Lapien Readies Rekids EP

Berlin-based producer Lapien (a recent subject of our Interpretations series) is set to release an atmospheric three-tracker on Radio Slave’s Rekids.

Also known as Metropolis or one half of Artefakt, Nick Lapien’s last three releases have landed on Finale Sessions, Fred P’s Soul People Music and, most recently, two on DVS1’s Mistress Recordings.

Releasing on Rekids, the multi-faceted Dutch artist’s next outing features three cuts with the dusky “A Change Is Gonna Come” initiating the package using infectious hats, subtle sub-bass and an indistinguishable vocal that ebbs subtly in and out of the mix. “As It Is” is the most robust number on the package with its undulating percussion and moody chords taking centre stage, until “Vexed” concludes everything with gloomy pads, shuffling hats and echoing effects.

untold. ‘Nightmare’ (Original Version)

Combining their passion for impactful grooves and sweet melodies, Max Sudhoff and David Wiegand from Germany founded their untold. project in mid 2015. It didn’t take long for many tech-house and techno tracks to come to life, resulting in their first release in June 2016. The three-track Heros EP came out on Hamburg-based label Nobiz Records, the duo’s first attempt to discover different atmospheres and vibes in groove-based electronic music.

“Nightmare” (Original Mix) is one of their newest works, one that is offered as one of today’s XLR8R free downloads. It takes its time to develop a dark and musing ambience, while still maintaining a solid fundament that makes you move. The selective use of percussion as background as well as a melodic element displays a counterpoint to the harmonies being produced by analog synthesizers.

Melodies Reissues Aged In Harmony Rarities

Eglo sub-label Melodies is set to re-release three Aged In Harmony rarities.

Sam Shepherd (a.k.a. Floating Points) established Melodies last year as a means of reissuing his favorite old, rare records. So far, it has put out one record: Taxie’s Rock Don’t Stop.

Next up are a selection of cuts very close to Shepherd’s heart: aside from being extremely difficult to get hold of, Aged In Harmony’s underground disco cut “You’re A Melody” was the inspiration for Shepherd’s former Plastic People event. It was the work of Arnold Moore’s Detroit-based group; an act that only ever released three seven-inch records (all of which will be reissued now).

Steffi and Martyn Announce First Doms & Deykers LP

Doms & Deykers (a.k.a Steffi and Martyn) will release their debut collaborative album, are Evidence from a Good Source, this coming October.

The two Dutch friends and Panorama Bar residents have collaborated before on the two EP’s, namely Fonts for the People and Dedicated to those Who Feel, as well as on a track for Ostgut Ton‘s Zehn compilation.

This album is only the third full-length on Martyn’s 3024 label, following on from Great Lengths by Martyn and Leon Vynehall‘s Music for the Uninvited.

Besides DJ’s and producers, both Steffi and Martyn are also experienced live musicians, and they will play three exclusive album presentations this year, in Paris, Berlin and London, followed by an extended live tour in 2017.

No Regular Play ‘Rebel’

No Regular Play is Gregory Paulus and Nicholas DeBruyn, two Brooklyn-based musicians who produce and play a sound that is distinctly their own. Using keys, trumpets, drum machines, vocals, and various other instruments, Paulus and DeBruyn channel their collective backgrounds into a sound that fuses jazz, Cuban, and classical music with club-based ideals. The duo’s sun-soaked debut album, Endangered Species, was released by Wolf + Lamb back in 2012 and its follow-up, Can’t See You, dropped on Crew Love Records August 5.

Can’t See You was composed in the period following the passing of Paulus’ father in 2012 and deals with themes of loss and maturation. Can’t See You is a more poignant journey than its predecessor, an album drenched in nostalgia and remembrance.

In support of the release, Paulus and DeBruyn have offered up “Rebel” as a free download. The cut kicks off the album and hints at what’s to come, namely deep, drifting beats and haunting melodies. Oskar Offermann Plays LA This Weekend; Shares Track Download and Video

Oskar Offermann will headline a show in LA this coming Saturday.

The party is headed up by Cyclone, an LA-based promoter responsible for the recent bookings of Arapu, iO (Mullen), and Svet, and also Rhythm Rapport, a recently launched promotion crew. Featuring a Danley Sound Labs system, the party will take place at a DTLA location available on RSVP.

Alongside the show announcement, Offermann also announced the closure of his label WHITE, which will shut its doors in September following a final compilation titled Friends & Values.

As a label, WHITE has been responsible for some of the classiest house releases of the past decade. It was responsible for the debut releases from artists such as Edward, Moomin, Nu, Tristen, Johannes Albert, Cleveland, and Oskar himself.

To commemorate the closure, the people behind WHITE have selected five tracks from its label catalog that didn’t get the attention they deserved at the time and will release them for free over the next few weeks as a countdown for the release of their final compilation. First up, Offermann has offered up “So Close,” a cut from his Do Pilots Still Dream Of Flying? LP.

CEE ‘Pilunja’ feat Najwa Mahiaddin & reesh9000

The 264 Cru is a “diverse multicultural collective of DJs, Creatives, and vibes hounds” from Dubai. The crew aims to further Dubai’s cultural development and carve its own space within that scene with forward-thinking events and releases from the label arm, 264 Records. The label focuses on supporting regional and international artists that fit 264 Cru’s aim to “build community, and encourage others to raise the level of music culture and diversity within their own circles and beyond.”

Following on from the label’s inaugural release—Tunisian producer AELI‘s Late Future Calls LP—will be its first EP, CEE’s diversions 01.

CEE is the latest moniker for a multi-talented producer, sound designer, DJ, booking agent, and Red Bull Music Academy affiliate who you may know as one-half of Bass Sekolah, alongside Darren Ashley. CEE resides in the Dusun—a collaborative musical space and eco-resort in the Malaysian jungle that we profiled here—which is also where the EP was produced and recorded.

Like much of CEE’s latest work, diversions 01 is a wildly inventive and beautifully conceived collaborative effort, taking in styles such as footwork and jungle, and featuring a raft of artists including Singaporean Vandetta, Cuban-based Mike Polarny, New York City’s Solomon Dorsey, and Malaysian artist Fook.

Fabric Closes Doors Due to Recent Deaths

London’s fabric nightclub will remain closed this coming weekend following the recent deaths of two 18-year-old men from drug overdoses.

The club revealed the news today by posting the following statement on its website:

“For the past two years fabric has operated without incident but tragically in the past nine weeks two 18-year-old boys have died as a consequence of drug overdoses. In order to understand how this has happened we have agreed with the police and other agencies to suspend our operation whilst we investigate. The club will therefore be closed this weekend.

We will make a further statement next week but in the meantime for anyone who has purchased a ticket for the club this weekend, we have instructed Resident Advisor to refund all ticket purchases.”
