Lighthouse Festival Details 2018 Plans

Croatia’s Lighthouse Festival has confirmed its plans for the upcoming edition, taking place from May 30 to June 3 in Tar, Croatia.

The annual event, now on its sixth edition, is an international effort, with crew coming from all over Europe. Previous editions have seen the event gain a strong recognition in what is a saturated market in Croatia, so much so that this year’s edition is already sold out. Capacity is limited to 3500 guests, and to keep the family spirit they’ve created a closed community with a special “friends of friends” invitation system. On the bill are Avalon Emerson, Bambounou, Or:la, Ryan Elliott, Moodymann, e/tape, and many more, spanning house, techno, experimental, disco, and more.  Over 140 acts are scheduled to perform.

Accompanying the music will be an array of art and light installations, showcases, environmental initiatives, immersive audiovisual delights, and activities. This includes the modular lab that serves as a way for attendees to see and understand a little more about the dark art of modular synthesis. Experiment Intrinsic crew will also return, bringing with them their intimate, mystical project that combines ambient-oriented music, visual arts, and workshops related to personal well-being. There will also be yoga and outdoor movie screenings.

This year’s edition takes place from May 30 to June 3 in Tar, Croatia, with the full lineup of headliners available to view below, alongside a photo gallery of last year’s edition. Meanwhile, more information can be found here.

Mettani ‘Anubiya’

Infiné is set to release Under Frustration, a three-part compilation from Tunisian collective Arabstazy, on May 25.

The compilation provides a look at the contemporary electronic music scene in the Arab world, whilst looking to deconstruct the occidental perceptions that see the Arab World as a culturally united and homogeneous entity—a “manifesto for the burgeoning wave of post-revolution futurism,” as the collective states. The cuts on the release range from drone and industrial outings to IDM, broken beat, and left-field techno.

In support of the release, Infiné Music has offered up a download of “Anubiya,” a track by Mettani, the solo project of Amine Metani, a French Tunisian electronic musician and founder of the Arabstazy collective and Tunisian record label Shouka. First composed as an OST for Marion Petegnief’s animated film Prophet, “Anubiya” furthers Mettani’s exploration of religious syncretisms, blending Islamic call for early prayer with the Dies Irae heard in Ingmar Bergman movie “The Seventh Seal”—it’s deep, trippy, and unhinged in all the right ways.

You can download “Anubiya” below, with Under Frustration available for pre-order here

Black Asteroid ‘Tangiers’ feat. Michele Lamy (Drone Remix)

The six-track Slam Dance EP features remixes by Regis, Headless Horseman, and The Horrorist, all of whom rework tracks from Black Asteroid’s debut Thrust LP. We’re told that each track is a “neat summation” of the Black Asteroid aesthetic: elegant and brutal. It comes also with an unreleased track, titled “Slam Dance.”

“With this EP, I cherry-picked my favorite songs from the album and enlisted my favorite producers to rework them. Slam Dance is a companion to Thrust showcasing a harder, darker, dancefloor-driven sound. The title song, “Slam Dance,” is previously unreleased, and a personal favorite from the album sessions.“

02. Sun Explodes feat. Cold Cave (Headless Horseman Remix)

Oona Dahl Shares Deep New Mix

Oona Dahl, the Hallucienda-affiliated producer and DJ who is also one half of electronic duo Slumber, has shared a thumping new mix in support of her upcoming performance at Lightning In A Bottle.

Fresh off a new Slumber record on Motek, and still buzzing from the release of her debut solo album, Holograma, on Hallucienda last year, Oona Dahl’s rise to the upper ranks of dreamy, ambient-influenced house and techno selectors has been clear-cut and steady. Her continued involvement with Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream label and party series has made her a household name in underground dance music circles, and this summer Dahl is set to perform at several All Day I Dream showcases and festivals, including next weekend’s annual Lightning In A Bottle Festival in Bradley, CA.

At LIB, Dahl’s Sunday afternoon set is sandwiched in between performances from LA-based producer SAAND and fellow All Day I Dream contributor Yokoo at the house and techno-oriented Woogie stage. The stage is also set to feature appearances from The Black Madonna, Stimming, French house pioneer Rodriguez Jr., and Afterlife mainstay Patrice Baumel.

You can stream the mix in full below.

Premiere: Hear a Psychedelic Techno Cut From Mor Elian

On May 25, Mor Elian will return to Hypercolour with her latest EP, Persona Non Grata.

The EP follows on from Elian’s brilliant Fairplex Drive EP on Radio Matrix, which landed back in January, with another four killer cuts of electro-infused techno. From the title track’s dusty electro groove to the side-stepping rhythms of “Dysmorphia” and the heady, psychedelic synth work of “Feral Chime,” Persona Non Grata is Elian’s most complete statement yet and one set to turn some heads on the dancefloor.

Ahead of the release next week, you can pre-order the EP here, with “Feral Chime” streaming in full below.

Miss Red Lines Up Debut Full-Length, ‘K.O.’

Miss Red (a.k.a Israeli dancehall MC Sharon Stern) will soon release her debut full-length, K.O., produced entirely by Kevin Martin (a.k.a The Bug) and coming on his newly formed Pressure label on July 13. K.O. will be the first full-length on Pressure and is the proper follow-up to The Bug & Burial’s collaborative “Fog” // “Shrine” singles.

In 2015, Miss Red dropped her first solo mixtape, Murder, with The Bug’s riddims supplemented with contributions from other producers such as Mark Pritchard, Mumdance, and Andy Stott. Subsequent singles on her own Red label and the in-house imprint of London record shop Sounds Of The Universe have sold out, and she has received acclaim for her collaborations with Warp Records artist Gaika.

The Miss Red persona has developed over time spent in London and Berlin, and as a regular member of the Bug’s touring line-up alongside fellow MCs Flowdan, Daddy Freddy, Warrior Queen, and Riko Dan.

Of K.O., she comments: “For me, reggae is the foundation of this record but the album’s movement is freer. It mirrors my need to move and keep challenging myself. As a white Israeli girl working as an MC in the music industry, and in particular as a singer, it’s a BIG battle to be taken seriously, and as a woman in the music industry, I am in an obvious minority, the situation is clear, the MAN is still in control—that has got to be addressed, and changed.”

The album’s title and photo allude to Miss Red’s grandfather, a well-known prized fighter who unfortunately passed away during the writing and recording of the album. K.O. is made in his memory.

Tracklisting:

01. Shock Out

02. One Shot Killer

03. Money Machine

04. Alarm

05. War

06. Come Again

07. Big

08. Clouds

09. Dust

10. Dagga

11. Slay

12. Memorial Day

13. K.O.

K.O. will land on July 13 via Pressure, with “Dagga” streaming in full below.

In order to thank its followers, Berg Audio has offered up a new and unreleased Traumer’s reduced version of “Essence,” his collaboration with the Delano Smith. The original version was included on the label’s Directions compilation.

Rasmus Juncker LP Next on Francis Harris’ Kingdoms

Francis HarrisKingdoms imprint will release Rasmus Juncker’s debut Ophold LP, featuring six tracks “of sublime atmospheres and textures.”

Juncker has a background in studying jazz drumming and has been playing improvised music for many years. He also started to DJ at the age of 14 and was introduced to the world of electronic music production at the same time. Besides being an in-demand musician, his current work spans wide from sound design for performing arts, sound installations, and music engineering.

When Rasmus started to work on the album, he spent several months trying to find his own way to combine his favorite musical influences, improvisation, electronics and classical music. “Almost a year later,” Juncker says, “I went to a sensory deprivation floating tank in Copenhagen and while I was lying there, floating in the water, deprived of most of my senses, I got the idea to do something really drastic in my musical process. Philosophers like Immanuel Kant describe this deprived state as a mental “Cesura,” which became some sort of guideline for the album.”

So Juncker decided to start working on the album by leaving the process as well as the final result completely open. “I wanted to create sounds and music that I had no absolutely no idea what would sound like, but would feel like a mental “Cesura,” an ‘Ophold’ (in Danish),” he states. He invited musicians, one after the other, to his studio.

“First I sat down with an electronic musician and we improvised synthesizer patterns and new interesting sounds inspired by my experience in the deprivation tank. I chose some of the takes and, weeks later I invited a jazz guitarist to listen and improvise on top of what he heard. Then a classical string quartet and a double bass player came to my studio months later, and in the end, I recorded myself improvising on percussion, drums, and synthesizers.”

The material used was all first take improvisation which was then arrangd, layered, and edited into compositions. The final pieces were mixed by Andreas Pallisgaard with the same improvised and experimental approach of the recording and the production. None of the musicians met each other, “but their sounds developed into something completely fantastic I think,” Juncker explains.

The LP will be the label’s sixth release.

Ophold LP is scheduled for June 1 release, with clips streaming below.

Premiere: Hear a Dreamy Breakbeat Remix From DJ Sports

Next week, Love Potion will drop a remix package from Takecha‘s recently released Deep Soundscapes, featuring reworks from Detroit’s Mike Huckaby, Aniara’s Henrik Bergqvist, the elusive Raam, Firecracker and Regelbau’s DJ Sports, as well as Wania and Freakout Cult’s LNS.

Released in March, Deep Soundscapes pulled together Takecha’s work between 1990 and 2013 and now gets the remix treatment from some of the best in the game. From Mike Huckaby’s sultry interpretation of “Low Sentiment” to DJ Sports’ dreamy breakbeat rework, the new package gives a fresh perspective on Takecha’s tracks, and a handful of dancefloor weapons for adventurous DJs.

Takecha’s Deep Soundscapes (The Remixes) drops via Love Potion on May 23 and can be pre-ordered here, with DJ Sports’ remix streaming in full below.
