Skudge ‘Traveller’

For its 10 years celebrations, Be As One has unleashed a special V/A release in two parts with previously unreleased music by the imprint artists and frequent label collaborators. Two 12” with unreleased material from the label head Shlomi Aber, Truncate, Skudge, and JAM., who are featured on the first instalment; while Markus Suckut, Savas Pascalidis, Eduardo De La Calle, and Yotam Avni joined the celebrations in the second part of the series. Music by Spanish ORBE and Lincan Ray closed the collection with digitally exclusive tracks.

Following the release, Skudge’s “Traveller” is exclusively available for download via the WeTransfer button below.

Premiere: Stream Odd Nosdam’s Stunning New Album in Full

Bay Area artist Odd Nosdam will drop his latest album on his own Burnco Records (distributed by Alpha Pup) and Greek label Sound In Silence on July 28.

The album, titled LIF, follows 2015’s Music For Raising LP and references a bulk of the Anticon co-founder’s work as a solo artist and in groups such as cLOUDDEAD and Reaching Quiet, as well as various Anticon releases. Across ten emotive cuts, and with a sonic palette that has wound its way through effects chains that include tremolos, tape-delays, space echoes, and distressors, LIF hypnotizes the listener, layering loop upon loop to mirror the torrential rainfall the Bay Area was receiving during the time of recording. Through these hazy and foggy pieces of ambient bliss, Odd Nosdam pulls the listener into waves of meditation, confusion, and beauty.

LIF will drop on multiple formats on July 28, including digital streaming platforms via Burnco Recs and a limited-edition CD pressing from Sound In Silence. You can pre-order the record here.

Leifur James ‘Red Sea’

We last heard from producer and multi-instrumentalist Leifur James back in April with the release of his track “Time,” a deep and affecting cut influenced by the worlds of jazz, hip-hop, and house. Now, Leifur is back with his latest single, “Red Sea.”

“Red Sea” is inspired by Leifur’s time spent filming in Morocco in the sleepy fishing town of Essaouira, a place reflected in the moody atmospheres and beautiful wind-swept instrumentation of the track. Throughout the five-minute run-time, Leifur layers field recordings of the Essaouiran sea at dusk, which further adds to the track’s dreamy nature.

You can pick up “Red Sea” via WeTransfer below, with more from Leifur here.

Additionally, there is a Honey Soundsystem Generator remix by Jackie House, one by the super-Swedes, Samo DJ & Pedrodollar, and also Pilooski, who played the first ever H+P party back in 2007—completing another circle during the 10th anniversary year.

Nick AM ‘Rush’

The latest single to drop on Shoeboxx Recordings is a groovy cut from New York-based Nick AM.

Over the last couple of years, Shoeboxx have become XLR8R favorites, dropping numerous cuts via our ever-popular downloads section. The latest, “Rush,” follows Mudchute’s “On Your Skin” with four-minutes of bass-heavy garage.

“Rush” is available on all online platforms and offered today as an exclusive download, available via WeTransfer below.

Download an Ethereal Dub-Techno Mix from ANRI

Japanese DJ and producer ANRI has been honing her craft since the age of 18 when she moved from her hometown of Yokohama to Tokyo where she quickly became a regular at clubs such as Womb, Ageha, and Air. Following a period living in Melbourne, she now lives in Berlin where she holds a residency at Chalet with her monthly Moshi Moshi Techno Nacht party and is also a resident of the quarterly Tokyo Redlight party at Salon zur Wilden Renate.

When and where was the mix recorded and what was the idea behind it?

I recorded this set at my friend’s place, on her CDJ 2000s and with a Pioneer DJM800 mixer. When I make a podcast I always set out to tell a story, I like to weave transitions between light and dark as two opposite sides of beauty.

How did you choose the tracks to include?

I like to go between dub and techno, I am inspired by my favorite artists who have similar taste and artistic concepts.

What gigs have you played recently / are you playing at in the near future?

I played a fashion week after party for a Berlin-based Italian designer, Atelier About. I find the crossover between music and fashion very intriguing; designers are passionate about their work and also identify themselves by their creative output. I also played at a masked ball party during the Venice Carnival which was really interesting. The whole party was filmed for an art-movie, but there was no acting involved, I just played as I always do and had fun with the crowd.

Premiere: Hear a Teeth-Rattling Cut From Talker’s New EP

On July 24, Jonathan Krohn and Karl Meier will return to their Talker project to inaugurate their new Standards & Practices label with Battle Standards.

Battle Standards is the first piece of output since the duo’s 2014 full-length on Karl O’Connor’s Downwards imprint, presenting three cuts aimed squarely at the floor. The release draws on material created for their new live show, focusing on the more brutal end of the techno spectrum. Musically, the tracks are tense and mechanistic, DJ tools built from blasts of noise, mechanical drums, and haunting synth lines.

Ahead of the release, Krohn and Meier have offered up up full stream of EP’s closing track, “Snub Nose,” a hypnotic, teeth-rattling bomb. You can pre-order Battle Standards via Standards & Practices Bandcamp page.

Aphex Twin Launches Online Store with New EP and 40+ Unreleased Tracks

Aphex Twin has opened up a new digital archive and record shop featuring a wealth of new and old material from aliases AFX, Polygon Window, GAK and The Tuss.

Included within is a four-track EP with two AFX remixes credited to Luke Vibert. Also available is the Field Day record, which is now released digitally with six extra bonus tracks.

There are also several vinyl reissues and a heap of bonus tracks to many of his releases, while his 2007 record as The Tuss, Rushup Edge, originally released on Rephlex, is also available digitally.

Additionally, “all Rephlex material will be going up” in “due course,” according to a note at the bottom of the page.
