Check Out Matthew Herbert’s Remix of DJ Koze

Before the upcoming remix 12″ for DJ Koze‘s XLR8R Pick’d Amygdala LP drops next month, Matthew Herbert‘s (pictured above) a-side rework of “Magical Boy” is now available to stream. The 10-minute production extends Koze’s original track (which also featured the vocals of Matthew Dear) into a laid-back expedition full of spiralling sound design, subtle soul, and appropriately hidden bits of sonic abstraction—all of which comes topped off by a particularly sultry vocal performance from a singer by the name of Rahel. The forthcoming remix 12″, which also features a rework by Berlin producer Efdemin on its b-side, sees an official release on December 2 via DJ Koze’s own Pampa label. In the meantime, Matthew Herbert’s somewhat unexpectedly pop-flecked remix of “Magical Boy” can be heard below.

Video Premiere: Quenum “Face to Face (Cassy Remix)”

African-born, veteran producer Philippe Quenum (a.k.a. Quenum) moved to London in the ’80s, learned to DJ and produce, and evenutally founded the successful Cadenza label with Swiss-Chilean artist Luciano. Coinciding with Quenum’s recently released Face to Face EP (not to mention an album by the same title which is out next week via Serialism), the producer has shared a (literally) bouncy video for London DJ Cassy‘s remix of the title track. Directed by Fernanda Mattos and Federica Marchese (a.k.a. False Manners Productions), the brightly saturated visuals show a woman jumping down the street on a fitness ball, gradually inspiring onlookers to join her in an exercise conga line around the city that leads to a Quenum-hosted dance party. Cassy’s remix, similar to her XLR8R Pick’d Fabric 71 mix album from this year, is high on energy and pure pleasure, delivering buoyant, immense house rhythms and an indelible vocal sample.

Pyrénées “Jungle Exchange (Murder He Wrote Remix)”

As Pyrénées, South London producer Jeremias Carroza (pictured above) makes music that explores the ideas and elements of nature and geography through dance music. “Jungle Exchange” is one of his latest excursions, one which is set to appear as one of two track on a 12″ for the Numerology label next month, and has been remixed by roster mate Murder He Wrote. The Brighton producer’s version of “Jungle Exchange” is a full-throttle bass track with aquatic sounds streaming over sunset-hued synth tones and straighthead dance grooves. It rides the uptempo patterns of pitched percussion alongside throbbing bass and misty melodies straight through to the end of its six-minute journey. Pyrénées’ original “Jungle Exchange” can be streamed in full after the jump.

Stream Egyptrixx’s ‘A/B Til Infinity’ Album for Night Slugs

Ahead of its impending release next week, the sophomore album by Canadian techno experimentalist Egyptrixx, A/B Til Infinity, can now be heard in its entirety. The nine-song LP’s neon-hued, alien soundscapes will arrive on November 26 via UK label Night Slugs, but are available to stream in full before then, courtesy of Pitchfork Advance.

Video Premiere: NSDOS “Meridien S-Dos”

Longtime collaborators—not only in music but also in dance and digital art—Kirikoo Des and Walter Mecca are NSDOS, a pair whose new Lazer Connect EP just dropped via Parisian outpost ClekClekBoom, with the mechanical “Meridien S-Dos” serving as its opener. The tune’s video sees Des and Mecca in control of a tabletop full of gear, around which a revolving camera picks up the duo’s musical movements and cleverly placed monitors. We encircle NSDOS’s production center as the artists actually improvise the video’s music live. It’s a simple idea, but one that proves to be an effective visual accompaniment to the brisk “Meridien S-Dos,” a selection that carefully rides the line between machine-minded house and efficient techno. A preview of NSDOS’s Lazer Connect EP can be found below.

Hivern Discs to Release New EP from Michael & Mattis; Hear the Title Track Now

John Talabot’s Hivern Discs imprint has announced that it will release a four-track EP from New York/Oslo pair Michael & Mattis next month. Set to drop on December 9, Hoes Before Bros offers three original cuts from the pair—described in the record’s press release as “blend[ing] elements of muffled hip-hop, soulful house, and slick disco”—as well as a remix from Swedish outfit Genius of Time, who recently collaborated with John Talabot for a track on his excellent new DJ-Kicks mix. Before Michael & Mattis’ debut for Hivern drops in the coming weeks (vinyl is out on December 9, the digital package will follow two weeks later), a stream of the Tribe Called Quest-sampling title track (which also features one Chris Hess) can be streamed below, where the EP’s complete tracklist is also included.

Redshape to Release New 12″

Just yesterday, German techno artist Redshape made a cameo with his new “Wires” tune on the latest XLR8R podcast—curated by veteran Swiss producer Deetron—and we now have the official release date for that single. Stripping techno down to its sharpest elements, “Wires” is an abrasively minimal cut with clattering, delayed percussion and guttural bass synths that crescendo in blasts of feedback. The single-sided 12″ is set to drop via Present on November 25 (not long after Redshape gave away a free track for Halloween), and around the same time, his vinyl-only “Made of Steel” record will get a digital release.

Akkord Unveils Video for New Track “Folded Edge”

The pair of Mancunians in Akkord like to play things close to the chest. Having only just revealed their identities back in July, announced a debut LP for Houndstooth last month, and slowly trickled out the new music from that album in a variety of creative ways (there was even an astrophysicist involved), producers Synkro and Indigo are set to drop Akkord next week, but before then, they have one final piece to share.

This video for dank techno cut “Folded Edge” is more of a visualizer than a typical narrative piece, albeit an especially mesmerizing and well-made one. In extreme close-up, director Oliver Jennings toys with a variety of strange, glimmering fluids, making their surfaces splash, twitch, and pulse in surreal ways. His use of colors and patterns speaks to the desaturated sound of Akkord’s new production, and the video as a whole brings life to the vibrations emanating from “Folded Edge”‘s deep and shadowy grooves. Akkord will be released on November 25 via Houndstooth.

KWC 92 “Macau Ferry Terminal”

Samo DJ‘s and Max Stenerudh’s collaborative record as KWC 92, Dream of the Walled City O.S.T., is said to be a conceptual soundtrack for a movie set in the drug- and crime-addled Kowloon Walled City. Lifted from that forthcoming release, “Macau Ferry Terminal” takes the listener on a guided tour through the underworld, as sticky synth patterns and hollow drums illustrate the dank experience. KWC 92’s track trails off into ambient passages infused with fog horns and sickly pads until it leads to a pressurized conclusion.

Julio Bashmore, Disclosure, and More Feature in New PMR Documentary

London-based label PMR has seen a rapid ascent over the past two years, releasing records from the likes of Disclosure (pictured above), Jessie Ware, and T. Williams; today, the label has shared a short documentary chronicling its showcase artists over the two weekends of this year’s Coachella festival. Directed by Dhillon Shukla in conjunction with Noisey, “Into the Valley” follows the label’s high-spirited crew as they travel to the desert heat of Indio, California, leading up to Coachella performances from Ware, Julio Bashmore, and Disclosure. The entirety of “Into the Valley” can be seen below.
