DGTL Festival Shares New Aftermovie

In celebration of the 2016 festival edition and its core art and revolution messages, DGTL has released the official aftermovie of the event that held Amsterdam in its grip during the Easter weekend.

During the video, the organization takes the viewer on a visual tour full of raw and industrial-feel footage, while clearly referring to two key themes of the event: progress and sustainability.

Next up for DGTL is Barcelona, where the organization will be hosting its a two-day festival at Parc del Fòrum, from August 12-14, bringing along an innovative lineup containing DGTL favorites as well as new and unexpected acts from the house and techno realm.

Sacred Ground Festival Returns

After a magical first edition in 2015 with the likes of David August, Dauwd and Dream Koala, Sacred Ground Festival will return to the 100-year old farm in north Germany’s Uckermark from July 29-31.

While remaining true to its intimate character with a very limited capacity, high quality food and drinks from the direct vicinity, and a hand-crafted scenery by international artists and architects, the festival program is extended to a whole weekend, starting from Friday afternoon to Sunday noon.

This year’s edition will also see an additional indoor stage, opening it’s airy halls on both nights after the main stage to boundlessly dance into the morning and hosting a strong cast of DJs and live acts.

Another improvement will be the extended shuttle service to and from the nearest trainstation Prenzlau from where you can catch direct trains to Berlin about every hour.

RY X & Frank Wiedemann are again handpicking an international cast of musicians and DJs to perform at the event. This year’s initial lineup includes the following, with more scheduled to be announced soon.

Mathew Jonson [live]
Lead Cobblestone Jazzer and top six of the world’s best live acts as voted by Resident Advisor, Mathew Jonson will be headlining Sacred Ground with one of his legendary live sessions.

Howling
The two curators’ joint project will be a central part of the program.

Alice Phoebe Lou
After selling out shows all over the world, Alice Phoebe Lou will make her way to Sacred Ground with her Kyson-produced album and a brand new band setup.

RY X
Sacred Ground will be host of his rare festival appearance showcasing RY X’s much-anticipated debut album.

BEA1991
Hailing from Amsterdam, the mysterious BEA1991 got heads turning from The Guardian to Dev Hynes (a.k.a Blood Orange).

Ryan Vail
The Irish composer has performed alongside an impressive range of artists including Jamie XX, Jon Hopkins, Tycho, Todd Terje and Nils Frahm. The latter also hand-picked him to contribute a song to his carefully curated Piano Day compilation. Sacred Ground will be among his first German appearances ever.

Josin
The delicate and absorbing sound of this emerging singer will not be a secret for long.

Stream a New EP from Velour Modular [Produced by Phon.o]

The latest addition to the CR2 Underground family is the French visual artist and singer/songwriter Guilhem (a.k.a Velour Modular). After bursting onto the scene in 2014 with her Capsule EP, Guilhem has since teamed up with the highly-regarded German producer Phon.o (50 Weapons/Monkeytown/Bpitch Control) for her latest two-track single titled Turpentine.

The EP, which is to be the first of a two-part release, is a brooding and cavernous display of sound that sticks within the boundaries of Phon.o’s signature sound with an additional contemplative and emotional element caused by Guilhem’s spacious vocals and bona fide lyrics.

L-Vis 1990 and Egyptrixx Announce Collaborative EP

James Connolly (a.k.a. L-Vis 1990) and David Psutka (a.k.a. Egyptrixx) have shared details of their first EP together, which will be released via Halocline Trance on June 3.

Psutka has previously released two EPs on Connolly’s Night Slugs imprint (which he runs alongside Bok Bok), though the pair have never worked together on their own music. They are now collaborating as Limit, with a self-titled EP on Halocline Trance. The label describes the pairing as channeling “propulsive, ecstatic sound,” which has resulted in seven noisy, rave-influenced techno cuts.

Limit is scheduled for release on June 3. Check out one of the cuts from the EP below.

Raster-Noton Announces European Showcases

Raster-Noton, the experimental label launched by Olaf Bender (a.k.a. Byetone), Carsten Nicolai (a.k.a. Alva Noto) and Frank Bretschneider back in 1996, has revealed details of its upcoming 20th anniversary showcases.

The series opens at Berghain on April 29, with live performances by the likes of Kangding Ray, Alva Noto, Atom™, Byetone, and Dasha Rush. The event runs in tandem with the White Circle audio-visual installation, which is set to precede the club night, in the Halle am Berghain (also being held as an individual exhibition on April 28 and 30).

From Berlin, the showcases travel to Tbilisi’s Sou Festival, Barcelona’s Sonar Festival, and Dekmantel Festival in Amsterdam, before moving on to Bochum and Rome. More locations will be added soon. The label is also marking the occasion with a special edition book.

Oost Opens its Doors

A new venue called Oost has opened in Groningen, a city in the Northern corner of the Netherlands.

The venue’s opening weekend took place on April 1-2, and featured performances by Space Dimension Controller and DJ Rolando amongst others. Since, they have hosted Sunil Sharpe and Beesmunt Soundsystem.

According to a post by Resident Advisor, the club’s promotion policy will run slightly unusually, and not release Saturday lineups until a few days before each event. So far, we know that Bambounou is booked in for this Friday, and that Homopatik resident Mr. Ties will play on Friday April 26.

Damian Schwartz “Trophic Cascade”

Spanish DJ and producer Damian Schwartz is to release a new album entitled The Dancing Behavior. The nine-track affair is the natural next step after three essential 12”s on his own A Harmless Deed label since 2012.

Though inspired by house and techno greats from the usual American hotbeds, he also puts to use his own formal background in jazz, composition and bass whenever producing electronic music. In fact, composition is vital to him, and he admits, “I always start with a melody that later defines the track’s progression, even if the melody itself is not exactly present to start with.”

Ahead of his album release on April 25, Damian Schwartz has graciously offered up the album cut “Trophic Cascade” as today’s XLR8R download. Creating an aura of repose and exploration, the track’s numerous busy synths climb their way across the latent outer-space vibe before introducing a polished bassline and a scintillating drum pattern.

Andy Stott Shares New Track from Upcoming Album

In advance of the April 22 release of Too Many Voices, his fourth studio LP, Andy Stott has shared a new track from the album, entitled “Selfish,” featuring the dystopian vocal stylings of oft-collaborator, Alison Skidmore.

Too Many Voices is the follow-up to 2014’’s Faith in Strangers. It was recorded over the last 18 months and sees a diverse spectrum of influences bleed into nine tracks that are as searching as they are memorable.
