Flying Lotus Shares Trailer for Feature Film

Steven Ellis (a.k.a Flying Lotus) has shared the trailer for ‘Kuso,’ the feature film he has created alongside David Firth, Zach Fox, and Eddie Alcazar.

‘Kuso’ centres around LA in the bizarre aftermath of an apocalyptic earthquake, and features a long list of underground comedians, like including Hannibal Buress, Anders Holmes, and Tim Heidecker.

The score will be packed with original music from FlyLo (and his rap persona Captain Murphy), Aphex Twin, Thundercat, and the Japanese video game composer Akira Yamoaka of Silent Hill.

Ahead of ‘Kuso”s release at this month’s Sundance Film Festival, a trailer is viewable above.

Probabilistic Next Up on Melliflow

Probabilistic is set to debut on Melliflow.

Two-track EP Paradigm will be the first release of 2017 for Vera and Alexandra‘s Melliflow imprint. At present, little is known about the mystery producer behind the record, with no prior releases. Judging by the snippets, listeners can look forward to two minimalist, trippy house numbers.

The record is the fifth to arrive on the Berlin-based imprint, following on from an opening year in which the label put out records by Z@p, Spacetravel, And.rea, and AK41 (a.k.a. Dan Andrei and Șerban Goanță).

Paradigm is expected to drop at the end of February. Stream snippets below.

Marvin & Guy Launch the Equation Series

Marvin & Guy have launched Equation, a series of releases that focuses on “very special edits” by “very special artists.”

This series will be curated by Marvin & Guy themselves. It will be out in three volumes in different colours: firstly in black, secondly in grey, and then thirdly in white. Each release will be available exclusively on vinyl, and limited to just 300 records; no digital formats will be released. The three EPs will be published every other two months after today’s Equation 1 launch. The identity of the artists behind the edits will not be revealed.

For Equation 1, the artists are “the most sporty DJ of Italian dancefloors who prepares spaghetti as good as he prepares remixes, a Jesus Christ bearded French guy who killed a few DJs; and an Israeli duo who sounds more Brazilian than a Rio de Janeiro’s beach.”

Equation 1 is available now, with a release preview streamable below.

Dave Smith Instruments Reveals New Analog Synthesizer

Dave Smith Instruments has created a new synthesizer.

The REV 2 is a reimagining of Dave Smith’s classic Prophet ’08 analog synth, which hit markets roughly ten years ago. The manufacturer describes it as “the realization of our efforts to enhance and improve everything we could about the original design—all at a more accessible price.”

With the Prophet ’08 as the starting point, that synth’s key features have been carried over and expanded upon (with the same voice and Curtis filter retained). It will come in two versions—the standard 16-voice model, which doubles the polyphony of the Prophet ’08, as well as a cheaper 8-voice option. It runs on a bi-timbral operation system, meaning that independent sounds can be stacked or split. The REV 2 also features a polyphonic step-sequencer, allowing users to program up to six notes on a single step.

The REV 2’s 16-voice version is expected to retail for $1999, while the 8-voice will be for $1499. Watch the synth in action below.

Sherwood & Pinch Share New Track, ‘Lies’

Sherwood & Pinch have shared a new track.

Adrian Sherwood and Rob Ellis (a.k.a. Pinch) will put out their second full-length together next month: Man Vs. Sofa. The album will be released via a collaboration of the two artist’s individually owned imprints: Sherwood’s On-U Sound and Ellis’s Tectonic Recordings. Picking up where they left off with their 2015 debut LP, Late Night Endless, their upcoming record is packed with “technoid, insectoid and paranoid” bass beats.

This week, the duo have shared one of the album’s cuts: “Lies,” which can be streamed in full below, is a collaboration with Lee “Scratch” Perry, the Jamaican dub pioneer. On the release of the album, Ellis reflected: “Having spent around five years working together, our work flow has developed and improved considerably, and we both feel that the music we’re making now is something neither of us could or would do alone. Adrian has amassed a bunch of new (old) studio equipment over the last couple of years too, so there’s been a lot more stuff to play about with, and that’s expressed in some of the directions the tracks go in.”

Man Vs. Sofa will drop February 24. Stream “Lies” in full below.

This weekend, the 11th annual Igloofest will touch down again at the Jacques-Cartier pier in Montreal following a sold-out start last week to the event’s 375th Montreal anniversary edition. Kicking off the festivities on Friday will be Poker Flat boss Steve Bug, who is booked to play back-to-back with Josh Wink. On Saturday night, the event will continue with Correspondant label head Jennifer Cardini and the German techno pioneer Chris Liebing. For more information and tickets to any of Igloofest’s upcoming events, click here.

On Saturday night in Los Angeles, the established underground event series Incognito will return for its next edition, this time in collaboration with Dirty Epic. The two organizers have teamed up to bring Berghain resident Answer Code Request for a special 4-hour extended set; the performance will be the Ostgut Ton member’s debut in LA. For more information and tickets, head to the event’s Facebook page.

Also on Saturday night, Discwoman takes over Washington D.C’s Sequence series for a proper warehouse afterhours.
