Reworks Festival 2017 Presents Resound Echoes of Thessaloniki

Reworks Festival 2017 has presented Resound/Echoes of Thessaloniki, an ambitious project that aims to create a soundtrack for the city by musicians from all over the world based on natural sounds found in various spots around its urban landscape.

The White Tower, the seafront of Thessaloniki, the Byzantine walls, Kapani market and Modiano market are some of the spots that will offer the first musical material to Resound/Echoes of Τhessaloniki. Field sounds of those spots have been recorded alongside some sound loops, all of which are available to download here.

To participate, download the audio files and create your own proposal, track or remix. Send your email to [email protected] placing as subject the title “Resound/Echos of Thessaloniki”, including your name (or artist name) and a link where we can download your track. Compositions will be uploaded to the project’s pages on Mixcloud and Soundcloud.

The participant with the selected composition, chosen by a selection of artists including Larry Gus, And.id, Cayetano, Tendts, and Ison (NON) will have the chance to play at Reworks 2017 and participate on the committee in the next edition of Resound/Echoes of Thessaloniki.

The application deadline is August 27, 2017.

Hemlock to Release New Airhead 12″

Hemlock Recordings will release a new Airhead 12″, Shaded / Antipolo.

Airhead has put out some great music this year. Kicking off with the radiophonic ice of Kazzt for Mumdance’s Different Circles and just recently the low-slung Cristobal on PS Records, his production chops get bolder by the minute. It’s no surprise seeing as he spent much of the previous year producing key tracks for the 1-800 Dinosaur Presents Trim album alongside Bullion and Boothroyd as well as regularly touring and writing with musical partner James Blake.

Back with another 12” on Hemlock, his first since 2014’s rolling October / Macondo this time the sound is “dustier, warmer, but packing twice the punch all the while retaining his signature understated wild-man groove,” the label explains.

Tracklisting

A1. Shaded
B1. Antipolo

Shaded / Antipolo EP is scheduled for September 29 release.

BPMF ‘Even Straighter’

BPMF will release a new EP.

As BPMF started making techno again, he surveyed his techno friends asking them what it was about his music they found the most annoying. The answers: TR-606 hi-hats and Portamento. He proceeded to focus on these aspects of his music and today the results are here: Abide the Glide Vol 4, a new four-track EP.

Ahead of the EP’s September 1 release via Schmer Records, opener “Even Straighter” is available for download below, with clips available, too.

The Mole Announces New LP and U.S Tour

Colin De La Planteour (a.k.a The Mole) has a new album on the way, De La Planet, via Maybe Tomorrow.

De La Planet is the third full-length for The Mole, landing just over four years after his last one, Caregiver.

We’re told that it “stays true to his ethos of weird above all in the best possible sense,” although it feels “distinctly new.” It comes from”tapping his enormous reservoir of vinyl and sampling the odd film” which has “acted as a complement to the jaw-dropping arsenal of synthesizers at de la Plante’s disposal—a battery of machines he’s been quietly improving his skills on during the past few years.”

In addition to this, the Berlin-based artist has announced his first U.S tour in over 21 years, hitting San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Detroit, and Brooklyn in September.

Tracklisting

01. Harmony Day
02. Going With The Hat Man

Boiler Room x Ballantine’s True Music Touches Down in Poland

Boiler Room x Ballantine’s True Music will soon touch down in Warsaw for True Music Poland, the third leg of the latest multi-city tour and the 18th show of their partnership.

The Boiler Room x Ballantine’s collaboration is a global platform that supports and celebrates uncompromising artists committed to doing it “their way.”

This finale will feature the second True Music Forum, the coming together of some of the music industry’s leading figures to discuss the evolution of music, culture, and nightlife in 2017. The event will comprise four live-streamed panel discussions, plus an intimate “In Conversation With” interview with Seth Troxler. The project then culminates with a 1,000 capacity True Music show and lineup featuring global and local DJs, including Brodka, Catz’n’Dogz, B. Traits, and Craig Richards, all broadcast live on the True Music site.

With Seth Troxler spearheading the campaign, the Boiler Room x Ballantine’s True Music Forum aims to inspire and engage the next generation of True Music artists through live-streamed panels featuring an impressive lineup of artists and industry innovators from record labels, broadcasters, and more.

Troxler will participate in an insightful, intimate Q&A session during which he will discuss his career, outlook on music, politics and the state of the industry as a whole.

The forum will also see the likes of artist Kojey Radical, Gosia Plysa (Unsound), Nadine Raihani (Native Instruments), composer SøS Gunver Ryberg, and Luz Diaz (Room for Resistance) take to the stage alongside other music industry leaders for four panels exploring:

The Role of Artists in 2017

A Lens on Poland’s Scene

The Future of Sound

The New Media Landscape

In addition to this, Seth Troxler has selected some of his favorite local producers who he feels share his True Music ethos and passion for making exciting music, to work with him on original collaborations. The culmination of these collaborations will be the True Music EP II, comprising remixes from Seth’s back catalog and original tracks, featuring artists Renato Ratier, Julia Govor, and Catz ‘n Dogz.

The True Music EP II will be available as a free download in September to coincide with the finale in Warsaw,

Weekly Selections: Barnt & Mike Servito at Lights Down Low, Lost Village Festival, Apollonia & Friends at Unleash

Lights Down Low, the veteran West Coast event series known for its warehouse parties in Los Angeles and club nights in San Francisco, returns this Friday with another booming techno-focused lineup at a TBA location in Downtown LA. Following on from several successful events this summer featuring the likes of DJ Stingray, Pangaea, Scuba, and more, this weekend sees LDL organizers continue their streak with another stellar set of techno selectors, with Magazine co-founder Barnt and Mike Servito of The Bunker at the top of the bill. LA’s own Silent Servant will also play the party, along with Lights Down Low resident Corey Sizemore. Presales are highly recommended; get them here.

This weekend marks the third edition of Lost Village Festival, one of the newer boutique electronic festivals making headlines in the UK scene. Taking place in an abandoned woodland just north of Norton Disney, Lost Village aims to combine a range of quality electronic acts with intimate crowds, gourmet food, spa treatments, and theatrical performances. The lineup for this year’s edition is arguably the best yet; headliners Moderat and De La Soul will be joined by some of electronic music’s hottest acts, including The Black Madonna, Bicep, Jeremy Underground, Horse Meat Disco, Greg Wilson, Nina Kraviz, and many more. Tickets are already completely sold out, but you can find more info about Lost Village by going here.

And on Sunday, Unleash returns to Shoreditch for their legendary Bank Holiday gathering, which begins in the streets of Shoreditch for a daytime block party and continues all-night-long at Studio Spaces E1. Following on from their sold out party with Guy Gerber in July, Unleash organizers have locked in veteran French house masters Apollonia, along with several of the trio’s friends and labelmates, including Ion Ludwig, Moment Records boss Barac, and the German live act Wareika. Tom Bulwer ‘Voices’

Back in July of last year, we featured a dub version of Ibiza-based artist Juan Corbi‘s “Cosmo,” in support of the first release on The Bricks. Now, the label is back with a new single from Tom Bulwer, titled “Nuit Blanche.”

To celebrate Bulwer’s debut on the label, Bulwer and The Bricks have offered up his latest modular masterpiece “Voices” as today’s XLR8R download. Across five minutes, Bulwer weaves spacious atmospheres and subtly evolving synth lines into a meditative haze. The track was recorded on a range of modular gear, as Bulwer explains:

“The track was made using Akemie’s Castle for the voices and FM, a mixture of filters including the Intellijel micro filter, the Batumi on LFO duties, and some other modules patched in that I can’t quite remember. The Akemie Castle uses vintage ‘new old stock’ Yamaha YMF262 (a.k.a. OPL3) chips, so they need to be tamed, hence some clicks and bleed from the oscillators. I recorded it on a ‘nuit blanche’ as the sun was rising.”

You can grab “Voices” below, with “Nuit Blanche” available here.

Premiere: Hear a Deep and Dubby Cut From Arkajo

Nils Krogh (a.k.a. Arjako) has a new solo EP dropping on Brotherhood Sound System on September 15.

Krogh is most known as one-half of Genius of Time, a revered duo operating in the house and techno realm with releases on labels such as Aniara Recordings, Running Back, and Royal Oak.

Krogh’s latest release as Arkajo, the Panacea EP, will be the third solo release on Silas & Snare‘s Brotherhood Sound System, presenting three deep club cuts ripe for the floor. From the hypnotic atmospheres of “Tape 8” to the after-hours vibes of “Tape 15” and the title cut’s deep and dubby grooves, Krogh delivers a diverse set of cuts fit for all hours.

You can pre-order Panacea here, with the title cut streaming in full below.

Watch a Mixing Masterclass From Point Blank

Back in July, Point Blank held a range of artist classes, workshops, and panels at IMS Malta, including masterclasses on composing for film with Agoria, a Jamiroquai track deconstruction with Ski Oakenfull, a production masterclass with Uner, and a mixing masterclass with Point Blank’s Creative Director JC Concato.

Drawing on his extensive industry experience, JC begins the masterclass with a in-depth look at his usage of mix bus plugins, discussing console emulation, mix bus compression, mix bus EQ, harmonic distortion, A/B analysis, and level analysis, as well as further elaborating on his overall mixing process.

You can watch the video in full via the player above, with more on Point Blank’s courses here.

Andreas Tilliander and Brendon Moeller Collaborate for Kynant Records EP

TM404 & Echologist (a.k.a Andreas Tilliander and Brendon Moeller) will collaborate for a new EP on Kynant Records.

Bass Desires is the first ever collaboration between the producers, two leading names in dub techno and ambient electronics. The EP was produced between their studios in New York and Stockholm, with the results sitting “in between the powerful oscillations of Echologist’s previous EP for Kynant (KYN005) and the slo-mo, Roland jams TM404 specializes in,” the label explains.
