The Newcomer Drops a Trippy New Video

Berlin-based artist The Newcomer will provide Kaleidoscope‘s first Aether Editions entry of the year.

A new project from an acclaimed artist—one with standout releases under another moniker and appearances on stages and in clubs across Europe and the US—The Newcomer joins Kaleidoscope’s impressive back catalogue; one that includes debut and early releases from some of electronic music’s most uncompromising artists, including Sculpture, Aldous RH, Karen Gwyer, Yearning Kru, Arch M, Orphan, and ALAK. Mirelet Unsette Moiyana continues the label’s penchant for releasing standout debuts, its six tracks emotionally charged trips filled with warped sound design and confounding rhythms.

At once delicate and powerful, Mirelet Unsette Moiyana relays
memories of “a powerful vision of a world; the reflection of its makers… a feeling of
true belonging.”

Ahead of the January 20 release, you can watch the fittingly hallucinatory video for album cut “Marrrd E” in full via the player below, with the album available for preorder via Kaleidoscope’s Bandcamp page.

Premiere: Stillhead Drops a Bass-Heavy Weapon

Alex Cowles (a.k.a. Stillhead) will return to his Brightest Dark Place label with his latest EP.

Spiders lands after six years, four albums, over 20 EPs, and countless remixes and appearances as DFRNT, and finds the renowned producer taking a “more meticulous approach to his Nordic-inspired, deep dub-influenced electronica.” Like much of his previous work, Spiders is full of speaker-rattling bass, inspired sampling, and deft drum programming. On Spiders, Cowles once again proves he is a master of crafting deep and haunting sonic spaces that spellbind listeners.

Ahead of the release of Spiders, you can stream the atmospheric “Cheap Thrills,” one of the standout cuts on the EP, via the player above.

W3C ‘Invasion’

Latvian producer W3C uses “online connectivity and access to wrangle all strains of electronic music and collide their respective particles into an unrecognizable, yet eerily inviting sonic edifices.” His sonic collages confront, confound, astound, and inspire in equal measure; quite simply, it’s music to move your body and mind.

W3C debuted earlier this year with the vinyl-only Atmospheric Entry EP on Pinch’s Tectonic-side-venture Cold Recordings and his latest, an EP titled State Of Absolute Alienation, will land on Infinite Machine on 12” and digital on February 24. All five tracks on the latest outing sit at the more brutal end of the sonic spectrum, they’re singular pieces of sonic artillery that reference grime, rave, and industrial, all the while keeping ahead of the curve.

Ahead of next month’s release, you can download closing cut, “Invasion” via WeTransfer below.

Gallops Reform and Drop Warped New Video

Three years on from a fist fight on stage that resulted in the group disbanding, Gallops return with the announcement of a new album and its opening track, “Darkjewel.”

According to the band, they “missed it too much, basically. Having some time away from the band gave us a fresh perspective and made us realize that Gallops still has life in it. It just needed a nap.” Now, the group return from the break with a new, revitalized sound driven by the propulsive charge of electronic music and the open-ended possibilities it affords. That isn’t to say that the band have disregarded instrumentation altogether; rather, they are used to color and shade the album’s electronic centerpiece.

The forthcoming album, Bronze Mystic, will be released on April 21 via Blood and Biscuits, and ahead of that release, you can stream the video for album cut “Darkjewel” in full below. Inspired by the “sub bass of boy racers ripping up a nearby carpark,” “Darkjewel” is a warped cut built from twisted electronics and thrilling instrumentation.

Tornado Wallace Shares New Video

Tornado Wallace‘s debut album, titled Lonely Planet, is now available on Gerd Janson‘s Running Back.

Having released on ESP Institute, Beats in Space and Music From Memory’s sister label Second Circle, Tornado Wallace’s discography to date merges a functionality with a musical playfulness. Lonely Planet, however—the accumulation of about four years of work, with tracks written in Berlin and Melbourne—sees the Australian expat leave the dancefloor behind in order to create something a little different.

With the LP already on the shelves, Tornado Wallace has now shared a video for “Today” feat. Sui Zhen, which is now streamable in full above.

Isolée Arrives on Maeve

Isolée will release a new EP on Maeve, the label run by The Drifter, Mano Le Tough, and Baikal.

The Mangroove EP came about last summer when The Drifter happened to catch Isolée’s live set at a festival in Switzerland. Instantly “blown away” by the A-side, “Pisco,” he was determined to find out what it was and if it was to be released. After chatting, Isolée suggested that he would send “Pisco” along with a couple of other “demos” to Maeve—and a few days later the EP was happening.

“Isolée has created some of the most important and beautiful records of our generation and has been a huge influence on what we do, thus we are incredibly excited and humbled to release his work,” said the label.
