NorthSouth Records Preps EP From Christian Jay and Bilal, Shares Track

On October 28, NorthSouth Records will return with their second release, a split EP from Christian Jay and Bilal.

Following on from the Chris Geschwindner and Henry Hyde split, NSR002 once again features two cuts from each producer on each side. On the north side, Berlin-based Bristolian Christian Jay drops two bass-heavy, garage-influenced heaters that beg for a soundsystem, whilst on the flip on the south side, Bilal goes down a faster and trippier route with two synth-heavy grooves.

You can pre-order the record here ahead of the release, with Christian Jay’s “Enclave” streaming in full via the player above.

Atjazz & Zano ‘Truth’ (Ben Gomori’s You Can’t Handle It Remix)

Earlier this year, Ben Gomori released his Monochord EP via Atjazz Record Company.

The EP featured two smooth-as-silk deep house cuts from the Monologues Records label head. Via his releases and labels, Gomori has built a solid reputation as one of the most consistent UK producers operating on the deeper side of house.

In the lead up to the Monochord EP, Gomori remixed Atjazz & Zano’s “Truth,” which is being offered as today’s XLR8R download. Like much of his output, the remix finds Gomori going deep with chunky low-end grooves and alluring synths.

Monochord can be grabbed here, with Gomori’s remix of “Truth” available via WeTransfer below.

Due to temporary issues regarding the GDPR, EU readers can download the track here.

Bonobo Releases New Video For ‘Break Apart’ (feat. Rhye)

Bonobo has shared a new video for standout album track, “Break Apart’” featuring Rhye, directed by Spencer Creigh.

The video is centered around three young couples, in three separate 24-hour periods as they spend an entire day together in one motel room with no phones, televisions, or other distractions. Each comes with their own unique histories, proclivities, and dynamics.

““I wanted to create the sensation that you, as the viewer, are somehow participating in voyeurism by watching the video,”” explains Creigh. ““There’’s this great dichotomy that you experience watching the video where you’re simultaneously moved by watching these very authentic moments of true feeling and then this uneasy feeling that you’re invading their privacy.”

Having produced the footage on no budget, the collaboration only came about when Creigh decided to reach out to Bonobo and his team direct. “”Spencer approached me last month with this touching video for “Break Apart’”,” explains Bonobo—who loved it from the very first watch and decided to use it as an official release. “I’m happy to be able to share this with everyone.””

The video is streaming via the player above.

Hear an EP of Driving House Cuts From Alex Burkat

Early next week, The Nite Owl Diner will drop their 10th release, Last Days of Flatbush, from label co-founder Alex Burkat.

For their tenth release, Burkat appears for his first full EP on the label with four muscular house cuts that are already picking up steam with support from DJs such as Kornel Kovacs, The Black Madonna, Eddie C, Octo Octa, Honey Soundsystem, and Jacques Renault. The EP also includes a guest collab from Nite Owl alum Policy, who joins Burkat on stomping b-side track “Style Wars.”

Last Days of Flatbush will drop on October 30 and can be pre-ordered here, with the EP streaming in full below.

JK Flesh (a.k.a Justin K Broadrick) Preps EP on Regis’ Downwards

Justin K Broadrick will release a new EP on RegisDownwards as JK Flesh, the alias he employs for his solo work within the realm of heavy/brutal electronica/techno.

Justin K. Broadrick’s output is an intimidating one. He began, aged 15, with the recording of his first—and last—record with Napalm Death. From there he formed pioneering industrial metal group Godflesh. He also met Kevin Martin (a.k.a The Bug) and began experimenting with everything from dub and techno to hip-hop, breakbeat as Techno Animal. Together they produced four albums, plus a collaboration with Porter Ricks.

JK Flesh debuted in 2012 with the album Posthuman but its lineage can be traced right back to Kevin “K-Mart” Martin and the pair’s psychedelic industrial techno project, The Sidewinder, which was picked up by Mille Plateaux in 1996. The studio pet-name would later become his alter-ego: “JK Flesh is the angry, hateful, disenchanted side of what I do with electronic beat-driven/bass-driven music.”

There’s since been the stinging Worship Is The Cleansing Of The Imagination since, a split with Prurient, and Suicide Estate on Hospital Productions. Electric Deluxe had the honor of bringing the next JK Flesh album kicking and screaming into the world: Rise Above was released in June 2016 and displayed an move towards a new form of sludge industrial techno. Legendary techno label Downwards put out the Nothing Is Free 12″ single next, complete with Surgeon remix.

The upcoming Exit Stance four-tracker is said to explore a “more dancefloor approach, taking in all of Broadrick’s legacy.”

A2 / 2. Motivated By Jealousy
B1 / 3. Bullied By Love
B2 / 4. Caveman

Forrests Return with Five-Track EP

Forrests will soon return with a new five-track release, Polydrug.

Forrests is a two-piece electronic music group from Dublin. They released their debut album Wilder in 2013, followed by Organs, a four-track EP that landed in 2015.

Polydrug is a sister record to Organs and was recorded in a variety of spaces in Dublin’s north inner city, with many of the sessions undertaken during an ill-fated attempt to build a recording studio in a shipping container.

The duo describe the record as a “kind of fever dream of the various places we recorded. An ode to the chaos, kindness, and mutualism”.

Tracklisting

01. Jono
02. Polydrug
03. Corridor
04. Jaundiced
05. Lake Tape

Polydrug EP will land on November 17, with “Jono” streaming in full below.

DJ Unrefined ‘HOWL011.5’ (Howl Ensemble Reconstruction)

Italian label HOWL is back on track for the autumn season with some fresh dancefloor tracks from DJ Unrefined.

The Italian duo Howl Ensemble—label owners Giovanni Verrina and Germano Ventura—enrich and complete the EP with a timeless remix where the bumpy bass and restrained synth stabs support the minimal rhythms.

The Undici EP will land on November 6, while a different unreleased Howl Ensemble reconstruction can be downloaded via the WeTransfer button below.

Cyclades ‘Grand Amour’

French duo and live act Modern House Quintet have just launched a new label and release under the Cyclades moniker.

The EP, Donoussa, follows a host of well-received EPs on their own self-titled label (Modern House Quintet) and serves as a further reminder of their ability to craft irresistibly funky dancefloor tracks. From the melancholic grooves of the EP’s title track to rich chords of “Conte dété” and the banging 909 rhythms of “Grand Amour,” Donoussa is an EP with subtle grace and much dancefloor aplomb.

You can pick up the EP here, with “Grand Amour” available as a free download below.
