Premiere: Stream the Title Track from New Rodriguez Jr. LP

As previously announced, Rodriguez Jr. is set to return to Mobilee with his second LP, titled Baobab.

Resident Advisor named the French artist in their Best Live Acts of 2016, and in between his famed live shows, he has created a ten-track LP that “elicits powerful emotions through music,” the label explains.

“Baobab is about roots. It has mainly been written whilst traveling and I needed to reconnect to my roots: the music I used to listen to as a teenager from South Of France, my first parties, this fantastic sense of freshness, enthusiasm, and innocence. This is why I decided to call it Baobab: a big tree proud to grow up in a lush surrounding, with its roots deep in the floor.”

The album sees Rodriguez Jr. collaborate with Liset Alea, the singer, and composer from Nouvelle Vague, whose vocals shine through on three of the tracks as well as Rodriguez Jr ‘s own vocals on “Heal Me.” Speaking about his collaboration with Liset, Olivier says, “the singer is a key part of this album as her voice is a link between different phases. The interaction in the studio has been extremely spontaneous and emotional.”

02. Heal Me
03 Baobab
04 Waste Tomorrow feat. Liset Alea

Best Available Technology Preps New LP

Best Available Technology will release his latest full-length, Exposure Therapy, out June 2 via Styles Upon Styles.

Best Available Technology is the project of Kevin Palmer, a Portland-based producer who has released several LPs and EPs over the past five years or so. Exposure Therapy is “as expansive as it is intensely personal,” the label explains.

Over the last three decades, Palmer has been experimenting with how to express a deep affection for a sound that was always thousands of miles away growing up, and this is said to be his distinctive vision of that era. Palmer’s abiding love for a specific moment in New York’s musical history is also driven with a looming anxiousness as if he’s unsure of how best to act as a conduit for a time he experienced by proxy. “The physical distance and insecurity lend something unique to Exposure Therapy, sounding as if the high-pitched peal of graffiti-covered subway cars and the persistent din of traffic endemic to boom bap-era New York were beamed to another world,” the label continues.

The album will arrive on Styles Upon Styles, and the Brooklyn-based label “provides the perfect canvas for B.A.T.’s brush strokes on the LP,” which Palmer describes as “a complex meditation on the golden age of New York hip-hop.” It juxtaposes “ambient, dub, hip-hop beats and left-field techno,” while simultaneously celebrating “the sonic triumphs of the NYC boom-bap sound and mourning its passing temporality through morphed and decayed productions.”

In advance of the LP’s June 2 release, “Session 4190″— a smoked out, introspective, and moody lo-fi beat—can be streamed in full below.

Tracklisting:

01. Session 10670
02. Session 11673
03. Session 9177
04. Session 7780

Johnathan Thomas ‘Invasive’ (Frenquency Remix)

Johnathan Thomas‘ latest single, “Invasive,” dropped at the end of last month via Barcelona-based label Xenonyms.

Although he had always been inspired by club-based music, it wasn’t until recently that Thomas started producing it, with this single marking his first official outing in the dancefloor arena. Alongside the dark and atmospheric original, Thomas enlisted a cast of his favorite underground producers to provide remixes, including interpretations from Xenonyms label boss Seapoint, Slow Graffiti, Frenquency, and Lecoughski.

In support of the release, Xenonyms has passed over Frequency’s deep, bass-heavy rework as today’s XLR8R download. With its wobbly bass and tripped-out synth lines, Frenquency’s remix is bound to hypnotize the dancefloor.

You can grab the track via WeTransfer below, with the full release available here.
