Michael Klein ‘In Focus’ (Original Mix)

Michael Klein is known from recent releases on Pan-Pot‘s Second State—having released two EPs on the label in 2015 and 2016. Since these 12″s, he has ventured into his own world with his new imprint, titled BLK DRP.

With BLK DRP, Klein wants to showcase his passion for the sounds of the underground while supporting each release with a feature of remixes and collaborations with artists who are inspiring him. He debuts the label dubby and dark techno piece called Signal Response, which sees Belgian talent Amelie Lens on remix duties.

The B side, “In Focus” is defined by trippy stabs running on a broken beat, and LA-based production duo Raiz transform this into the sort of cut that they’ve become so known for.

Tracklisting:

01. Signal Response (Original Mix)
02. Signal Response (Amelie Lens remix)
03. In Focus (Original Mix)
04. In Focus (Raíz remix)

Signal Response is scheduled for December 8 release, with “In Focus” (Original Mix) available to download via the button below.

Letters and Numbers will be iO’s second outing on Apollonia this year, following on from his debut on the label, To The Unknown, as well as releases on Overall Music and Memoria Recordings, and his work as MOi—a side project that has dropped three EPs in 2016 alone.

Ahead of the December 9 release, which can be pre-ordered here, you can stream the deep and seductive “mpc13” in full via the player above.

Watch a New Video from Demian Licht

Following on from April’s Female Criminals Vol. 1 EP, a project that explored the power of the female mind, Demian Licht presents the video for EP cut “Domina.”

Directed by Licht, the video was filmed around Berlin’s imposing Soviet War Memorial and aims to explore the different connotations of the Latin word ‘domina,’ which means mistress / female. The video is beautifully shot and cut and perfectly compliments the stern minimalism of the track.

Next up for Licht, on December 13, will be the release of Female Criminals Vol. 1 Remixed, an EP in which Licht recruited four Latin American producers to remix and reinterpret her work.

You can watch the video for “Domina” in full below, with Female Criminals Vol. 1 and its remix EP available via Motus Records Bandcamp.

Download a New Mix from Luc Ringeisen

Luc Ringeisen has shared a new mix, available for download below.

Having been born in France—where he received musical education from the National Conservatory and experienced the explosion of techno music in Europe during the mid ’90’s—Ringeisen began to produce music and play records in Ibiza, Spain. In 2003, he founded the Vinyl Club record shop, which has played an important part in the spreading of new styles across the island over the course of the past decade. Following on from this, he took his first steps as a club DJ at Space Ibiza back in 2004 with a Friday night residency. He went on to play in the majority of the most of the main Ibiza clubs before finding his home as a DJ at Ibiza Underground. In 2007, he had his first gigs at DC10.

Today, Ringeisen is now based in Berlin, having relocated to the German capital when vinyl sales began to decrease with the rise of digital formats. From there he runs his Vinyl Club Recordings label and spends as much time in the studio—when he is not DJing. He also shares a residency with DeWalta at Club Der Visionaere, and also runs the VCR-AGENCY, a booking and artist management agency for his friends.

Available to download below is a two-hour studio mix made up of music that Ringeisen can be found playing out today.

“As in all my mixes, I am mixing together records of very different styles but I make them fit in a way to give a sense to the overall session, I guess that’s an important thing in my DJing. So this style—which I hope to be my own—comes from a mix of records from very different backgrounds and genres, so it all relies on the way I mix them together to create an unique and flowing musical world.

The mix also shows how I love to use the ‘DJ Tools’ I am preparing in the studio to be played in DJ sets. The sessions are most of the time, like this one, made with a lot of my (and my team’s and friends’) latest studio works. I try to share in equal parts my work between studio production and record digging. Again, everything is topped with a lot of self made DT tools such as synths loop, percussion loops, acapellas, synths shots, etc..

Fire Devastates California Warehouse Party

A warehouse party in Oakland, California last Friday was devastated by a deadly blaze.

At least 33 people were left dead by the fire and many more are still missing (according to a report by The New York Timesyesterday). As many as 40 are reportedly feared dead by the local Sheriff. Rescue workers spent the weekend searching through debris and many more are still unaccounted for. Sergeant Ray Kelly of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office was quoted as saying that they “will be here for days and days to come.”

The event was at a warehouse known as The Ghost Ship, a building also used as a studio and creative space for artists. The hosts were local imprint 100% Silk, featuring Golden Donna on his west coast tour. Two of the label’s artists are still unaccounted for—Chelsea Faith Dolan (a.k.a. Cherushii) and Johnny Igaz (a.k.a. Nackt).

Speaking to L.A. Weeklyabout the disaster, label co-founder Amanda Brown described the aftermath as being “the worst day” in her and partner Britt Brown’s “entire music-making lives.”

There has been a split reaction, with certain reports casting blame on the residents of the building, who had apparently failed to meet basic fire-safety requirements, and other reports putting the fault on the long-term affordability crisis and the state’s failure to protect the most vulnerable.

A criminal investigation has been launched. More news to follow.

Agoria ‘Up All Night’ (Gerd Janson Dub Remix)

At the end of last month, Agoria inaugurated his new imprint Sapiens with his Up All NightEP. The five-track EP featured two melodically-rich versions of the title track by Agoria himself, alongside a remix by Get Physical artist Eagles & Butterflies and two edits from Running Back head Gerd Janson.

Sapiens looks to turn the traditional idea of a record label on its head; taking an open-minded artistic approach, it will look to musicians, visual artists, film directors, sound designers, and even shamans, with releases as diverse as “political speeches, radio hits, dancefloor tunes, sensorial or cognitive music, or a gentle computer virus.”

In support of the label launch, Agoria and Sapiens have offered up Gerd Janson’s dub remix as one of today’s XLR8R downloads. For his take on “Up All Night,” Janson opts for thumping, groove-led drums, piercing synths, and rattling snare rolls to provide the EP’s heaviest rework.

You can download the track via WeTransfer below, with the full EP available here.
