Friedman, Liebezeit, and Klimek to Play TodaysArt 2010 Festival

Dutch music and arts festival TodaysArt is set to overtake The Hague’s city center with its sixth edition of audio/visual installments and live musical performances the weekend of September 24 and 25. Today, the forward-thinking curators of TodaysArt 2010 shared some finer details on the upcoming festival’s performers and artists. On the music side of things, producers Burnt Friedman & Jaki Liebezeit, Conrad Schnitzler, Andy Votel, and Klimek are among the first headlining performers to be announced, and performance-art troupe Gob Squad and architect/installation collective [The User] will be adorning the festival grounds with visual wonders as they share conceptual pieces based around the heady topics of digital culture, anonymity, and time. You can snag early-bird tickets for TodaysArt 2010 here.

Download the New Nite Jewel Jam, “Tonight”

XLR8R fave Ramona Gonzales, known to the masses as Nite Jewel (or perhaps as the frontwoman of the band Nite Jewel), is offering up her cover of Prophet’s ’80s synth-funk jam “Tonight” for free on the Nite Jewel website. Simply sign up on the site or in the widget below, and the MP3 will be sent directly to your email. Seeing as Gonzales name-checks Lisa Lisa as an influence, and put together this stunner for XLR8R with Dam-Funk, it’s hardly surprising that she’d take this turn. If you’re curious about comparing Nite Jewel’s version with Prophet’s, check out the (waaaayyyy trebly and poorly ripped) original here.

Poirier “Let Them Hate feat. YT (Mungo’s HiFi Remix)”

While Poirier continues his global bass assault, Mungo’s HiFi dubs “Let Them Hate” down a few notches, transforming a pummeling slice of bass into a fast-paced reggae jam that Lee Perry would get down with. Of course, YT‘s vocals are as fierce as ever, and keep the remix—which appears on the second disc of odds and ends that comes with Poirier’s new Running High album—as sizzling as the original. And if you’re on the West Coast in the next week, check out Poirier’s Myspace page for dates in LA, Vegas, and the Bay Area.

Stream the Latest Party Jam From !!!

Disco-and-funk-obsessed octet !!! delivered a brand-new morsel of burning dancefloor fodder today. The groove merchant’s new single is called “AM/FM,” and comes directly from the Brooklyn-based outfit’s upcoming fourth album, Strange Weather, Isn’t It?. !!!’s new song is more or less what you’d expect from a band whose reputation is built on funky, repetitious basslines, wah-guitar riffs, and profuse amounts of percussion, which is certainly not a bad thing. Stream the new track over on Pitchfork before Strange Weather, Isn’t It? is released August 24 via Warp.

Mogwai to Release First Live Concert Film, Album

The Glasgow denizens and post-rock progenitors of Mogwai are set to add another couple pages to their six-album, 13-plus-year musical history. On August 24, Mogwai’s three-night residency at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg in April 2009 will be turned into Burning: 45 minutes of crushingly loud and preciously subtle orchestrations performed over eight contemporary classic songs and captured on film by Vincent Moon and Nathanael Le Scouarnac of La Blogoteque’s Take-Away Shows. The official live concert film comes with an accompanying live full-length, entitled Special Moves, which expands on the forthcoming footage by three songs. While you wait patiently for the release date, get your hands on a song from Burning, “New Paths to Helicon Pt. 1,” and watch the full trailer below.

Archie Bronson Outfit “Hoola (Motor City Drum Ensemble Remix)”

Berlin’s Motor City Drum Ensemble does his usual routine on this remix of London-based indie-rockers Archie Bronson Outfit‘s new single, taking the pleasant, rocking stems from the original of “Hoola” and filtering them through a German’s perspective of what Detroit house sounds like. In fact, this remix sounds almost exactly like a Moodymann or Mike Huckaby outtake, and considering the genius of those two producers, this is high praise.

Lil B “Real Life (Pictureplane’s True Reality Re-Edit)”

Sounding something like we imagine Pictureplane‘s new party, Real Is a Feeling, to sound, his treatment to rapper Lil B’s “Real Life” marries the original track’s gritty vocal performance with producer Travis Edegy’s patented style of electro-influenced darkwave music. It’s not exactly a song we’d expect the Denver native to take a crack at, but Pictureplane’s distorted bass synths and crunchy beat work make Lil B’s flow sound right at home. (via Pitchfork)

Video: Los Rakas’ “Soy Raka”

Bay Area-via-Panama crew Los Rakas have a new video out for their single “Soy Raka,” and it sizzles with some of the finest Latin-flavored turfin’ you’ve ever seen. Filmed in East Oakland, the vid features kids in traditional dress as well as members of the Turf Fienz crew doing some nasty footwork along the streets. While you’re watching, peep Uproot Andy’s mix of Los Rakas’ take on Gyptian’s “Hold Yuh,” which we posted this past Monday. (Via FADER)
