Premiere: Hear a Tripped-Out Cut from Jad & The

Brisbane radio-show-come-record-label Beats Of No Nation (BONN) has announced its third release, titled Hollywood by Jad & The (FKA Jad & The Ladyboy).

The label turned heads with its first two releases—XLR8R featured a track from the first release as a free download here—and now returns with a decidedly spaced-out affair from one of its co-founders. Aside from Beats Of No Nation, Jad’s productions and releases have popped up on Sonar Kollektiv, Toy Tonics, Jay Shepheard’s Retrofit, and, most recently, Brisbane-based Centre Source Records.

Getting its name from the obscure samples Jad pulled from a collection of dusty VHS tapes, Hollywood is a raw and cosmic journey into the outer realms of disco-infused house. Alongside the three originals will be a remix from Londoner Deejay Astral, who turns his hand to A1 cut, “Theatrical Trailer.”

Hollywood is set to drop on May 15 via Above Board distribution, with EP cut “Oscar Nom” streaming in full below.

DMX Krew, Onur Ozer, Zendid, Francesco Del Garda, and Many More Confirmed for Nostromo

DMX Krew, Onur Özer, Zendid, Francesco Del Garda, Max Vaahs, and many more names have been confirmed for the debut edition of France’s Nostromo Festival.

Nostromo takes place in on a private site in the middle of nature, in Samazan, in the Lot-et- Garonne area of France. Two stages will be set on four hectares of wooded park, one with a focus on the international scene, while the other will focus on music collectives from all over France. A camp is made available to the participants, more than 40 artists will take part in the adventure, with more soon to be announced. Beyond music, the visual concept of the festival is a blend of different urban cultures, modern art, futuristic architecture, and dream of space exploration; the name of the festival directly refers to the legendary Alien movie spaceship. It is, therefore, in a space and retro-futuristic setting that the participants will be welcomed, with various places to entertain, share as well as rest. Dauwd Announces Debut LP

Dauwd Al Hilali (a.k.a Dauwd) is set to release his debut LP, titled Theory Of Colours.

The US-born, Wales-raised artist has been releasing music for nearly six years on such noted labels as Ghostly International and Kompakt; and his debut album arrives following a few years out of the limelight and in his Berlin studio. Inspiration, according to the label, comes from electronic music legends like Terry Riley, Raymond Scott, and the seminal Radiophonic Workshop period in the late ’50s and ’60s. “It,” continues the label, “draws a unique line between influences as disparate as hazy Detroit house and early German Krautrock.”

Inspiration for the album was found through restriction as Dauwd found creative freedom in limiting his own gear. Spanning a succinct forty minutes across seven tracks, Dauwd’s fondness for delays and love for vintage synthesizers characterize much of the album, which was recorded over the course of a year primarily in an Utrecht studio that houses one of the largest collections of vintage synths and other modular equipment in all of Europe. The result is an “intricate, scintillating journey that hovers between familiar and strange,” the label says.

Max Cooper Preps ‘Chromos’ EP

Max Cooper has a new EP on the way, titled Chromos.

Chromos follows on from his extensive Emergence project and sees the Belfast-born artist continuing to explore the symbiosis of music and science with visual representations of data.

The opening tracks, “Chromos” and “Coils of Living Synthesis,” are beautifully delicate soundscapes of organic life inspired by genetic research undertaken at the Babraham Institute. The former also features an accompanying VR video by long-time collaborator Andy Lomas, the production of which used a simulated model for predicting what DNA looks like inside a cell.

Distant chords and subtle glitches emerge from a hypnotic groove in “Molten Landscapes,” while “Four Tone Reflections” builds a vast sonic spectrum over 12 minutes. For the “Chromos” remix, Cosmin TRG turns the fragility of the original into a warped techno cut.

Mikhail Spivakov, Research Group Leader at the Babraham Institute, spoke on the collaboration:

“As a biologist. I am passionate to find ways to make our science more accessible, to
help people understand what we do and why we do it. It was amazing to see how the project took real data from the lab and turned it into a multidimensional experience which allows people to get more closely acquainted with our DNA, what it does and how it looks, making it almost palpable.”

Tracklisting

01. Chromos
02. Coils of Living Synthesis
03. Molten Landscapes
04. Four Tone Reflections
05. Chromos (Cosmin TRG Mutation)

Chromos EP is scheduled for May 26 release.
