San Francisco-based producer/DJ Eprom has posted a new mixtape of mostly new, unreleased beats available for free on his Bandcamp page. RobotSexTape is a 30-plus minute onslaught of choppy, wonky beats with plenty of distortion and, of course, bass. Some might remember Eprom from his split 12″ with Eskmo, another SF resident, on Warp Records earlier this year. Sounds like Eprom has been busy crafting lazer-bassy g-funkin’ beats since then and his new mixtape has no shortage of aggressive, fuzzy basslines matched with an array of bloops, bleeps, and blaps to keep your head nodding, or maybe even spinning.

Barcelona’s El Guincho will be bringing his infectious rhythms and moody Spanish dance pop to North America at the end of September and into October with dates in New York, LA, and San Francisco. After his first record, Alegranza!, won the hearts of indie dance kids the world over with its intensely repetitive rhythms and tropical samples back in 2007, he’s returned with a new record, Pop Negro. El Guincho’s slightly deviated from the tribal sounds of Alegranza!, instead employing drum machines, synthesizers, and the likes on Pop Negro. Our recent feature on his new release finds him sharing some deep insights and theories behind his endeavor into the land of “dark pop.” Only eight days of shows in the US exist so far, but more dates will be announced soon. After a string of excellent 12″s and EPs for the Hemlock, Hessle Audio, and Brainmath labels, the soulful dubstep-rooted tunesmith known as James Blake will follow up his CMYK EP with another release for the R&S label, called Klavierwerke. If you don’t know German and haven’t headed to your favorite online translator yet, that title is “piano works,” which is only a slight misnomer. The four tracks on Blake’s forthcoming EP may only have bits of piano sounds on them, but much of the melodies found within those moody, preciously composed bass music pieces sound either written with or inspired by the age-old instrument. If you caught our write-up of “Home,” by Brooklyn-based indie starlet Glasser, you probably gathered that we’re pretty into the music coming from her debut album, Ring. That record doesn’t drop until September 28, but the good people at True Panther and Matador were kind enough to give the internet a full stream of it before the release date. From the True Panther website: “Something we haven’t spent much time talking about is how the album is loosely structured like the chiastic (or ring) structure used in ancient literature. Ideas are paired in symmetric order, often leading bidirectionally towards a certain concept. Songs are used to represent often contradictory emotional states. So we wanted your first listen to it to reflect that. No set beginning or end, just dive into the album and go with it.” We’re into that. You can get into Ring below.
