FAY “Coda”

Unorthodox LA artist FAY (a.k.a. Fay Davis-Jeffers) has returned with the release of her new Deathwatch LP, offering up abstract tune “Coda” to our Downloads feed. The genre-ambiguous tune is essentially a soundscape texturized by unidentifiable bits of audio that meander autonomously in a wholly unpredictable manner. Groaning, brassy machines swiftly overlap and interlace with the primitive sounds of hammering, erratically plucked strings, hand-slapped drums, and an avalanche of falling droplets. FAY’s new Deathwatch LP, which is said to find her “editing and stitching sounds together visually without the help of sequencers or even a grid,” can be streamed in full after the jump.

Throwing Snow Announces Debut Solo LP for Houndstooth, Shares New Video

UK producer Ross Tones is a machine. Not only does he maintain a slew of side projects, including Snow Ghosts, Vellico, and Alight, but his primary endeavor as Throwing Snow also continues to be quite active. Just last week, Tones dropped the Pathfinder EP for Houndstooth, and now, he’s shared the details of a full-length follow-up. The 11-track LP is called Mosaic, and it’s set to appear via Houndstooth on June 3. The title is said to “truly sum up the entire album, combining different influences from instruments and equipment rather than styles and musicians to form a coherent whole with varying sounds of production distilled into something cohesive.” Tones himself adds, “It’s little pieces of the music I love combined to form a coherent whole. Elements of folk and real instruments combined with drum funk, electronica and samples.”

Along with the album details—the artwork and tracklist are below—Tones has also elected to share a new video for “The Tempest,” a cut featuring fellow Red Bull Music Academy participant Adda Kaleh which kicked off the Pathfinder EP and will also appear on the new album. Director Rick Robin says that the kaleidoscopic clip depicts “a galaxy from the past, 367 light years ago. It’s about war and peace. Evolving and never-ending.” To our eyes, it’s full of trippy visuals and what looks like a series of angelic figures. The video can also be viewed below.

Vladislav Delay and Twwth Collaborate on Forthcoming 12″

The fourth record from Sasu Ripatti’s eponymous label will find the Finnish producer operating under his Vladislav Delay moniker for a new collaboration with Signal Life boss Twwth (formerly known as Teeth). The forthcoming vinyl-only release is said to contain two tracks that represent some of the “most forward, rugged gear in either [producer ‘s] arsenal,” with a-side “#52” described as a “strobing, hyper-kinetic realignment of Chicago Footwork.” Appearing on the flip, the equally simply titled “#3” features “percolating skittish hi-hats and hydraulic subs,” which is said to make for “proper next-level grooves from the cold, cold north.” Marking Vladislav Delay’s and Twwth’s first collaborative release together, Ripatti04 will see an official release on April 28.

Cool World “Chilly (Instrumental Version)”

Cool World is the new collaborative endeavor between LA boogie maestro Benedek and retro-pop outfit Rare Times. When working together, Cool World concerns itself with the smoother and, well, cooler ends of ’80s-indebted electronic pop. “Chilly” is one such offering, and in its instrumental form, the track’s immense network of neon-glowing synths makes itself even more present. There are bell chords, airy choirs, and, of course, an abundance of sidewinding leads to be heard atop Cool World’s crisp, laid-back beat. “Chilly”—in both its original and instrumental form—will be found on Cool World’s upcoming self-titled EP when it drops on April 8 via Feel So Real.

Lone Details Upcoming LP for R&S, Shares New Single

After teasing its existence late last month, Lone has now revealed the full details of his forthcoming Reality Testing LP, sharing a new, hip-hop-minded single to coincide with the news. Lone’s next full-length will see its official release on June 16 via R&S, offering 12 tracks that take synth-soaked adventures through house, techno, and instrumental hip-hop.

“I was listening to a lot of Detroit techno and old Chicago house that had the same grain and dirtiness to it as a lot of the hip hop I was listening to,” the artist born Matt Cutler explains in a press release. “That was the real spark—I wanted to make an album that had both hip-hop and house beats, but that weren’t completely different from each other,” he continues. “I love the idea of two things sat side by side, but instead of it seeming like they’re complete opposites, those two things could almost be the same thing.”

Before Lone’s Reality Testing sees its full release, the LP’s complete tracklist is included below along with a full stream of the album’s first single, “2 is 8.”

1. First Born Seconds
2. Restless City
3. Meeker Warm Energy

5. 2 is 8
6. Airglow Fires
7. Coincidences
8. Begin To Begin
