For Hot City‘s bouncing club tune “Twist,” the duo had a simple video done up by director Paddy Power that’s just as colorful and animated as the song itself. The featured vocalist, MC DT, gets most of the screen time, but shares a bit with the Hot City boys (looking cool in sunglasses as they push buttons) and a couple of nameless ladies (looking good in bright lipstick as they gyrate around). Paddy Power’s animation is pretty slick looking, not to mention a bit comical at times, and works well towards capturing the energy of Hot City’s fun-loving single. (via FACT)

Bassanovva “Chicken Lover (Hackman Remix)”

Who doesn’t love chicken? Well, maybe vegetarians, but make no mistake, the newest signee to Sinden‘s Grizzly label, Bassanovva, certainly does. Enough to include lines like “I love chicken,” “Who likes chicken?” and “Where’s the chicken?” into the title track of its upcoming release. Bassanovva, made up of Thunderheist‘s Grahmzilla and Brooklyn’s Jubilee, get the remix treatment from the UK’s Hackman who takes “Chicken Lover” to its full funky tropical house potential, while keeping the phrase “I Love Chicken” and the song’s occasional pitch-shifted whistle blows intact.

Underworld “Always Loved a Film (Christian Martin Remix)”

The UK’s Underworld (pictured above) has been making music for a long time now (since 1988 to be precise), and it is a testament to their talent that they have continued to sound current and innovative for so long, which makes it no easy job to remix one of their tracks. Not to worry, San Francisco’s Christian Martin has not taken the task lightly. The Dirtybird affiliate takes the original from Underworld’s newest LP, Barking, and turns the house knob up to 11, dubbing out the vocals, throwing in some tasty percussion, and featuring an infectiously gurgling bassline. For those in California who need more than a remix to satisfy their Underworld fix, the duo will be making its way around this weekend, check the dates after the jump.

Friday, October 29 – Cow Palace, San Francisco
Saturday, October 30 – 4th and B, San Diego
Sunday, October 31 – Shrine Expo Hall, Los Angeles

Listen to Caribou’s ‘Swim Remixes’ with Junior Boys, Fuck Buttons, Nite Jewel, Ikonika, and More

We’ve been waiting on this album of remixes for Caribou‘s excellent Swim album for only a few weeks now, since we first offered a download of Motor City Drum Ensemble’s lengthy take on “Leave House.” Still, we’re excited to see its early arrival in the form of a streaming player. Thanks to the good people at Soundcloud and Domino, we can listen to all of Swim Remixes before it drops stateside on November 2. 14 tweaked versions of Caribou’s ten original album cuts come courtesy of a wide array of producers, including Ikonika, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Fuck Buttons, Nite Jewel, Junior Boys, DJ Koze, Gold Panda, and more. We’ve embedded the player for you below. (via Guardian UK)

Lemonade “Remain in Jah (Chrissy Murderbot Juke Remix)”

Since Lemonade‘s Pure Moods EP dropped earlier this year, we’ve heard our fair share of remixes for songs from that release—many of them good in their own ways, but none that stood out as the one. And then yesterday, we came across this gem on Stereogum. Chicago DJ, producer, label head, and unofficial juke/footwork spokesperson Chrissy Murderbot (pictured above) took to Lemonade’s “Remain in Jah” like DJ Rashad to an R&B hook, splicing the steel drums, new age synth pads, and airy vocal melodies into the flitting hi-hats, breakneck kick patterns, and smashing claps that make up his juke rhythms. All in all, it could very well be the best reworking of a Lemonade jam out there, but is certainly a wonderfully unconventional application of juke’s hyperactive beats. You can check out Lemonade’s upcoming tour dates after the jump.

Salva “Mag Clips (Ango Remix)”

Last week, we premiered the first goods to surface from a remix trade-off between Montreal tunesmith Ango and his Bay Area counterpart Salva (pictured above). The “Part Time (Salva Remix)” track exhibited what the SF-based producer could do with his buddy’s beats, and now we have the flipside of that exchange, “Mag Clips (Ango Remix).” Salva’s original tune is described on his Soundcloud profile as “Toaster Oven Juke,” and while we couldn’t quite explain exactly what that means, we’d say Ango’s remix could loosely fit the description as well. But while much of the original employs a slow groove with skittering percussion and bass wobbles dancing over the top, this version bounces hard and fast with light-footed dance beats while the deep synth washes waft undisturbed in the background. After hearing these new tunes from Frite Nite label head Salva, along with another fresh original over at The FADER, we can’t help but wonder what his upcoming Complex Housing album will sound like when it drops on February 8 via Friends of Friends.

Stream the New Small Black Album

Since their self-titled EP skyrocketed to chillwave fame last year, New York’s Small Black has been somewhat sparse with its output of new material, only serving to build the anticipation for the group’s debut full length, New Chain. Released earlier this week on Jagjaguwar, the 10-track LP finds the four-piece expanding its production techniques and songwriting to new regions and cementing its place atop the chillwave mountain. But don’t take our word for it, the good people at Jagjaguwar have made the whole album available to stream for one week from their Soundcloud account. If you have dimmable lights somewhere nearby, we suggest making use of them before pressing play; if not, perhaps closing your eyes will do.
