Astronomy Domine “Imbolc”

Tomorrow, MM AUDIO will release its first EP of the year with Astronomy Domine‘s Lammas

Lammas offers two originals from Astronomy Domine, alongside remixes by Wrong Assessment and Pacou. The originals open the EP, starting with “Imbolc,” a deep and mesmerizing live jam recorded with a drum machine, Moog sub 37, and a vocoder, before the EP’s title track dazzles with a mix of ritualistic percussion and stark tension. On the remix front, Wrong Assessment and Pacou both tackle the title track, with the former going down a deep and melodic route and the latter focusing on a galloping heads-down rhythm.

In support of the release, the label has offered up the EP’s opening cut as today’s XLR8R download, available to grab via WeTransfer below.

You can pre-order the release here.

Premiere: Hear a Gritty Downtempo Cut From Enrico Sangiuliano

Enrico Sangiuliano has a new concept album on the way via Drumcode

Titled Biomorph, the nine-track LP is split into four parts, taking the listener through the four stages of evolution: Organisms, Cosmic Forces, Metamorphosis, and Two Probabilities. Across a set of cuts that touch on downtempo, IDM, ambient, drone, and techno, Enrico explores “how biological and technological advances over numerous generations of time have all started from the same first step in our own biological journey.” Biomorph is an immersive listen, patiently delivering its message with understated style and subtlety.

In support of the album, Drumcode has offered up a full stream of “Arboreal,” a warped downtempo cut from the album’s Metamorphosis section, available via the player below.

Download a New Mix From Julian Perez

Julian Perez has released a new mix in support of a five-date US tour in June.

The tour, which stops in New York, Miami, and LA, signals the start of a busy few months for the Girada Unlimited label head, with an appearance at Cocoon Ibiza set for this summer, along with an August tour of Central and South America. The tour announcement also follows Girada first release of the year, a deep four-tracker from D&S titled Sources Of Light—it’s also the first release on Girada from an artist other than Perez himself.

In support of the approaching tour dates, all of which will be revealed soon, Perez has offered up a fresh, exclusive mix for stream and download. The mix is an enticing preview of what to expect from the seasoned selector, unfolding across 65 minutes in a smooth and stylish fashion.

You can stream and download the mix below, with more information on the tour here.

Breek ‘Oiwa’ (Massive Remix)

Amsterdam duo Breek (a.k.a. Salvador Breed and Stijn van Beek) first popped up on our radar back in 2012 with the release of Burst, a deep and melodic EP released via Atomnation—XLR8R evidently released a rich and textural house track from the EP via our downloads section, too.

Now, the duo return with Yokai, a gorgeous six-track EP to be released on vinyl via Shipwrec on May 28, with digital and streaming to follow on June 4. In tune with the record’s transfixing artwork by Warren Du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones, Yokai is full of multi-colored synth lines, gorgeous melodies, and deftly programmed drums—from the breaks-heavy rhythms of the title track to the deep, futuristic groove of “Oiwa.”

In support of the release, Breek have offered up Massive’s remix of “Oiwa” as today’s XLR8R download. Focusing on searing acid lines and chopped up breaks, the remix takes the deep original into ravier territory, a perfect cut for the dreamy early hours of a morning.

Premiere: Hear a Slamming Cut From Amelie Lens’ New Label

Breakout techno artist Amelie Lens has launched a new label Lenske.

Lenske, which is set to be a platform for Amelie to explore the deeper end of her techno spectrum whilst releasing works from herself, her friends, and collaborators, kicks off today with Risin’, an EP by fellow Belgian producer Farrago. The EP features two solo originals from Farrago alongside a collab with Amelie and a remix by Kobosil. From the near 12-minute peak-time steamroller “The Riddler” to Kobosil’s tense and foreboding remix and Amelie and Farrago’s speaker-rattling collab, Risin’ is full of high-velocity techno cuts that fit perfectly within the driving techno framework Amelie has made her name on.

Jenny Hval Shares New Video for “Spells”

Today sees Norwegian multidisciplinary artist Jenny Hval release her new EP The Long Sleep via Sacred Bones. As Hval’s first official release since 2016’s Blood Bitch, The Long Sleep EP follows the Lost Girls collaborative EP with Håvard Volden, released this past February, and precedes Hval’s debut novel, Paradise Rot, published by Penguin Random House’s Verso, and out October 2.

After presenting “Spells” as a pre-release stream, Hval now reveals the song’s video, directed by Constance Tenvik.

As Hval describes it, “A detective-like version of Jenny is carrying a mysterious suitcase through various disco-infused rooms. At times her doppelganger appears. Soon enough the content of the chased suitcase is revealed to be pastel colored marshmallows. The slumber party is officially open and the sweets are up for grabs. A pillow fight evolves into a carnivalesque parade serving dance moves and crocodiles made out of bread and spinach – and with hard boiled eggs as eyes (recipe found in Roald Dahl’s Revolting Recipes). On the dancefloor, Jenny attempts to become a disco ball by draping herself in silver sequins and by pointing with a Maglite on the rotating body. While she is covered in silvery fabrics and spinning, she is not noticing that the party is leaving her.”

The Long Sleep is out now with the video for “Spells” streaming below.
