’s low-pitched vocals and bass get the reverse treatment on the remix, having been pitched up and turned into backing vocals and a melody, respectively, before being placed over the top of a newly constructed bassline. The entire Blood Of A Slave EP can be streamed after the jump.

Benjamin Damage and Doc Daneeka Ready Album for 50 Weapons

Earlier this year, Welsh duo Benjamin Damage and Doc Daneeka released “Creeper” b/w “Infamous,” a collaborative single on Modeselektor‘s 50 Weapons label that found the pair moving beyond their UK funky-leaning past and exploring deeper, more techno-oriented sounds. Apparently, the Modeselektor guys were so happy with the tunes that they brought Damage and Daneeka to Berlin, holed them up in a studio for months, and had them create a full-length album, which will be released early next year. Entitled They! Live (artwork above), the nine-track effort is said to be a “collection of Berlin-inspired, UK-influenced UK funky, deep house, tech house, Detroit- and dub-techno tracks.” Based on the song clips posted below—along with the complete tracklist—it appears that Damage and Daneeka have expanded their sound palette taken their music deeper than ever before. They! Live will be released on January 27, 2012.

Savile “Woman & Man”

As part of its ongoing video series in which up-and-coming artists are filmed while performing music in intimate settings, Lazy Day Lounge took a visit to the studio of Chicago-based producer Savile (a.k.a. Gianpaolo Dieli) to document the process of creating a house track. The video gives an up-close-and-personal account of Savile’s technique, beginning with his search for samples as he collects various field recordings in his neighborhood and continuing through the arrangement and editing process. Savile’s debut record, Being, comes out in January on the Amadeus imprint and will feature three originals and a remix of the title track by Youandewan. Check out the Lazy Day Lounge video after the jump.

Salva Yellobone EP

As the bass-music landscape becomes increasingly crowded, it’s harder and harder to recognize all the talented artists (not to mention chastize all of the lackluster ones), but with each passing day, it becomes clear that Salva just might be one of the most underrated producers in the game. Whether it’s a function of geography (he originally set up his Frite Nite imprint in San Francisco and now resides in hip-hop-heavy Los Angeles), his constantly developing sound, or perhaps just his quiet, unassuming persona, it seems like Salva simply isn’t getting his proper due. Nevertheless, maybe that’s about to change, as the Bubblin’ producer is currently encamped in Madrid as part of the Red Bull Music Academy, and has just released the Yellobone EP, the follow-up to his acclaimed debut full-length, Complex Housing.

While Salva’s music incorporates elements of house, techno, electro, and numerous subgenres that fall somewhere in between, it’s always been united by his reverence of big, clean sounds. That trend continues on Yellobone, most spectacularly on the propulsive title track, which delivers a precise assault of vintage drum and synth sounds with a ravey, warbling bassline and a subtle, albeit sultry, vocal. While there’s undoubtedly a lot going on, the potent song sounds sleek and stripped down, as though all of its elements could be counted on a single hand. Another solid cut is “Komodo,” a more hyperactive affair that pairs stuttering vocal bits with stop-and-start 808 percussion, thick bass stabs, and big synth chords. Although the term “future bass” remains mildly ridiculous, “Komodo” certainly sounds like it could have been delivered via time machine.

Yet the Yellobone EP isn’t all hard-and-fast club tunes. “Obsession,” a collaboration with Frite Nite affiliate B. Bravo, slows things down while adding an element of ’80s electro-funk into the proceedings. Truly a team effort, the song finds B. Bravo’s vocoder explorations meshing surprisingly well with Salva’s rapid-fire synth stabs and sharp percussion. Different styles also come courtesy of the two remixes of the EP’s title track, the first from beat-scene heavyweight Shlohmo and the essentially unknown 2KWTVR. Their quality take on “Yellobone” doesn’t turn down the tempo, but it does downplay the drums in favor of a moderately spooky series of synth melodies. Throughout the track, the drums—which at times hint at footwork—continually morph while shifting in and out of the mix, adding to the tune’s uneasy feel. The other rework comes courtesy of LOL Boys, who steer things back toward the dancefloor while dirtying up the drum sounds and inserting some melodies that are somehow both tropical and reminiscent of an ’80s Nintendo soundtrack. Topping the original “Yellobone” is a pretty tall order, but both remixes offer interesting takes on Salva’s impeccable production.
