For those who have ever wondered what their favorite electronic productions might smell like (because, yeah, who hasn’t?), Unsound Festival will soon be merging the worlds of scent and sound in a forthcoming art installation set to premiere at this year’s event series in New York. Called Ephemera, the project will find Berlin-based olfactory artist Geza Schoen (who is said to be known for his “groundbreaking Escentric Molecules series, as well as various avant-garde/conceptual scents”) collaborating with noisemakers Tim Hecker, Kode9 (pictured above), and Ben Frost on three special aromas. The producers will create the “raw sonic material” that will be reinterpreted by Schoen into the Noise, Drone, and Bass perfumes—with each piece of audio handled by Frost, Hecker, and Kode9, respectively. The results of the sounds and smells will be paired with visual components created by Londoner Manuel Sepulveda and Berlin’s Marcel Weber, whose work will include “video and silk-screened materials that reveal different elements as the light shifts.”

Veteran London production duo Plaid has once again emerged from dormancy to announce its seventh proper studio album (or its tenth full-length record, if we’re counting soundtrack work) for the equally venerable electronic music institution Warp. The nine-track Reachy Prints is set to arrive on May 20, nearly three years after Andy Turner’s and Ed Handley’s previous album, Scintilli, and is said to sound something like “a journey into a subterranean world,” while also maintaining the duo’s “trademark emotive, yet playful, signature style.” Before Plaid’s latest LP arrives in late spring, we’re treated to a stream of its lead single, the highly melodic electronic composition “Hawkmoth.” That song can be heard below, where the artwork and tracklist for Reachy Prints is also included.

Veteran producers Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma, the two German artists who have made music as Mouse on Mars since 1993 (resulting in an astounding discography which we interviewed the two innovators about a couple years back), celebrate over two decades of their shapeshifting electronic music project this year. Following its most recent release in January, the Spezmodia mini-album for Modeselektor’s Monkeytown label, the duo now has plans to ring in its 21st year with a documentary film called 21 Again, and they need your help to finishing making it.

Mouse on Mars has launched a fundraising campaign over on Indiegogo, where the team of German filmmakers at Kaliber16 is looking for support to finish the film’s “in-depth editing process and post-production,” “clear some rights for rare TV footage, like the first ever Mouse on Mars concert,” and film interviews with the likes of Matthew Herbert, Tyondai Braxton, Mark E. Smith, Tortoise, Stereolab, Markus Popp, and many others. Each contribution will receive perks which range from a special postcard from Mouse Mars, to a free download of the finished film, to signed CDs and LPs, festival tickets, production credits, and beyond. Since debuting early last year, New York’s Fifth Wall label has rapidly made a name for itself with strong-armed releases from label heads Hound Scales and Divvorce, Scottish duo Clouds, Physical Therapy, and others. Now, it’s using the community of producers it has built for a greater good, releasing a 13-track compilation the proceeds from which will go to help fund two organizations working to prevent malaria deaths around the world. Entitled No Person Is an Island, the digital compilation gathers exclusive tracks from an impressive list of budding techno technicians for the price of $10, a cost that is essentially the price of a net which can help prevent an entire family from contracting malaria.

The two Amsterdam-based DJ/producers of Juju & Jordash are the latest subject of Resident Advisor‘s Three Cuts video series, inviting viewers into their home studio as they highlight three exemplary productions from their career so far. Covering an “Early Cut,” “Choice Cut,” and “Fresh Cut” from Juju & Jordash’s catalog, the two Israeli-born artists use the tracks as jumping-off points to discuss their early goals and how their craft has evolved over the years, eventually diving into the conflicted state of their home country. It seems that LA-based producer and former XLR8R podcast contributor Delroy Edwards is a fan of surprise releases. A few weeks ago, he suddenly issued an eight-track 12″ of “no wave” productions, and today, he’s followed it up with a new record—and a new alias—for his own L.A. Club Resource label. Apparently, the DJ Punisher project is meant to focus on the noisier side of the noise-techno spectrum, and its debut offering is a vinyl-only, four-track 12″ where all the songs are untitled. The artwork is above, and some of the record’s sounds can be heard in the promo video we’ve posted below. Additional song clips can be found at Rush Hour and Genes Liquor, both of which have the 12″ for sale.

After revealing its initial line-up—which included Nicolass Jaar, Audion, Shackleton, Voices from the Lake, and more—and detailing its partnership with fellow Montreal digital arts festival Elektra last month, MUTEK has just announced the second wave of artists slated to performer at the Candian festival’s 15th anniversary this spring. Dubbed EM15, the upcoming six-day event has added techno luminaries Richie Hawtin and Ricardo Villalobos to the bill, along with veteran Dutch producer Tom Trago (pictured above), Items & Things co-head Marc Houle, and Swedish hardware fanatic Andreas Tilliander, who will perform live under his TM404 moniker. In addition to laying down a DJ set during the festivities, Villalobos will also present a collaboration alongside Moritz Von Oswald Trio member Max Loderbauer, in which the pair will reimagine works from the ECM label’s catalog as a “space-conscious improvisation.”
