Kypski ‘The Hype (FFF Remix)

Dutch artist Kypski‘s Wreck Fader album dropped via Lowriders Recordings over two years ago. Since then, Kypski has been working on various endeavors, including an online remix project which saw him rework, among others, Mura Masa’s “Love Sick” Lil Kleine & Ronnie Flex’s “Drank & Drugs”—both garnered thousands of views and shares on Facebook and Youtube.

Due to the success of Kypski’s remix project, Lowriders Recordings thought to bring the idea to Wreck Fader and ask a diverse range of Dutch producers to “wreck” the tracks on the album. The remix artists had the opportunity to pick tracks which fit their style, which meant the intensity of the original cuts were taken to a new level, from the deep vibes of SparkUp x Taro to De Likt’s punk-tinged beats.

The aptly titled Wrecked & Packed dropped on March 31 and can be picked up here, with FFF‘s unpredictable floor-shaking remix available as a free download via WeTransfer below.

Premiere: Hear a Deep and Trippy Cut from Forever

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

UK producer Forever will drop his sophomore EP, Hymn, on London-based Coyote Records on April 28.

Forever first popped up on Coyote back in 2015 with his remix of Last Japan’s “Harca,” which dropped via Coyote’s white label series and welcomed him into Coyote’s tight-knit community of affiliated producers. Outside of his Coyote affiliation, Forever is also a key creative member of Leicester-based label and collective Grade 10, which is where his debut EP, Coarse, dropped back in July of last year.

His latest effort, Hymn, was written over an extended period of time—the title track, for example, was produced a few years ago—and, across its four originals, presents Forever’s wide-reaching sound in stunning detail. Looking to every corner of his stylistic map, the EP evidently acts as Forever’s production calling card, from the film-like textures of opener, “Gweilo,” to the bass-heavy snarl of closing cut, “Swamped.”

Alongside the originals, Coyote label mate Chemist—also one-third of Planet Mu trio Silk Road Assassins—features on the EP with a remix of the title track, turning the cut into a chilling 808-driven affair.

Ahead of the April 28 release—which you can pre-order here—you can stream the ritualistic closing cut, “Swamped,” in full via the player below.

Philippe Hallais (a.k.a. Low Jack) Readies LP for Modern Love

Philippe Hallais (a.k.a. Low Jack) will return to Modern Love with his first album under his own given name, An American Hero.

Following Lighthouse Stories, his 2016 label debut as Low Jack, An American Hero is inspired by the sports documentaries mass-produced by US TV channel ESPN and the stories transcribed and amplified by their dramatic recounts. Divided into four sides and eleven tracks, the album will supposedly play out like a Greek tragedy, following the general narrative arc of the aforementioned documentaries: the rise to the top, the betrayal, decline, salvation, come back, and posterity.

Alongside the music, the project will also involve a multi-media website, created by the design studio CCC, that houses 11 short films (one for each track) created by French artist and director Ethan Assouline—you can check out a gallery of screen grabs from the films below.

An American Hero drops on June 9.

Ion Ludwig, Vera, Vril, and More Play Waking Life 2017

Ion Ludwig, Vera, Vril, and many more names have been confirmed for the 2017 debut edition of Waking Life, an adventurous arts and music festival located near the medieval town of Crato, Portugal—one of the most deserted regions in Southern Europe.

The fundamental idea of the festival is to “facilitate a spellbinding environment brought about by co-creation,” the organizers say. Spread over the four-day gathering, “humans and non-humans of all walks of life are invited to take part and (dis)connect, contributing to the celebration.” A page dedicated to getting involved can be found on the festival website, be it performance art, ecological or art installations.

The musical program will be co-curated with Giegling, and Return, Solid-AM’s party arm. The three stages by the lake will be the “perfect setting” to indulge in a broad spectrum of sound, not limited to electronic music only. Some artists will make a second appearance at the festival and perform special ambient or slow live sets on the chill-out stage.Several artists from the Portugese label Shhpuma Records will also represent and celebrate the creative and richly heterogeneous moment in the country’s musical history.
