30drop Announces New Album

DJ Pete), Architectural, Rivet and Zero Mass (30drop’s new collaborative project with Geistform).

The Time of Cruel Miracles is described as combining “stripped-down rhythms, sweeping pads and hypnotic bleeping sequences,” taking inspiration from the likes of Robert Hood, Jeff Mills and Terrence Dixon.

The Time of Cruel Miracles is due out March 17. Stream the first single from the album below, “Captured Rotation.”

Rob Shields ‘Water’

UK producer Rob Shields is set to release his debut album, Green, on January 27 via Needwant‘s new sister label, YEN.

The album finds Shields breaking away from the typical dancefloor template; it’s introspective music that aims to take the listener to a world of emotions and memories, real or otherwise. Shields favors warm, analog sounds on Green, sounds derived from guitars, various percussion instruments, field recordings—sources ranging from the exotic rivers and jungles in South America to the mundane objects found in Shields’ flat—and worn bits of hardware that all contribute to noticable warmth.

In support of the album, Shields has offered up “Water,” the album’s second cut, as today’s XLR8R download. With its feel-good nature and flowing instrumentation, the track is a perfect appetizer to Green—a pre-order is available via Shields’ Bandcamp page.

Shields will also be performing live at The Waiting Room in London on February 2 with details here.

Boxwork Preps Debut LP

South London’s Shades Recordings will soon release Dive Left, the first full-length offering from James Wilson (a.k.a Boxwork).

Boxwork is a producer that’s hard to pin down, and he likes it that way. Left alone in the corner with his toys, he has created an “intensely personal” record which is “at once dark and vivid, melodic, and hardbitten.”

Boxwork:

“This record is my mind represented in music. My hopes and fears, my ups and downs, committed to wax. Any part of it that I originally wrote with others in mind—be they artists, DJs or even clubgoers—got scrapped along the way, and I think that kept the record honest. That’s probably the only reason I still like it: because it feels honest.”

Dive Left is scheduled for February 24 release.

And Schmidt’s first instalment for Hivern might be his most diverse work to date. Four tracks are included with traces of techno, house, electro, and even trance—at a point.

The 12” comes wrapped in a sleeve by Barcelona-based designer Xavier Marín.

The Black Madonna Releases New Single

The Black Madonna has released a new single.

Available now via her new label, We Still Believe, “He Is the Voice I Hear” is The Black Madonna’s first new original production since 2013’s Lady Of Sorrows EP. The release was made in collaboration with her studio partner Rupert Murray, and features musicians Davide Rossi and Christoforo LaBarbera on strings and keyboard.

Of the track, The Black Madonna stated; “I have always felt, where making records was concerned, that it was better to say nothing than to rush and put out a lot of music that didn’t say much at all. But now it’s time to share something with you that has been the most exciting project I’ve ever worked on. “He Is The Voice I Hear” is my first all new work since “Lady Of Sorrows.” It’s been a long journey from there to here. I’m so thrilled to continue the story and finally realize my dream of bringing together an ensemble of live musicians.”

“He Is the Voice I Hear” is available now here, and streable in full below.

Ludodowwn ‘Polar’

Mirror/Bleach will be the debut EP from Perth-based artist Ludodowwn. The EP was produced between long night shifts as a hospital orderly, resulting in a collection of explorative music birthed from a wandering mind.

The first taste of the EP arrives in “Polar,” a cut being offered as today’s XLR8R download—one that perfectly encapsulates the young producer’s aesthetic. In the track, twisting atmospheres and maze-like synths snake around underneath Ludodowwn’s half-sung vocals, which act as a somewhat guide in the track’s complex sonic world. It’s an inspired debut from an artist that we are sure you will be hearing much more of in the near future.

You can download “Polar” via WeTransfer below ahead of the release of Mirror/Bleach.
