Virginia chats to Bruce Tantum about her XLR8R podcast.

Virginia is far from a neophyte—among other things, she released an LP of sultry, low-key pop, Twisted Mind, way back in 2008. She’s also a rapidly ascendant producer; her latest release, the Ostgut Ton label’s My Fantasy,show’s her to be an artist who understands the power of subtle dynamics and melodies. (An album is in the works for a 2016 release.) But most of all, Virginia has become known a superlative DJ—she has the imprimatur of no less than Panorama Bar, where she’s a resident—with a sound that pays homage to dance music’s past while being utterly of the moment.

Lakker Announces Upcoming Debut LP for R&S

Following two EPs for R&S over the past 12 months (and a few solo efforts in between), Irish production pair Lakker has announced plans to return to the label to issue its debut full-length, Tundra, this spring. The 10-track LP will find the pair of Ian McDonnell (a.k.a. Eomac) and Dara Smith (a.k.a. Arad) repurposing the title track from one of its previous R&S EPs (Mountain Divide), while continuing to craft productions that meld together both synthetic and organic sound sources, with “field recordings from motorway tunnels in Japan, church bells from Schöneberg, a female choir from Dublin, and Inuit throat singers,” all said to be found amongst the record’s full-bodied techno excursions.

Set to arrive on May 12 via R&S, the artwork and tracklist for Lakker’s Tundra LP can be found below, where a stream of previously released album cut “Mountain Divide” has also been included.

Function to Deliver Berghain 07 Mix Album

After converting formats to a free digital mix album series (instead of the traditional CD) with Ryan Elliot’s Berghain 06 contribution last year, Ostgut Ton‘s Berghain mix series is set to return in May with Dave Sumner (a.k.a. Function) at its helm. Sumner’s monthly Berghain residency (and, according to a press release, “particularly his extended closing set in February 2015”) and recent tour dates are said to have had a significant influence on the upcoming mix album, which will include exclusive tracks from the likes of DVS1, L.B. Dub Corp, Cassegrain & Tin Man, and Inland (with whom Sumner co-runs the Infrastructure New York label), among others. Furthermore, Sumner is said to have made use of Rane’s new MP2015 Rotary Mixer during the course of putting the collection together, which “has played a crucial role in [the mix’s] overall sound.”

While no tracklist has been shared for Function’s Berghain 07 mix as of yet, the details of its accompanying EPs of exclusive material have been shared, with both records’ respective artwork and tracklists having been included below; both EPs and the full Berghain 07 mix album are slated to arrive on May 18.

Squarepusher Shares New Track from Upcoming Damogen Furies LP

Set to drop late next month, a new single from Squarepusher‘s forthcomingDamogen Furies LP has surfaced. A characteristically multi-layered and restless electronic production, “Stor Eiglass” is set to serve as the opening cut on the longtime Warp producer’s latest full-length effort, which—according to Squarepusher himself—will explore “the hallucinatory, the nightmarish, and the brutally visceral capacities of electronic music.”

Serving as the latest taste of what’s to come on Damogen Furies, “Stor Eiglass” can be streamed in full below before Squarepusher’s new LP arrives on April 21 via Warp.

Premiere: Hear the B-Side Cut from Geeneus’ Upcoming 12″ for Rinse

After revealing plans to issue his first solo release in six years last month, seasoned UK producer and Rinse co-founder Geeneus has shared a full stream of the b-side cut from his forthcoming 12″. Set to accompany the record’s rolling a-side, “Ele,” is “Red Velvet,” a sleek club track which briskly moves across its five-minute run, lacing its hi-hat-heavy strut with ravey stabs and a stream of space-age synthlines and matching FX. The full “Red Velvet” production can be streamed below before Geeneus’ new 12″ arrives via Rinse on March 30.

Recondite Preps New 12″ for Life & Death

Bavarian producer Recondite and Italian label Life & Death seem such a natural match for each other that it’s pretty surprising that they have not worked together before. All that is set to change in April though, when Life & Death will drop a two-track 12″ by the German artist, entitled Think Twice, that’ll doubtless find Recondite turning out more of the humming, beautifully crafted techno with which he has become synonymous. No audio previews are currently available, but the artwork and tracklist for the upcoming record can be found below ahead of its April 20 release date. (via Resident Advisor)

LTD Colours “In Between”

Hailing from Milan, Italy, the LTD Colours pair are responsible for the next release in the Infinite Machine label’s fast-growing catalog. The outfit’s upcoming In Between EP is set to take shape as a five-track affair chocked full of heavy-handed club hybrids, with the upcoming record’s title track seeing LTD Colours flex its 130-bpm jungle muscles. Fortunately, that is territory where the pair sounds more than comfortable, splicing chopped breaks, biting percussion, and what sounds like the banging of massive metals sheets between the production’s spacey chords and tasteful sample chops. Out on March 23, LTD Colours’ In Between EP can be previewed using the player below, where the forthcoming record’s title cut can also be grabbed as a free download.

In conjunction with with The Hype Machine, the UK label has let loose a full stream of the LP ahead of its March 23 release. A frequently beautiful nine tracks of warped, refracted pop, Jam City’s new album can heard in its entirety using the player below.

Houndstooth Preps New EP from Marquis Hawkes; Stream a Track Now

After debuting on the label in September of last year with the Fifty Fathoms Deep EP, Marquis Hawkes is set to return to the Houndstooth fold with Raw Materials, a three-track EP focused on “primitive house rhythms.” The Berlin-based producer—and former XLR8R podcast contributor—is said to have been heavily influenced by the sounds of house originators such as Ron Hardy, Gene Hunt, and Roy Davis Jr. on his new EP, resulting in a record keenly focused on the dancefloor with its rhythms front and center.

Such is the case with “‘Ave That,” the percussive, FX-streaked EP cut which serves as our first taste of Raw Materials. Ahead of the EP’s official release on April 27, “‘Ave That” can be streamed in full below, while the rest of Hawkes’ forthcoming effort can be previewed here.

Love Business “Your Love Is Like the Ocean (Uffe Edit)”

According to our sources, Love Business was a short-lived disco project that operated in the city of Copenhagen from 1978 to 1980, and released only one single, “Your Love Is Like the Ocean.” As luck would have it, Amsterdam-based Danish producer Uffe Christensen (or simply Uffe, pictured above) was able—through a complicated string of connections—to get his hands on the original tape for the instrumental version of “Your Love Is Like the Ocean,” and like any good producer would do, he’s made an edit of the lost single and—best yet—presented it here for free download. A cosmic disco excursion, the edit presents the single’s original elements in a loose, almost jumbled form, as laid-back percussion and hesitant claps keep the beat atop twirling keys, crisp guitar strums, and some intoxicatingly active basslines. Set to eventually see a vinyl release, the digital version of Uffe’s “Your Love Is Like the Ocean” can be grabbed below before the producer’s debut long-player, Radio Days, lands on March 23 via Tartelet (that record is available to preview here).
