In 1998, Detroit techno pioneer Jeff Mills delivered what was the first-ever lecture at the Red Bull Music Academy. Today, the roughly 15-year-old discussion has made its way onto the web and can now be watched in full. Spanning 70 minutes, Mills’ lecture finds the then roughly 35-year-old DJ discussing how he learned the craft of mixing, his life on the road, the origins of Underground Resistance, and much more before taking questions from the audience.

Admittedly, it has been quite some time since we last heard from veteran beatmaker Alias—almost three years, actually, when he delivered his XLR8R podcast ahead of his 2011 LP Fever Dream—but the artist born Brendon Whitney has officially returned, bringing news of his next full-length effort for Anticon and giving away an EP of all new productions. First things first: On May 27, Alias will release his ninth album, Pitch Black Prism, the full details of which we hope to have sooner than later. But before then, the East Coast artist has sent over the four brand-new tracks on his Indiiggo EP to give us an idea of his current musical headspace, as the title track is also Pitch Black Prism‘s lead single. Whitney appears to be working with densely layered electronic beats for the most part, lacing his productions with a mangled, forward-looking pop sensibility. The entirety of Alias’ Indiiggo EP can be streamed and downloaded for free below, ahead of the arrival of Pitch Black Prism.

This past weekend, London’s Just Jam party soildered on after it was forced to move its enviable lineup—which included Omar Souleyman, Loefah, Mount Kimbie, RP Boo, and secret special guest SOPHIE—from the Barbican Centre over to a small club on Brick Lane. Now, full sets from Just Jam’s most recent get-down have officially hit the web, with videos from Loefah & Chunky, RP Boo & Lightbulb, Omar Souleyman (pictured above), and a DJ set from Mount Kimbie member Dominic Maker now available to watch in full.

Although it appeared on the web for a short period earlier this week, the set from enigmatic UK talent SOPHIE has not made it back online yet. Still, there are plenty of Just Jam sets to take in before that video surfaces, our favorites of which we’ve included below. Furthermore, the next Just Jam session, going down on March 19, is set to feature Four Tet, Daphni (a.k.a. Caribou), and Pearson Sound; more details can be found here.

After sharing the lead single and details from his upcoming We Got a Love LP, DFA stalwart Shit Robot has unveiled a vividly fragmented video for album cut “Do That Dance.” The piece cycles through clips of recorded soccer matches, footage from inside a moving car, and bits of 16-bit video games being played on a CRT display—all of which is layered under a euphorically dancing Nancy Whang (of The Juan Maclean), whose dreamy vocals help lead the charge. As the visual palette cascades across a wide variety of hues and tones, Shit Robot’s disco-infused track boasts a buoyantly pulsing bassline amidst an array of brightly tinted synths. “Do That Dance” will drop with the rest of the forthcoming We Got a Love LP on March 18 via DFA.

Last month, NYC-based arts organization Rhizome curated an event at the New Museum called This Is the End: The E-Cigarette in Context. The day-long program included various talks devoted to the history of electronic cigarettes and the rise of so-called “vape culture,” and its organizers also commissioned a mixtape with original contributions from L-Vis 1990, Aaron David Ross of Gatekeeper, and several others. Entitled Vapecru: Cloud Chasing Vol. 1, the nine-track, multi-genre effort is described as the “first collection of music by vapers for vapers,” and features songs by artists who were asked to make “music to vape to.” L-Vis 1990’s contribution is called “Clouds,” and it can be streamed and downloaded below, along with the rest of the Vapecru mixtape.

On its way down to Miami for the city’s annual explosion of dance music events, UK DJ/production duo Dusky—who just released its “9T8” single earlier this year—has planned a handful of appearances on the East Coast before touching down in Florida. Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman will kick off their string of shows in Boston on March 19, hitting New York, New Orleans, and Washington, DC ahead of their first night in Miami for the Hard festival on March 27. Swedish synth-pop outfit Little Dragon is a couple of months away from releasing its fourth LP Nabuma Rubberband, the lead single from which is the lively and determined “Klapp Klapp.” Now, ahead of the band’s string of appearances at SXSW next week, we’re treated to the premiere of a remix of Little Dragon’s new tune by none other than Night Slugs mainstay Girl Unit. The London artist dismantles “Klapp Klapp” to its bare essence, transforming it into a crystalline and subtly anthemic slow-jam laced with singer Yukimi Nagano’s soulful croon. The entirety of “Klapp Klapp (Girl Unit Remix)” can be streamed below, where the list of Little Dragon’s upcoming SXSW performances can also be found.

After launching a new series of remix 12″s last month, Bristol outpost Livity Sound has revealed that its next installment will feature new productions from A Made Up Sound (a.k.a. 2562, pictured above). Pulled from the Livity Sound collective’s debut LP, label co-head Asusu‘s “Velez” tune has been reworked twice by the longstanding Dutch producer. The forthcoming remix 12″ can be previewed below before it sees an official release on March 31.
