Ghostly International to Release New Mary Lattimore Album

Ghostly International will soon release a new album from LA-based harpist Mary Lattimore.

Lattmore’s solo debut, The Withdrawing Room, was released in 2013 on Desire Path Recordings, and she last appeared on Ghostly with March 2016’s At The Dam LP. She’s now set to return with Hundreds Of Days, recorded mostly during a residency at the Headlands Center For The Arts, in the hills outside of San Francisco.

We’re told that the album “draws on her move away from the East Coast, and the distinct shift in mood from one place to another.”

mmph Announces Debut EP

mmph will release his debut EP, Dear God, on April 13 via Tri Angle Records.

mmph, real name Sae Heum Han, is a 24-year-old Seoul-born, Boston-based producer. Classically trained since childhood, he first came to Boston to study Cello performance at Berklee College of Music before turning his concentration towards electronic production and design and starting his project as mmph. Dear God is said to mark a “turning point in the rapid evolution” of this young producer, “a merging of his classical training, sophisticated composition, and unique sound design.”

Dear God comes along just as mmph’s involvement in serpentwithfeet’s eagerly anticipated forthcoming album, soil, was revealed, alongside recent production work for newcomer Lauren Auder and music legend David Byrne on his latest album.

“Dear God was written in times filled with doubt and personal hardship. Experiencing personal tragedies and uncontrollable nature of our lives, writing the EP was the only way I knew how to cope and deal with these events. Simultaneously, attending school for music, you are constantly surrounded by criticism and anxiety. The love you have for the art is often overshadowed by the expectation of excellence and virtuosity. My personal love affair with music became one of my last priorities.

“Writing this EP not only let me vent, but it also helped me fall in love with music all over again. Ironically, it was the last thing I sought but ended up becoming the medicine that I desperately needed.

“The rose that’s represented in the album artwork describes it all: I received it on my birthday and pinned it to my bedroom wall and it became the first and the last thing I saw during my day when I started writing the EP. It was there when I learned of my mother’s illness, my friend’s tragedy, and when I met the love of my life. It went through all of it with me and it’s still there.” — mmph

Tracklisting

01. Sun God
02. Façade
03. Past Lives
04. Wilting
05. Blossom

Dear God LP will land on April 13 via Tri Angle Records. Along with today’s announcement, mmph is sharing a video directed by Maria Constanza Ferreira for the lead track, “Sun God.”

Turkey’s Mutlu San Debuts on Lessizmore

The next release on Belgium’s Lessizmore comes in the shape of a four-track EP from Mutlu San.

Mutlu San is a rising producer, performer and DJ, as well as a Sound Designer and soundtrack artist, from Istanbul, Turkey—with one previous solo release, in 2016. He also works in partnership with fellow Istanbul artist Batu Güler as Bärtaub; the pair recently released the Rhizome EP on Lumières De La Nuit.

His Deep Sea Mosaics EP follows Ferro’s The Neverending Story EP on Lessizmore, and moves from “a hypnotic micro-house roller to an exercise in immersive sound design and on to a meditative ambient piece to soothe a restless head.” On remix duties are Bärtaub and Tolga Fidan, who makes his first appearance on Lessizmore since the earliest days of the label.

Tracklisting

A1.Deep Sea Mosaics
A2.Deep Sea Mosaics (Tolga Fidan Remix)
B1.Phylum (Bärtaub Remix)
B2. Sub Glacial Funk

Deep Sea Mosaics EP will land on March 13, with “Phylum” (Bärtaub Remix) streaming in full below.

oOoOO & Islamiq Grrrls ‘Be On Through’

Berlin-based oOoOO & Islamiq Grrrls will release a new collaborative album on Nihjgt Feelings Records, titled Faminine Mystique.

The long-player is an allusion to the Betty Friedan book “Feminine Mystique” that inspired the second wave feminist movement in the US. Friedan said that while society was providing (middle class) women with historically unparalleled material abundance, it failed to allow space for personal growth. A rigid apparatus was keeping women in a narrowly defined social role that all but excluded self-exploration.

Pronounced “Famine in Mystique,” the LP’s name reflects the duo’s feeling that, in a similar way, an increasingly powerful set of contemporary social forces are aligning to, on the one hand, provide people with more music and art than we’ve ever had access to before, yet rigidly limiting the types of music offered to sounds that favor a rigid economics first model of clicks & easy consumption over exploration and experimentation.

We’re told that the 13 songs are “framed by fragments of lost, forgotten, or discredited 20th century artists &and genres”—the well-crafted guitar solos of ’80s metal; jazz guitarist Barney Kessel; the Ashley’s Roachclip drum break; Milli Vanilli; a Kool DJ Red Alert radio show barely audible on some bedside clock radio in some blue-collar town on the outskirts of Manhattan; a freeform saxophone solo over a two-minute, feminist juke-punk anthem.

The first video single, “All of Me”—streaming above—is in part a visual homage of sorts to the Fellini film “Juliet of the Spirits” & Henri-Georges Clouzot’s abandoned, incomplete film “L’enfer.” The video tells the psycho-dramatic story of a woman obsessively chasing after the one she loves, who in return, ignores her to chase another woman. In her disappointment, she enters a state of delusion, incapable of distinguishing her hallucinations from reality. The short film was directed, shot, and edited by Islamiq Grrrls.

In advance of the album’s May 18 release, you can download “Be On Through” via the WeTransfer button below.

Project Pablo Announces There’s Always More At The Store EP

Project Pablo will release a new EP on Ninja Tune‘s Technicolour imprint this coming April.

The Canadian producer has built an impressive discography in recent years with a stream of releases via labels such as Clone’s Royal Oak imprint, Spring Theory, Lone’s Magicwire, and most recently his Hope You’re Well EP on Technicolour.

We’re told that the EP sees him return with a “sleeker, more refined” EP. “For this record, I pushed myself to keep things more minimal than usual, in a relative sense,” he explains. “Focusing on repetition in melody, rhythm and harmony, putting a lot of trust in my initial ideas and letting them play out. It was harder to stop than to add more.”

Tracklisting

01. Napoletana
02. Remind Me Tomorrow
03. Last Day
04. Less and Less
05. I Heard You Breathing

There’s Always More At The Store will be released on 12”/Digital via Technicolour on April 6, with “Less and Less” streaming in full above.

Premiere: Hear a Psychedelic Cut From The Sabres of Paradise

A Sagittariun will re-release The Sabres of Paradise’s “Lick Wid Nit Wit” on March 16 via his Elastic Dreams label.

The Sabres of Paradise—a trio made up of Andrew Weatherall, Gary Burns, and Jagz Kooner—originally produced “Lick Wid Nit Wit” over 25 years ago, releasing it on a multi-artist compilation CD in a limited run. The track would go on to gain notoriety after it was featured on Weatherall’s 1993 Radio 1 Essential Mix, which is also evidently how A Sagittariun chanced upon the track. The new release will feature the original cut alongside two brain-melting techno remixes from A Sagittariun, both of which take the psychedelic original into new hypnotic territory.

The release is set to drop on 12” vinyl and digital download on March 16, with the original cut streaming in full via the player below.

Premiere: Hear the Latest Electro-Tinged Cut from Martyné & Jacob

Martyné & Jacob will return to their own Traffic Records for the label’s 12th release, landing after EPs from Z@P, Bodin & Jacob, and several various artist compilations.

Those fans of weirdo minimal house, electro, and off-kilter techno will be aware of the Frankfurt label. Alongside Patrick Klein and Bodin Stojanoski (a.k.a Bodin), Martyné and Jacob founded the label in 2013 and it has since become a focal point of what some feel is something of a Frankfurt renaissance. Releases, though infrequent, have become a staple in many of the world’s finest purveyors of these playful sounds.

Martyné & Jacob’s last collaborative effort on the label landed in 2016, and their upcoming return features three quality and fun minimal cuts in tune with the label’s aesthetic. Given the quality of the production, choosing one track to stream in full was no easy task, but we opted for B2, “Große Pause,” which you can hear below ahead of the EP’s late March vinyl-only release.

Tracklisting

A. Quasequini
B1. Quasi
B2. Große Pause

Deathstar EP will land later this month, with “Große Pause” streaming in full below.

Artwork by Jan Paul Müller.

Traffic Records will be presenting a showcase at this year’s Lisboa Electronica event, taking place from Wed, April 4 until Sunday, April 8 in Lisbon, with more information, including tickets and lineups, here
