Oscar McClure “Weeds”

This cut from Oscar McClure‘s forthcoming album for matthewdavid‘s Leaving label, Compost (that’s the artwork up top), may be a short piece, but it wastes no time getting to the point. After a quick moment of harsh scratching noise, “Weeds” settles on a thick rhythm that sounds like it emanates from the rumbling core of an industrial power plant. The beat’s elements themselves seem like purely organic sounds deconstructed and reformed into a vignette of otherworldly beat music, much more of which will be available when McClure’s full-length is released July 27 with an album of remixes from the likes of Teebs, Baths, Asura, and matthewdavid.

Download a Free Podcast From The Blessings

LuckyMe cohorts Dom Sum and Fine Art (a.k.a. The Blessings) are about a month from releasing their debut EP, Galaxy High, for Amsterdam-based label Nod Navigators. But before that six-track release officially drops, the duo shared this beat-heavy mix for the second installment of the label’s podcast series. The Blessings’ 35-minute DJ set features a large amount of old-school and newer hip-hop jams, along with bits of soulful R&B, more-contemporary dance tunes, and assorted, mellower sounds mixed in for good measure. Stream the second Nod Navigators podcast here, and download it here.

Juj “Memories “

One of the beat-making youngsters from the Shlohmo-led WEDIDIT collective, Juj, shared this short ditty on the crew’s blog before this past weekend. Because of its brief length, “Memories” feels more like an interim tune than a fully developed track, but that doesn’t mean it’s not full of excellently sampled melodies, nod-worthy beat work, and enough atmosphere to lose yourself in, if only for two minutes. But Juj uses his time wisely, allowing each precious element its own moment to shine while constantly working them into a calming groove.

Thomas Hildebrand Readies New EP for Microcosm

This August, from New York-based label Microcosm, techno minimalist Thomas Hildebrand will release his debut EP of pared-down, experimentally hypnotic dance tunes. The I Repeat Myself Often EP is the first release for Microcosm in nearly two years, and boasts five original tracks from the NYC producer, which have come together after a long and involved process of Hildebrand producing, sharing, revising, cutting, adding, and amending his sparse compositions. You can check out the artwork and track list before the EP is released August 10, below.

Watch Skream’s New, Quasi-NSFW Music Video

We shared the behind-the-scenes, making-of video for Skream‘s music video for new single “Listenin’ to the Records on My Wall” last week, and now we have the finished product. The oddly Biblical piece uses the story of Adam & Eve as its focal point, showing both the creation of the two people and the world around them via well-produced and impressive-looking special effects. Along with flashes of religious iconography, there’s a slight amount of nudity and sexual undertones through the whole thing, which probably warrants an NSFW tag. Skream’s new album featuring “Listenin’ to the Records on My Wall,” Outside the Box, will be released July 26 through Tempa.

Stream the New Tiga Single with Remixes from Martyn, Efdemin, and Mathew Jonson

Sexed-up Montreal techno/electro wizard is releasing another remix single tomorrow, this time for the song “Gentle Giant,” which originally appeared on last year’s Ciao! album. Seeing the light of day on his own Turbo imprint, the “Gentle Giant” single features some real heavyweights scrambling and reassembling the pieces of the original track. Dubstep/techno/bass music demigod Martyn kicks things off, and he’s joined by minimal techno don Efdemin. Rounding out the release are two versions from Canada’s Mathew Jonson—indicating that Tiga either wanted to flex a little national pride, or maybe just wanted another ace techno producer to take a crack at reworking the song. Listen to all four versions below.
