OL & ¥oin “You’ll Never Know (Mike Q & Divoli S’vere Remix)”*Fine Grains*

Last year, ballroom/vogue mainstay Mike Q joined forces with New York City’s Divoli S’vere to helm remixes for the likes of FaltyDL and Le1f. The two producers employed a distinct barking drum blast on each rework, pushing a signature sound which also appears on this fresh collaborative remix of OL & ¥oin‘s forthcoming “You’ll Never Know.” While the original cut is slinky and crisp—rife with muffled, chopped, and pitched vocals—Mike Q and Divoli S’vere go for a ravier energy with the help of jagged stabs and the occasional appearance of a reverb-soaked vocal. The rework will be included alongside OL & ¥oin’s three original tracks and a couple more remixes when the Sink EP drops on May 20 via Fine Grains.

Pangaea Launches Singles Series, Previews First Record

Hessle Audio co-head and consistently adventurous producer Pangaea has announced plans to launch an ongoing series of self-released singles beginning next month. Under the label name Hadal 1—a reference to the ocean’s Hadal zone, the deepest part of the marine environment—the new series will serve as a recurring home for Pangaea’s productions, although the Londoner stresses that there is no particular release plan set at this point. The series’ first single—which actually contains three tracks, “Razz,” “Mission Creep,” and “Viaduct”—will see a release on June 3. While both Pangaea and fellow Hessle Audio founder Pearson Sound have recently launched their own imprints in order to self-release new material, in an interview with FACT, Pangaea assures Hessle fans that operations at the label are nowhere near slowing up. “We both see Hessle as the core of what we do,” he explains in the interview, “but the label has always been about working with other people beyond the three of us [Pangaea, Pearson Sound, and Ben UFO]. I think we’re keen to emphasise that. I guess we’re lucky in that we’ve been able to build our reputations off the back of Hessle and so projects like this are still able to get a bit of attention.” Pangaea’s first single for Hadal 1 can be previewed via the player below.

Video: Kelpe “Single Stripe”

London producer Kelpe has released a stroboscopic new video for “Single Stripe,” a tune set to appear on his forthcoming album, Fourth: The Golden Eagle, out on June 3 via Kelpe’s own DRUT imprint. The track is a lush, woozy rendering of glitchy West Coast beat music; one enhanced by busy, scattered rhythms that are overlain with strings and acoustic percussion. “Single Stripe” is an effort which comes perfectly complemented by the digital geometry of the Graphic Surgery-directed video seen above.

Stream the Debut Album from Footwork Legend RP Boo

It’s hard to get much more OG than Chicago’s RP Boo—the footwork/juke producer credited with essentially inventing the style with his 1997 single “Baby Come On,” which placed an Ol’ Dirty Bastard sample over juke’s now-trademark syncopated rhythms. At last beginning to get his due, RP Boo’s debut full-length, Legacy, is set to drop via Planet Mu on May 13, but before then, can be heard in full on XLR8R. The album is a manic, 160-bpm ride with classic house and more-recent hip-hop and R&B samples flipped and sped up over rapid-fire beats. RP Boo’s Legacy can be streamed in full below. NYC residents will be happy to note that RP Boo will be making his New York debut this Saturday at 285 Kent for the Lit City/Fade to Mind party, the details of which can be found here.

Terror Danjah and Champion Prep Collaborative Single for Hyperdub

UK-grime father figure Terror Danjah (pictured above) has announced a collaborative 12″ with comparative newcomer Champion—a producer we deemed one of last year’s best new artists. Following on the heels of Terror Danjah’s XLR8R Pick’d 2012 album, Dark Crawler, the new release—entitled Sons of Anarchy—contains two collaborative tracks from the pair, as well as one solo track by each, allowing the distinctive personalities of the two producers to shine through. Sons of Anarchy will be out on June 3 via Hyperdub; its artwork and tracklist are included below.

Lockah “Young Neon Countach (Ghost Mutt Remix)”*Donky Pitch*

Aberdeen-based DJ/producer and founder of the Tuff Wax club night and label Lockah is set to release a cassette version of his recent Only Built for Neon Nites EP (artwork above), which includes—as a digital bonus—this remix from Brighton-based tunesmith Ghost Mutt. In Ghost Mutt’s capable hands, the original track’s gliding, luxurious synth lines are softened somewhat and a plaintive vocal sample is introduced into the mix; all the while maintaining the track’s skittering, colourful late-night vibe. Only Built for Neon Nites will be issued on purple cassette, the same color as Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx cassette—an apparently formative release during Lockah’s time as a young lad.

Taragana Pyjarama Preps Upcoming Mini-LP

Copenhagen-based producer—and former Bubblin’ Up subject—Taragana Pyjarama has been somewhat quiet since his ambitious debut LP, Tipped Bowls, was released via the venerable Kompakt label last summer. Now, the man is set to break his recent silence with the release of a new, six-track “mini-lp,” Nothing Hype. Set to drop next month, Nothing Hype is said to find Pyjarama taking on a bit of a different sound than heard on his LP, while still looking to visual images for inspiration—an approach he discovered during the making of Tipped Bowls . “I started collecting pictures and clips and started working with these images in the back of my mind,” the producer tells in his press release before going on to explain, “The overall theme has been grainy and distorted pictures of caves, particularly mysterious crystal caves.” Fortunately, the Copenhagen resident has supplied a teaser video to help give a better idea of what that all means, which can be found below along with the tracklist for Nothing Hype before the record serves as the inaugural release of Pyjarama’s own Wyrd imprint when it drops on June 24.

Watch RBMA’s Short Film on the History of DFA

As part of its month of lectures and events in New York City, Red Bull Music Academy will be doing its part to celebrate iconic NYC label DFA—home to LCD Soundsystem, The Juan Maclean, Gavin Russom’s many endeavors, Shit Robot, The Rapture, Holy Ghost!, Factory Floor, and YACHT, among many other noteworthy projects. In addition to commemorating the imprint’s 12 years of existence with a special party on May 25, RBMA has also put together a short film which chronicles the rise of the imprint so far, telling all of the tales that story entails. Entitled Too Old to Be New, Too New to Be Classic, the illuminating mini-doc breezes through the label’s origins and early history before focusing on its current operations; along the way, we’re treated to plenty of interview footage with label co-head James Murphy and many of DFA’s flagship artists. The full mini-doc can be watched via the player below.

Kill Frenzy and Sacha Robotti “I Like It (B-Ju Remix)”*Food Music*

Dirtybird and Error Broadcast chum B-Ju (pictured above) often takes a sub-first approach to his tunes, keeping things focused on whatever is churning in the low-end before letting his tunes take flight. True to his style, this retake on Dirtybird vet Kill Frenzy‘s and Klasse label affiliate Sacha Robotti‘s “I Like It” is lightly dipped in alien reverb and kept afloat by quietly mixed synth lines that are continually swatted back down by quaking kicks and claps. B-Ju has sneakily been having a busy 2013, having seen a revival of sorts for his 2010 single “My Sneakers,” and receiving more attention from selectors such as Brenmar and various outlets like BBC Radio’s 1Xtra. B-Ju’s remix of “I Like It” is taken from a forthcoming EP for UK label Food Music, the recently launched imprint of DJs Shadow Child and Kry Wolf. The simply titled YUM004 EP will feature two tunes by Kill Frenzy—the Sacha Robotti-featuring “I Like It” included—in addition to this flip from B-Ju, and remixes from Shadow Child and Tom Flynn.
