Sebastian Carter ‘Chrome’

Brighton-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Sebastian Carter dropped his debut EP, City Lights, today. Across its six tracks, Carter weaves together an alluring story themed around nature vs the city. It’s an EP of cinematic beauty, with Carter’s pristine production backed up by vocalists Atonal, Tosca Singer, and Julia Church. If ethereal atmospheres and effortless beats are your thing, you’ll find much to love within City Lights.

To celebrate the EP release, Carter has offered up a previously unreleased cut “Chrome” as today’s XLR8R download. It’s a perfect introduction to Carter’s sonic universe for those uninitiated; and for his fans, a welcome addition to their collection. Like the EP, “Chrome” is an exquisite production with shimmering synths and groove-filled beats. You can download “Chrome” via WeTransfer below, with the EP available to listen to on Spotify below.

Ryan James Ford Launches New Label

Canadian producer Ryan James Ford launches SHUT today with the release of Stone Mountain Red.

The label’s first EP will follow Ford’s releases on Marcel Dettmann‘s MDR and Answer Code Request‘s label with four tracks inspired by “years driving around on LSD listening to Goldie, Claude Young, and Autechre.” All of Ford’s hallmarks are there, namely strong UK influences, trippy melodic structures and dusty, stripped-back rhythms.

Stone Mountain Red is distributed by Hardwax and available at the popular Berlin institution from today. You can hear snippets of all four cuts via the player below.

Archie Hamilton Debuts on Be Chosen

London’s Archie Hamilton will release a two-tracker on Be Chosen.

Joining the roster of artists that includes Reboot,Sascha Dive and Robert Dietz, Hamilton delivers a balanced record for the Autumn months.

The record opens with “Shake,” a tough and groovy club track with a catchy vocal, airy pads and a hooky flute sample. The track switches up halfway through adding a squelchy bass lead. On the flip, the electro-acid bassline of “The Message” works in conjunction with lush chords and organic percussion. This feeling only lasts for so long, however, as the pads are removed in the breakdown, the bass comes forward and the whole track is stripped back to it’s most driving elements.

Tracklisting:

01. Shake
02. The Message

In advance of the EP’s September 26 release, “Shake” is streamable in full below.

Watch New Powell Video

Powell has shared a video for his track “Jonny (feat. Jonny).”

The footage, which was crowdsourced from fans of the British producer, features clips of watermelons being smashed over their heads and various other surfaces. The idea was inspired by Powell’s NTS show, Melon Magic. The video also contains some clips of Diagonal‘s fifth anniversary tour of North America.

“Jonny (feat. Jonny)” (which has Jonnine Stadish of HTRK on vocals) is lifted from Powell’s upcoming album, Sport, which will drop on XL Recordings this October. Pre-order the album at the XL store.

Warp Reissues First Three Autechre Albums

Autechre‘s first three vinyl LPs will be available to buy again from November.

Sean Booth and Rob Brown (a.k.a. Autechre) properly established themselves via their first few albums on Warp RecordsIncunabula, Amber and Tri Repetae, records that were each released a year apart between ’93-’95. The first two are generally regarded as being a more melodic take on IDM and ambient music, before the British duo began to reject those more familiar sounds on Tri Repetae, pursuing a darker, more experimental route.

The trio of albums, which have been unavailable to purchase on wax since 2001, “reveal the geometry of the duo’s early transcripts from post-acid house electronica through sparse, hypnotic ambience and into the b-boy flavour that characterised their mid-nineties excavations of jungle, industrial and hip-hop,” according to the imprint.

IncunabulaAmber and Tri Repetae will be available to purchase on November 11. Pre-order the albums at Bleep.

Steve Bicknell Returns with New Label

DJ-producer Steve Bicknell—co-founder of the Lost London club night—is set to return to the fray with the Modes of Thought EP.

Comprising three full tracks and six locked groove loops, the record also represents the debut release on Bicknell’s brand new label, 6dimensions. Future releases will come from Metro Skim, The Evader, as well as more material from Bicknell himself.

Outlining the concept behind the new label, Bicknell describes 6dimensions as an exploration into balance and imbalance of the human mind’s natural make-up, love, fear, joy, hatred, boredom and sexuality. Envisioning it in terms of a wider platform than a mere label, 6dimensions has been set up as “an outlet for creatives, a platform for expression without boundaries, presented and revisited in various creative mediums whether that be music, installations, events, audio stories, soundscapes, field recordings, visual art, performance, etc.” It will be a place where “each creative can question their own or other’s dimensions, focus on balance and imbalance, question the conscious and subconscious, fully immerse themselves to create from within by following feelings rather than the mind, evading what can be known as misguided teachings.”

Tracklisting;

A1 / 1. Harmonious Balance
A2 / 2. The Moment I Stopped
B1 / 3. Messenger Molecules
B2 / 4. Behaviour Patterns – Lock 1
B3 / 5. Behaviour Patterns – Lock 2
B4 / 6. Behaviour Patterns – Lock 3
B6 / 7. Early Warning – Lock 1

Modes of Thought EP is scheduled for November 11 release.

Second Storey & Appleblim Return to R&S

Second Storey & Appleblim will return to R&S for the Gimme 6 EP.

Since their initial forays in 2015 on the label in the form of a trio of EPs and a compilation, the duo have gone on to refine and distill their bass alchemy to reach new creative heights.

This new EP is the fruit of that hard work—opener, and title track “Gimme 6” sees swooping pads soon give way to slurping twisted bass and mechanistic hi hats. “Levying Rooks” injects a sense of frenetic levity—serrated bass and scudding percussion, while “Aperture” is drenched in swooning pads and fizzing, flanged out hats underpinned by relentless mutant kicks.

Too often modern electronic club music is all too content to sit heavily within genre boundaries, and ‘rules’—but SS&A’s gleeful disregard for categorisation and innate sense of melody, harmony and rhythm makes their offerings an antidote to the jaded veteran techno fans as well as the gleeful new jacks.

Tracklisting:

01. Gimme 6
02. Levying Rooks
03. Aperture

Gimme 6 EP will be released November 4 in vinyl and digital formats.
