Last summer, Jordan GCZ (a.k.a. Jordan Czamanski), better known as one half of Juju & Jordash, launched his own imprint, Off Minor Recordings, with a much-lauded solo effort called “Crybaby J.” Since then, the young label has continued its hot start by issuing a collection of archival material from deep house specialist Move D and a new 12″ from Magic Mountain High, which is of course a collaborative project between Juju & Jordash and Move D. Now, it appears that the Off Minor family is growing once again, as Maxmillion Dunbar (a.k.a. Andrew Field-Pickering), who also serves as one half of Beautiful Swimmers and helps run the excellent Future Times label, has been brought into the fray. More specifically, Dunbar (who has elected to use his Max D alias for this project) has teamed up with Jordan GCZ to form Zsa Gang.

The duo will release its debut EP, Beehive Rhythms, within the next few weeks. Adding to the intrigue, the four-track effort (artwork above) finds Juju (yes, the other half of Juju & Jordash) contributing to two songs. The first cut also includes a mysterious producer who goes by the name Pissflaps. All four of the EP’s tunes are essentially untitled, as they’ve simply been dubbed “A1,” “A2,” “B1,” and “B2.” However, those looking for more details will be pleased to know that Off Minor has released a preview video for Beehive Rhythms, which we’ve posted below.

Hotly tipped Brooklyn-based producer Arca is still riding high off the release of his formidable &&&&& mixtape, a genre-smashing musical statement which he also dropped on limited-edition vinyl, as well as production credits with the likes of FKA Twigs and Kanye West. Late last year, he followed up that streak of quality work with an A/V exhibit at New York’s MOMA PS1, featuring a collaborative film created with London artist Jesse Kanda. Called TRAUMA, the piece is said to present “a nonlinear narrative about the death of a salaryman and a drunk driving infant, and takes place within a subconscious world,” with Arca providing the uncanny soundtrack. The film’s two creators have announced that they’ll be showing their work in galleries around the world throughout 2014, but have preempted those exhibits by sharing the first scene of TRAUMA online.

As the video’s description states, the clip features “a trio of disfigured children locked in synchronized dance, celebrating their inner and outer beauty in the limelight,” all of which is done while the crushing “Knot” from Arca’s &&&&& sets the foreboding tone. The video—which could very well owe a thing or two to Chris Cunningham’s penchant for disfigured bodies and unnerving soundscapes—can be watched in full in the player below.

Today marks the arrival of the latest release from Body High co-owner Samo Sound Boy, the two-track Open/Divine EP, both sides of which we’ve already heard. (Incidentally, the record also happens to be Body High’s first ever vinyl release.) To help celebrate the occasion, London-based DJ/producer Motions (pictured above)—half of the defunct Grown Folk duo, and an artist who we recently introduced to the XLR8R faithful with a free download of his gliding house tune “To the Sea”—has dropped a remix of the a-side cut from Samo Sound Boy’s new 12”. The synth-soaked “Open (Motions Remix)” also comes with another announcement: Motions has been named as the latest artist signed to the growing Body High roster, and will issue his first solo release, the four-track All Gone EP, on digital and vinyl formats in late April. While we wait to hear exactly what that record will bring next month, the remix of Samo Sound Boy’s “Open” single can be streamed and downloaded for free in the player below.

There has plenty of talk about a grime “revival” during the past year or so, but London duo Elijah & Skilliam began breathing life back into the genre well before it became fashionable again. Between their Butterz label and much-loved show on Rinse FM, the pair built its name by championing a neon-streaked, raved-up variant of grime. Given that the two have now been enlisted to put together the next edition of the long-running Fabriclive mix series, it’s fair to say that their efforts have taken root. Fabriclive 75 is scheduled for release on May 19, and is described as “something that is current, but not necessarily based on the big tracks of recent times.” Looking over the tracklist, it’s certainly a diverse effort, which is likely why Fabric also notes that, “with less than a third of the tracks at the typical 140bpm grime tempo, the mix showcases just how wide [Elijah & Skilliam’s] sets can go without diluting their identity and their sound.” Even the artists themselves recognize that the mix is something a bit different than people might expect, saying, “The mix doesn’t necessarily represent how we would play in the club, but it does feature many of the people that you would hear and see playing at a Butterz night at Fabric.” The Fabriclive 75 artwork and complete tracklist are below.

World-renowned Glaswegian DJ and Numbers co-founder Jackmaster delivered the latest installment of BBC Radio 1‘s ongoing Essential Mix series just this past weekend, and that nearly two-hour session is now available to stream in full online. Said to be crafted with two Pioneer CDJ 2000 Nexus, one Technics 1210, one Allen & Heath DB2, and 10 Cans of Tennents Lager, the 34-track DJ set boasts a large swath of house and techno music from the likes of Moodyman, Daft Punk, DJ Sprinkles, Tyree Cooper, Matias Aguayo, Simian Mobile Disco & Roman Flügel, Doc Daneeka, Legowelt, Nitzer Ebb, Bok Bok & Tom Trago, and many more. The entirety of Jackmaster’s Essential Mix can be heard here.

In addition to the new mix, Jackmaster also has a string of upcoming tour dates around the world between now and September. The full list of those appearances is available over on the DJ’s new website, here.

Last year, Bay Area producers and frequent collaborators Vin Sol and Matrixxman made a splash with a white-label 12″ that, ironically enough, their names didn’t even appear on. The record in question included house reworks of two tracks by iconic UK singer Sade (“Couldn’t Love You More” and “Give It Up”) and quickly garnered support from a wide variety of DJs. Having struck such a strong chord, it’s not much of a surprise that Vin Sol and Matrixxman have put together a follow-up effort (artwork above), which is set to appear this week. This time around, the vinyl will include retooled versions of Sade’s “Never Thought” and “Love Is Stronger.” The record is scheduled to drop on March 20, and can be ordered through Phonica, which also has preview clips available. Based on those snippets, it seems that “Love Is Stronger” follows in the same relaxed vein as the first 12″, but “Never Thought” finds the two producers combining Sade’s sultry pipes with a muscular bassline and some acid house flirtations.
