Xosar, Lando, Aybee, and More Feature on Upcoming Compilation from Bad Animal

Berlin label Bad Animal will issue the second installment of its Feral Cuts compilation series next month, with the four-track collection set to focus on formerly Bay Area-based artists currently residing in the German capital. Contributing one track each to the compilation will be former Oakland resident and head of the Deepblack label Aybee (operating under the alias Prof. Delacroix), burgeoning producer/DJ Jamaica Suk, Lando (formerly Lando Kal), and prolific hardware expert Xosar (pictured above). Set to see a release on April 20, the artwork and complete tracklist for Bad Animal’s “Bay Area to Berlin” Feral Cuts Vol. 2 EP has been included below.

Leaving Records Announces Upcoming Album from Ahnnu; Hear a Track Now

Matthewdavid’s Leaving imprint will welcome Los Angeles-based artist Leland Jackson (a.k.a. Ahnnu) back to the fold next month with a new 10-track album. Entitled Perception, the record appears to find Jackson further stripping away the traditional rhythmic structures of his past beat-rooted productions in exchange for exploratory ambient compositions, a direction he successfully pushed his craft on his past Leaving effort, 2013’s World Music.

Set to see a limited cassette and digital release on April 7, Ahnnu’s Perception album is preceded by the record’s first single, “The Racer,” a cosmic sonic collage that can be streamed in full below.

Anthony Naples, Gunnar Haslam, Patricia, Karen Gwyer, and More Added to MUTEK 2015

Adding to a bill that already includes the likes of Steffi, Andy Stott, James Holden, Sherwood & Pinch, Session Victim, Rrose, Atom™, and Lucy, Montreal’s MUTEK festival has added a second wave of performers to its 2015 bill. Among the noteworthy names on the new round of announcements are Anthony Naples (who recently issued his debut LP via Four Tet’s Text label, and is pictured above), L.I.E.S. affiliates Gunnar Haslam (a former XLR8R podcast contributor) and Svengalighost, Brooklyn producer Patricia, British sound sculptor Karen Gwyer, and 1080p associates Perfume Advert. Also joining the bill is Opal Tapes label head Stephen Bishop, who will deliver a set under his Basic House moniker during the course of the festival.

The full list of artists set to perform at the upcoming 16th edition of MUTEK can be found here, while a mix by MUTEK programmer Vincent Lemieux incorporating tracks from the festival’s latest additions can be heard below; the five-day MUTEK festival is set to take place in Montreal beginning May 27.

Black Suede “Purgatory”

Over the past year, Stefan Ringer has quietly become one of Atlanta’s most reliable rising producers. Delivering records under his own name as well as his REKchampa moniker for labels such as somethinksounds’ The Love Below offshoot, cassette label Harsh Riddims, and fellow Atlanta producer Kai Alcé’s NDATL imprint last year, Ringer returns this month with the four-track Inner Monologue EP, which finds him operating as Black Suede. Under the guise, Ringer runs his soulful production style through a darker tint, such as on EP closer “Purgatory,” a murky house effort that methodically carves a path through sludgy low-end and noisy loops while leaving enough space in the high-end for some sparse vocals. One of four-tracks included on Inner Monologue (though the record’s digital version does have an additional bonus cut), Black Suede’s “Purgatory” can be grabbed below, where a full stream of the man’s new EP for the Atlanta-based CGI label can also be found.

Surgeon, Blawan, KiNK, and More to Inaugurate Tiptop Imprint

LA-based company Tiptop, who produces modular synth systems, is preparing to launch its own imprint with a compilation of tracks made using analog synthesizers and digital control interfaces. With contributing artists including techno heavyweights and well-known hardware enthusiasts such as Surgeon, Blawan (pictured above), Phase VI (the duo of John Tejada and Drumcell), and KiNK, the forthcoming record is said to represent “a range of artists who, through their tracks, explore the landscape of dance music in a very fresh perspective. These are the artists who inspire the Tiptop team to make more innovative devices, which in turn make new music (a nice feedback loop).”

An official release date for Tiptop’s V.A. 001 is yet to be finalized, but the compilation will initially be released on double vinyl, with a digital version to follow shortly thereafter. Bwana Preps New EP for Aus, Streams Track

Just a few months after debuting on ever-active UK label Aus with the Flute Dreams EP, ascendent producer Bwana has shared details of a follow-up record. Set to arrive early next month, Tengo reportedly casts itself further afield than the Toronto native’s previous outings—the earliest of which fell into the post-dubstep camp—and selectively borrows from trance and progressive house. Totaling three tracks, Tengo sees an official release on April 6 and its title track can be streamed in full below, where a complete tracklist has also been included.

Premiere: Watch a Video for Planet Mu Newcomer Jlin’s “Unknown Tongues”

Planet Mu will release Dark Energy, the debut LP from Gary, Indiana-based producer Jlin, next week. Ahead of the 11-track record’s arrival on March 23, rugged album cut “Unknown Tongues” has received a video treatment. A rush of forceful percussion, finely chopped samples, and precisely aligned rhythmic twists and turns, the video for Jlin’s production focuses on the sweeping movements of Lilian Steiner, who interprets the track’s clattering patterns into movements that seem to land somewhere between modern dance and ritualistic martial art.

Blackhall & Bookless “Differences”

London-by-way-of-Newcastle production/DJ duo Blackhall & Bookless will drop the third effort on their own Jaunt label later this month in the form of Straightener, a five-track EP which includes remixes from Mike Dehnert and Chad. “Differences” is one of two Detroit-tinged original productions the pair plan to include on the record; a coyly soulful affair, “Differences” rides a crunchy house skip while unrolling continuous layers of dubbed chords and atmospheric stabs across its spacious six-minute run. Before Blackhall & Bookless’ new record arrives in vinyl form on March 27 (with a digital release to follow on April 20), the record can be previewed below, where the outfit’s “Differences” production can also be grabbed for free.

Cosmin TRG Readies New EP, Shares Previews

After nearly a year away from the studio, Cosmin TRG returns with duo of modular techno tracks on his on Fizic label. Said to take its cues from “the foreign north” and Japanese futurism, the EP opens with blistering title track “Uzura,” with “Vitriol” on the flip offering churning industrials and twisted acid. The record follows from two previous albums on 50Weapons and a slew of 12″s for Rush Hour and other labels, and will see an official release on April 27. Submerse Reveals Upcoming EP for Project: Mooncircle; Preview It Now

A former XLR8R podcast contributor and prolific remixer, Submerse will return to the Project: Mooncircle imprint with a new EP in May. Having dropped his debut LP, Slow Waves, via the label last year, the forthcoming Stay Home EP sees Submerse return with a new helping of hazy, R&B-streaked beats which also see the producer toying with some footwork-indebted rhythms for the first time. Said to have partially been inspired by the views of urban life visible from the window of Submerse’s ninth-story apartment in the Shibuya neighborhood of Tokyo, Stay Home will offer six new efforts on its vinyl version, while its digital and CD forms will include an additional bonus track.

Set to arrive on May 25, Submerse’s forthcoming EP (his first of 2015) can be previewed below, where the upcoming record’s full tracklist has also been included.
