Stream Snippets of Julian Perez’s Debut Album

Julian Perez‘s debut album, Solemnity, is set to drop on his Fathers & Sons Productions and will be the imprint’s final release. In the four years since its inception, Fathers & Sons has housed standout material from Livio & Roby, S.A.M., Brian Harden, and, of course, Perez himself, and Solemnity is a fitting last chapter.

Spread across two 12” vinyl, Solemnity is a deep sonic journey highlighting Perez’s attention to detail and the evolution of his groove-led style. Across the album’s 11 tracks, you’ll find floating soundscapes, electro-tinged 909 beats, spaced-out club weapons, and deep, dub techno. The album’s title points to “the state of being serious and dignified,” which also relates to the artwork, sounds, and Perez’s dedication to his craft.

You can stream snippets of Solemnity via the player below, with the album available for pre-order over at Subwax Bcn.

Kiro Rox ‘Thank You (Last Night)’

Last month, Polish artist Kiro Rox returned to Sequel One Records after a four-year hiatus with his debut album, Hidden Sorrow. In the years since his first EP, Back To Step, dropped on the label, Rox has worked on his sound, crafting it to a point where it made sense to dive into the album format.

With bass music as its foremost touchstone, Hidden Sorrow traverses through a range of atmospheres and feelings, from beatless opener, “2010,” to the pensive, Burial-esque “My Light” and the slow-mo drum & bass closer, “Thank You (Last Night).” With his step into the world of the full-length, Rox takes his time and lets a different side of his music shine through; it’s an emotive collection that leaves just enough space for the listener’s interpretation.

Hidden Sorrow is available now as a CD package or digitally via Sequel One’s Bandcamp page. In support of the beautiful LP, Rox and Sequel One have offered up the album’s closing track as today’s XLR8R download, available via WeTransfer below, along with a preview of the album.

Thank You (Last Night)

Vote Now in XLR8R’s Best of 2016 Readers’ Poll

Now that 2016 is coming to a close, it’s once again time for XLR8R to open up the voting for our annual XLR8R Readers’ Poll. From yesterday, we began revealing our choices for the Best of 2016 year-end recap, compiling our favorite tracks, releases, labels, new artists, downloads, and XLR8R podcasts. The readers poll is an opportunity for us to open our pages to our readership to vote for their favorite music and artists of the year. We would like to encourage everyone in the XLR8R audience to cast a vote and check back for the results.

There are seven separate categories in which people can vote for their favorite of 2016: release, track, new artist, DJ, festival, label, and podcast.

Voters can make one selection in each category, and casting more than one ballot is not permitted.

XLR8R’s Best of 2016: Top Downloads (50-1)

Yesterday we began XLR8R‘s Best of 2016 coverage with the first installment (100-51 to be exact) of the top 100 downloads. Amongst the first 50 tracks announced were a diverse assortment of forward-thinking cuts that were given to you, our readers, every day of the past year. Today, we tie a ribbon around the year in downloads and detail the 50 most popular tracks that have appeared on XLR8R‘s downloads section.

As is usually the case with our download offerings, some of the artists presented have never before released a track, unknown artists putting their first track out in the world; on the other hand, you’ll also find scene veterans dropping left-field reworks and twisted ambient versions of well-known cuts. Whichever tickles your fancy, there’s no denying the quality of tracks on offer below, and thanks must go to the myriad of artists that have offered up their musical lifeblood for free for our enjoyment. With that, it’s time to announce the final 50 in the Best of 2016: Top 100 Downloads.

Like yesterday, you can follow each respective link to cherry pick your choice of single tracks; or, as our holiday offering to you, you can grab the entire top 100 in one zip folder, available via WeTransfer below.

Vermona Launches Limited Edition Analog Synthesiser

A new Vermona analog monophonic synthesiser is now available for purchase.

The Vermona ’14 Analogsynthesizer has been a work in progress for over 12 months, but is finally ready to purchase. Numbers, however, are limited to just 222 units.

The product aims to create a “an uncompromising synthesizer for instrumentalists,” and is the only keyboard-based synth available from Vermona.

By blending sound design capabilities with a keyboard interface that is conducive to traditional playing styles, the brand claims to have created an “equality of haptics and sound.”

The components are based upon the circuits for its PERfourMER MKII and Mono Lancet ’15 synths, but have been “adapted and refined” for the new model.

The hand-built synth also features pitch and modulation wheels together with a built-in arpeggiator.

The Vermona 14 Analogsynthesizer is available now for €2,400, with more information available here.

Dekmantel Announces Young Marco ‘Selectors’ Compilation

Young Marco is next up in the Dekmantel Selectors compilation series—its second instalment.

After a successful first edition of Dekmantel Selectors and a compilation put together by Motor City Drum Ensemble, it’s Young Marco’s turn to present his unique selection of tracks on a double LP and CD, which will drop the February 27, 2017.

Young Marco (a.k.a. Marco Sterk) certainly doesn’t come from a standard DJ background. Growing up, he was a skater who loved American post-hardcore and ’90s hip-hop as much as early Warp Records. Although he’s been affiliated over the years with Amsterdam institutions such as Rush Hour and Red Light Records, he’s always followed his own path. Now, years later, Young Marco finds himself regularly playing around the globe and has been widely hailed for his digging prowess and uncanny ability to pluck jams out of genres, eras and geographies that even veteran DJs will often ignore.

Tracklisting:

A1 Danny Boy “Diskomix” (Disko Version)
A2 Gerrit Hoekema “Televisiewereld”
A3 Ghostwriters “Swizzle”
B1 Larry Heard “Dolphin Dream”
B2 Wolf Müller “Pfad Des Windes”
C1 The Force Dimension “200 FA” (Extended Mix)
C2 Frank Youngwerth “Whirr” (Original Mix)
C3 Greene Baize “Spick and Span”
D1 Ray Tracing “Mariopaint”
D2 Personal FX “Objects In Mirrors”

Young Marco’s Dekmantel Selectors will drop on February 27, with a sampler streamable below.
