DJ Raff ‘Completed’

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Two years ago, Santiago-based DJ Raff started the Pirotecnia imprint with his wife Dalal to push, promote, and release the unique music stylings emanating out of Chile’s underground, as he explains: “Pirotecnia was born out of a need to support the growth of electronic music in Latin America and bring our sounds to various places on the planet. In Chile, there’s an active and creative electronic scene that continually grows stronger and we don’t want anyone to miss out on what’s happening here.”

The label’s latest compilation is Pirotecnia Vol. 2, which will be released in collaboration with Nacional Records on November 18. Featuring nine artists across 10 tracks, the compilation is a diverse and brilliantly executed release that gives the world an exciting taste of Chile’s emerging scene.

Watch a Video on Techno’s History and Creating a Track in Ableton

Back in August, Point Blank launched its Style Guide series with James Wiltshire that explores the origins, tools, and techniques of electronic music’s core genres.

The latest installment focuses on techno, a style which combined the avant-garde electronica that was coming out of Europe in the early ‘70s and ‘80s with the electric funk and post-disco beamed from Detroit’s underground radio stations. Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson were the key artists at the helm of the new genre and began to create what is now known as Detroit techno.

In addition to charting the history, James Wiltshire also provides knowledge on techno’s sound design techniques and crafting a track in Ableton live.

You can watch the two-part installment via the players below, with more on Point Blank and its courses here.

Nit ‘Frequentations Modulantes’

Nit is a young producer from Paris, France who will release his debut EP, Dessous de Plage in January on Mutant Ninja.

A self-confessed synthesizer obsessive, Nit’s music is an intriguing mix of disco and electro-funk that is directly influenced by library music and French movie soundtracks of the ’70s. Keeping the EP planted in that decade, the cover artwork is a picture of a heatproof mat (‘dessous de plat’) from the ’70s that Nit found in a country house on his journeys.

To give you a taste of what’s to come, you can download EP cut “Frequentations Modulantes” in full via WeTransfer below.

Matrixxman Remixes Simian Mobile Disco

Simian Mobile Disco have released a new two-track EP.

Laughing In The Face Of Block is the fourth and final chapter of Simian Mobile Disco’s 2016 Delicacies EP series. Over the course of the year, the electronic duo of James Ford and James Shaw have released three other EPs via their own label (of the same name). Later this year, the original cuts from each of them will be collected up on forthcoming LP Welcome To Sideways.

As a final curveball in the series, minimal techno two-tracker Laughing In The Face Of Block (which features a remix by Matrixxman)will be a standalone EP, exempt from featuring on the album. The duo explained: “It didn’t quite fit in with the flow of the track selection on the album, and we felt it really warranted it’s own separate release, particularly because of the ace Matrixxman remix.”

Laughing In The Face Of Block is available to purchase now. Buy it at Phonica and stream the EP in full below.

01. Laughing In The Face Of Block
02. Laughing In The Face Of Block (Matrixxman’s LSD Rework)

Tabernacle Drops New Head Front Panel EPs

Two new Head Front Panel EPs are on the way.

Tabernacle Records sub-label Head Front Panel was established back in 2014 as a platform for full-frontal, raw techno productions. To date, it has put out ten releases; originally believed to be the work of various anonymous artists, it was revealed last year that Liverpool’s John Heckle was the mastermind behind them all.

After a small break, the series returns this November with a pair of new EPS. Both embody the lively, old-school spirit of previous releases.

HFP#011 and HFP#012 are available to pre-order at the Tabernacle store now—50 copies of each EP are available from there, shipping November 7. More stock will hit other stores later. Stream snippets from both of the EPs below.
