Recondite, Dixon, and More Enlisted for New Plastikman Remix EP

Last June, techno luminary Richie Hawtin (pictured above) released EX, a new album from his Plastikman alias that had been recorded during a performance at New York’s Guggenheim museum (that record can still be streamed in full here). Now, a remix EP for EX has been released via Mute. Featuring four reworks from Innervisions co-head Dixon, Bavarian producer Recondite, the Tale of Us production pair, and Dubfire, the EX: Club Mixes EP is out today in digital form, with a double-vinyl version of the collection set to arrive in the coming months. Caribou Releases Live Album, Shares New Mix

After putting together a massive playlist of his favorite tracks for a digital mixtape of sorts last week, Caribou has continued to keep himself busy, today dropping a live album from his Caribou Vibration Ensemble (which features Four Tet and James Holden, among others) and sharing a new two-hour mix for BBC Radio 6.

First, the Caribou Vibration Ensemble’s live album captures three extended performances from the group, who stretch Caribou’s “Bowls” and “Sun” compositions out past their original track lengths, while the record’s “Ahmed, Colin, James, Kieran, Kyle, Rob & Steve” cut appears to be a live jam session between the outfit’s players. Recorded live in 2011 (“Bowls” and “Sun” from a performance in Ghent, Belgium; “Ahmed, Colin, James, Kieran, Kyle, Rob & Steve” from a performance in London), Caribou’s CVE Live 2011 album can be streamed in full below; the record is out today in digital form, with a limited number of LP copies also beginning to appear in stores today. Furthermore, taking to his Twitter, Caribou explains that all proceeds from the album’s sales will go to Gendered Intelligence “in memory of our dear friend Julia Brightly.”

In addition to the live album, a new mix from Caribou has surfaced. The two-hour session originally aired on Friday via BBC Radio 6, who describes the mix as “two hours of musical inspirations, old and new” from the artist-born Dan Snaith. The full mix—which also includes an unreleased tune from Snaith’s Daphni project in its run—is available to stream here.

Spire “Dreamy State”

After introducing itself to the world with a free, five-track EP in the fall of last year, fledgling Italian label Random Numbers today issues its latest effort, Healing Loops, the debut EP from Spire. A budding Italian artist, Spire has sent over the ever-evolving “Dreamy State” to serve as a bonus cut to his new four-track EP. At first an exercise in hazy sound design (with a few deep kicks thrown in for good measure), “Dreamy State” slowly builds momentum for its first half before turning a corner just ahead of the three-minute mark, where a momentary rush of broken rhythms are introduced into the otherwise, well, dreamy production Spire has crafted.

New mixes from Mr. G and Marcel Dettmann (pictured above) have been made available to stream and download.

Dutch label Dekmantel has just launched a new podcast series, with the aim of providing an outlet for “exclusive mixes from our favorite friends and freaks.” Berlin-based DJ/producer Dettmann inaugurates the series with a rare recording from his recent set at Berghain’s New Year’s Eve party. The 90-minute section is described as “supple and seductive, then freaky and funky, then deliciously dark and increasingly weird towards the end,” and can be streamed and downloaded below.

Also cropping up today, under the header “Just good house music,” is Mr. G’s entry into the Resident Advisor podcast series. The veteran producer (a.k.a. Colin McBean) has been operating under the Mr. G alias for 15 years, and while he doesn’t DJ too much these days (tending to favor live sets instead), this latest RA mix is said to find him playing up the qualities found throughout his own catalog: “groovy, soulful, and timeless.” No tracklist is on offer, but the mix can be downloaded here.

Premiere: Stream Roland Tings’ Debut LP

Melbourne’s Roland Tings will issue the first full-length collection of his glowing house productions next week via Norwegian disco don Prins Thomas’ Internasjonal imprint. Ahead of its release, the burgeoning Australian talent’s self-titled debut LP is now streaming in full on XLR8R.

A producer we recently highlighted as an artist to watch in 2015, Roland Tings (real name Rohan Newman) had previously delivered EPs for Amanda Brown’s 100% Silk label and Club Mod (the dance arm of Australia’s Modular imprint), before landing two efforts on Internasjonal last year. Combining a number of cuts from his existing records for the label with a suite of new productions, Newman’s debut album weaves its way through 10 tracks wrapped in array of cosmic synthscapes, glossy chords, and infectiously bubbly melodies.

Officially out on January 26, Roland Tings’ self-titled debut album can be heard in its entirety using the player below.

Donato Dozzy Readies New Album with Vocalist Anna Caragnano

Donato Dozzy‘s next offering will take the form of a collaborative album with Rome-based singer Anna Caragnano. Set for release via Spectrum Spools, the nine tracks on Sintetizzatrice are comprised entirely of Caragnano’s layered and treated vocals, with no additional instrumentation. The album is said to encompass R&B, Kosmische, and Fluxus styles alongside traditional chamber choir, with “Festa (A Mottola)” described as an homage to the folk music found in the rural region where both Dozzy and Caragnano were born and raised.

“The album came because of the input of my mentor and teacher, Paolo Micioni,” Dozzy told Resident Advisor. “He called me one day in January 2014, reminding how he has been following me for a while now, being proud, yes, but also pointing on the evidence that something was missing in my career. It was time to deal with the voice. And then he introduced me to Anna Caragnano, saying she was the right person for me. Anna is such a curious, simple and naturally talented person. The recording sessions were really inspired and we found our own way pretty quickly.”

Sintetizzatrice will see an official release on March 30, and until then, album cut “Starcloud” can be heard below, where we’ve also posted a complete tracklist.

The Lowdown: This Week’s XLR8R Top 10 with Kowton, Caribou, FKA Twigs, and More

Throughout the week, a whole lot of material gets posted here on XLR8R. 1. This week’s XLR8R podcast was assembled by UK bass manipulator Kowton (pictured above), who delivered an hour-long session stuffed with unreleased tunes.

2. Caribou surprised his fans with a special “thank you” gift: an enormous mixtape of his favorite tunes that he’s titled The Longest Mixtape: 1000 Songs for You.

7. Hessle Audio co-founder Pearson Sound announced the upcoming release of his first full-length album, and a stream of one of its tracks appeared online after debuting on Benji B’s BBC Radio 1 program.

8. Next week, UK producer Untold will be kicking off his new Hemlock Black imprint with a new 12″, and its two tracks are currently streaming online.

9. The ever-active Four Tet announced that he had compiled all of his 12″ releases as Percussions into an album, which is available via his own Text label.

10. Prefuse 73 shared his plans for 2015, which include two new EPs and an LP, all of which will be issued in the months ahead.

Listen to a New Mix from Egyptrixx

With Egyptrixx‘s upcoming third LP set to inaugurate the producer’s Halocline Trance label early next month, the Toronto-based artist has turned in a new three-hour mix. The largely beatless affair is the latest installment in The Fader‘s mix series, and—according to Egyptrixx himself—is fashioned from “a collection of fun sounds/ideas that somehow ended up on the new album. Lots of stretched out and dissected structural ideas; lots of unique textures and lots of sparse, weird arrangements.” He goes on to explain that he had “been listening to early industrial/power electronics, stuff like Ramleh, Genocide Organ, and Anenzephalia,” during the course of making his new record, influences that are all reflected in the course of the artist’s latest recorded mix.

Aardvarck Drops New 12″ via Voyage Direct; Hear It Now

A longstanding Dutch producer/DJ with a discography that reaches back over two decades, Mike Kivits (a.k.a. Aardvarck) has been tapped to deliver the latest 12″ for Tom Trago‘s Voyage Direct outpost. The new record is said to find Kivits returning to a type of chunky (and sample-based) techno sound he’s explored many times before, with the label describing the new 12″ as an effort built around “surging rhythms, vintage synthesizers, alien electronics, and the distinctive shuffle of original analog drum machines.” Out now via Voyage Direct, Aardvarck’s Thankxxx Joch 12″ can be streamed in full below.

Stream Another Track from Anthony Naples’ Upcoming LP

As we reported in December, newly Berlin-based producer Anthony Naples is set to release his debut long-player, Body Pill, in February via Four Tet’s Text imprint. With that initial news came a stream of the album’s lead single, “Refugio,” and as Body Pill‘s release date draws nearer, Naples has now shared a full stream of another LP track, “Abrazo.” A melodic, almost orchestral blend of brittle strings, keys, and clipped percussion, “Abrazo” can be heard in its entirety via the player below before Naples’ full debut album sees its official release via Text on February 17.
