Before the release of Machine City on November 28 via Svetlana Industries, Bulgarian duo 1000names is showing off a new video for “La Boheme,” a retro-sounding piece of slow house music and the first track from the album. The video seems to revolve around the early history of the compact disc and its use as an aphrodisiac, apparently with the not-so-subtle moral of the story being “buy our records and get laid.”
Saroos “Yukoma (Opiate Remix)”

We gave the original version of this tune by German trio Saroos (composed of members of Lali Puna and The Notwist) a “First Listen” a while back, and posted a more dance-oriented refix by producer/remixer Populous earlier this year. Now, we’re back with a third permutation of the slow and serene track, this time with a remix that’s sparser and even more laid back than the original. This glitchy edit comes courtesy of veteran electronic musician and composer Opiate (a.k.a Thomas Knak, pictured above), who strips away the lush, indie-rock feel of the original and replaces it with a dreamy and textured tone.
Throwing Snow to Helm Next Local Action Release

UK producer Throwing Snow has quietly been having himself a solid 2011—we’re still digging his recent “Shadower” b/w “Sanctum” single—and now he’s set to cap the year with a new record on London’s Local Action label. The three-track release isn’t due out until mid-December, and will be packaged with a CD-R full of unreleased material that’s exclusive to those that buy the vinyl. The release artwork and tracklisting are below, along with some preview clips of the songs on the record, but those looking for more substantial sonic satisfaction might want to also check out this recent Electronic Explorations mix from Local Action label boss Tom Lea.

Salem Readies New EP, Covers Alice Deejay

Apart from periodically entrancing/infuriating crowds with a series of live shows, Michigan-based goth/noise outfit Salem has kept a fairly low profile in 2011. It was little more than a year ago that the group graced the cover of XLR8R, and now the trio is ready to unveil the follow-up to its divisive debut album, King Night. On November 22, IAMSOUND will be releasing I’m Still in the Night (artwork above), a four-song EP that happens to include a cover of Alice Deejay’s 1999 cheese-trance anthem, “Better Off Alone.” Salem has gone ahead and put together a video for their version of the song, a clip that centers around footage of Gisele Bündchen and a fleet of paparazzi. The video is below, along with the complete EP tracklist.

Time Wharp “(M. Constant’s escape from) thedungeon”
Atlanta resident Time Wharp—who you may remember from this recent download, or this not-so-recent one—has released a free collection of remixes for later, an album he dropped earlier in the year. later.rmx, available as a name-your-price download on Time Wharp’s Bandcamp, offers 12 reinterpretations of songs from later, including this one from Boston beatmaker M. Constant, who flips “thedungeon” into woozy, head-nodding hip-hop territory.

Video: Blondes “Wine”
Throughout 2011, Brooklyn duo Blondes has been releasing a trio of 12″ singles through the RVNG label. Today, the third and final chapter of the series, “Wine” b/w “Water,” is seeing the light of day, along with this trippy new video. The pair has been celebrated for its epic take on astral rave sounds, and the video for “Wine” matches this aesthetic perfectly with footage of “gloving,” which is basically ravers spinning and twirling a bunch of shiny lights in front of their friends’ faces. Granted, these friends are usually completely mashed, making the whole experience a little more interesting for those involved. The 12″ is available here, and the artwork is posted below.

Beatwife “Walk on Water”

Beatwife (a.k.a. Planet Mu‘s Burnkane) recently released Cornbrail Acid (artwork above), a new album on Hyperboloid, a label headed up by Moscow’s Pixelord and Acid Mafia. Below, you’ll find album cut “Walk on Water”, a forceful, tension-filled piece of ravey techno that brings equal portions of uneasiness and danceability to the table. You can hear Cornbrail Acid in its entirety here.
Mouse on Mars Preps New Album for Monkeytown

Veteran German duo Mouse On Mars has a new album, its tenth, in the works. Dubbed Parastrophics, the album marks the duo’s first full-length in six years, and is scheduled for a February 24 release via Modeselektor‘s Monkeytown imprint. Parastrophics finds Mouse On Mars utilizing their own custom-made music production software, initially developed for an experimental orchestral project entitled Paeanumnion. The album will mark the fifth full-length release for the suddenly quite active Monkeytown label, alongside recent offerings from the likes of Modeselektor, Siriusmo and eLan.
Podcast 224: Samo Sound Boy

Over the past few months, a lot of space on XLR8R has been devoted to the exploits of Los Angeles DJ/producer Samo Sound Boy, a Trouble & Bass-affiliated artist who recently struck out on his own with Body High, a new label he’s launched with Jerome Potter of LOL Boys. The pair have also begun producing together under the name DJ Dodger Stadium, a project which delivered the inaugural Body High release in early October. Only six weeks later, the young imprint is humming along nicely, having dropped a second EP from the mysterious DJ Funeral, with several more releases already lined up for the months ahead. As such, we figured now would be a good time to invite Samo Sound Boy to put together an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast series. Flying through 21 songs in just over 40 minutes, the mix showcases his ability to combine club-ready house and bass music with bombastic rap rhythms. It’s more or less a mission statement of what Body High is all about, something that’s strengthened by the fact that nearly half the tunes—several of which are unreleased—come from the label’s still-growing stable of artists. Also worth noting is that nearly all of the artists in the tracklist hail from the US; after several years of UK acts getting the majority of the electronic-music shine, perhaps things are shifting back toward the American side of the pond, and it appears that Samo Sound Boy and the Body High crew are right in the thick of it.

Raja “Luv (Someone Else)”

The New York City beatsmith formerly known as InfinitiRock, now operating under the guise of Raja, recently unleashed a bevy of new tracks in the form of three beat tapes for the Astro Nautico imprint, respectively titled Red, Witch, and Color. Here, we have a tune from Color (artwork above), a collection of songs which finds the young producer exploring his more abstract and futuristic inklings. “Luv (Someone Else)” is a fine example, pitting a soulful, almost funky, synth progression against a skittering beat and tuned kick drums for a melancholy outing that is still befitting of some solid head-nodding. After giving the tune a listen below, you can head to the Astro Nautico Bandcamp to cop all three Raja beat tapes—which cover everything from dusty slices of instrumental hip-hop to solemn solo piano endeavors—for free.
