Premiere: Hear a Smooth New Cut From Minimono

The latest release on Inner Balance will land on September 4 from Minimono.

Minimono is the pairing of Bosconi Records label heads Fabio Della Torre and Ennio Colaci, landing on Inner Balance fresh from releases on the legendary Vibraphone and Robsoul labels. The new EP, On The Edge, follows a standout EP from Arcaresnal with a collection of classicist house cuts. From the swinging grooves of “Goblin” to the smooth chords and walking bassline of “On The Edge” and the jazzy flourishes of “This Side Of The Forest,” the EP will be a perfect addition to the bags of house heads the world over.

Eric Copeland Returns to DFA

Eric Copeland is set to return to DFA with a brand-new set of hyper and hectic left field club music, titled Goofballs.

Eric Copeland is a founding member of Black Dice as well as a prolific solo artist. Besides DFA, where he has already released two solo LPs, he has released albums on L.I.E.S., Post Present Medium, Paw Tracks.

Goofballs places its emphasis on playful melodies, ear worm hooks, and vocals mixed with trademark machine funk rhythms that hit hard and land off balance.

Eric explained the creation of this new LP via email from his home on an island in lovely Balearic Palma Spain:

“I made it here in Palma at my studio, this is the first full record I’ve made entirely here since moving. Some of this material was road tested in September 2016 on tour. This album was the result of real isolation here, countless hours, focused only on this. The whole recording and writing was a fast process. I focused most on the bass groove. I had a very minimal gear setup: ’90s drum machine, cheap bass machine, and a sampler. But most important was a homemade “drum brain” that Barry’s London custom made for me. That piece of gear was a big part of this record and informed the direction it took the most.”

MANIK Preps Sophomore Album for Ovum

MANIK‘s sophomore album, Undergroundknowledge, is set to drop on Ovum on October 6.

MANIK should need no introduction to regular XLR8R readers. Over the years, his regular contributions to our downloads section have proved time and time again to be the most popular tracks offered—he also recorded a stellar podcast back in 2015, which you can check out here.

Following on from his debut album, Armies of the Night, which was released on Ovum in 2011, Undergroundknowledge is an autobiographical look into MANIK’s upbringing in NYC and journey through music, as he explains: “Undergroundknowledge is a journey into Queens on the 7 train. It flips through my history (my youth and the sights, smells, and sounds around me) and is a window on how I grew up. Musicality wise, I wanted to explore my background of house music, but also dig deeper on the jazzy and hip-hop influences.”

Ahead of the release, you can stream a snippet from the album below.

Cyclonix ‘Sekighara’

Earlier this month, Bristol’s Phuture Shock Musik released Cyclonix‘s Alien Drug Store EP, featuring a remix from 4Hero’s Marc Mac.

The new EP follows on from a contribution on Phuture Shock Excursion’s EXCURSIONS #3 VA and the Theories EP on Talahachi earlier this year. Alien Drug Store will be his debut EP for Phuture Shock Musik, exploring the deeper and more experimental spectrum of house music.

Recording almost entirely within Ableton, Alien Drug Store, like its name alludes, is full of tripped-out sci-fi synths, warped vocal chops, and a range of crunchy, grit-filled percussion. For his remix, Marc Mac, under his Nu Era moniker, turns his hand to “You’d Better Not,” twisting the heads-down original into a smooth and uplifting ride full of floating strings and deep piano chords.

You can pick up Alien Drug Storehere, with a bonus cut titled “Sekigahara” available for free below.
