Man Power Launches Label With New Single; Hear it Now

UK-raised Mexico-based artist Man Power will launch his first label, Me Me Me, with the “Tachyon” single on October 14.

The single arrives backed by a remix from DJ Tennis, a natural fit for Man Power’s tripped-out sound. Following the release of the first single, Me Me Me has lined up releases from an enticing list of artists such as Axel Boman, Red Axes, Mike Simonetti, Chida, Fort Romeau, Hammer, Rex The Dog, Daniel Maloso, Last Waltz, James Hadfield (as Elizabeth Collective), and, of course, the label head himself.

“Tachyon” will be out officially on October 14 and in the meantime, you can stream the cut in full below.

And.rea Perception of Objective Reality

Andrea La Pietra’s arrival on the scene will be enough to turn some aging house-heads green. The young Italian, better known as And.rea, has not long been old enough to actually step foot into a club, yet he’s already racked up bookings across Europe, and now stuck one release under his belt—the third record on Vera and Alexandra’s Melliflow imprint.

The eight confident tunes on Perception of Objective Reality make for an emphatic debut. Evidently influenced by his elders, La Pietra’s style is a regurgitation of the kind of material you’ll hear from selectors like Francesco del Garda, blending elements of house, garage, electro and more; his perception of the scene’s reality.

The EP’s sound is consistent throughout, showing off an already well-honed production style. A healthy proportion of it is straight-up, archetypal house music: “Mutual Attraction” and “15 Ways To Make A Record” both share foundations in chunky kicks, dusted off by warm pads and silky keys. Opener “Low Connection” is more energetic, bringing together the weirdness of early Morgan Geist with a UK tech-house pulse (a tempo raised further yet with the taut funk of “Microcosm”).

The other half of the EP roams deeper into a realm of more unconventional sounds. “Bubble Motion” shifts from pumping breaks into a swift four-to-the-floor beat—a trick that La Pietra also employs in the noisier “Why On Earth,” a chaotic, freaky bleep tune. It’s when he preserves the broken beats throughout “Tape Rewind” that he really strikes on some gold: cool drums roll out under a vocal lifted from Mike & Charlie‘s classic “I Get Live,” the occasional scratch and a few off-key piano stabs, in one of the double pack’s finer moments. It’s the work of a youngster with skill beyond his years and a natural flair for the genre—a welcome addition to the incipient Melliflow catalog, which grows more impressive with every release.

Perception of Objective Reality is expected to hit stores October 3. Pre-order it at Juno.

A1. Low Connection
A2. 15 Ways To Make A Record
B1. Microcosm
B2. Monday To Sunday

Hidden Turn ‘Passing’ (feat. SEO)

Hidden Turn is a reclusive producer originally from Manchester and now based in Brazil. With a modest set of releases to his name—four EPs have been released under Hidden Turn since 2012—it’s easy to see that Hidden Turn favors quality over quantity. The latest release to drop is his debut album, The Ride, which will see Hidden Turn return to Doc Scott‘s label 31 Recordings with 12 tracks described by the label as “kinda dnb, kinda not, but we like it.”

The Ride was released on September 23 and to celebrate, 31 Recordings and Hidden Turn have offered up LP cut “Passing” (feat. SEO) as today’s XLR8R download. Like the rest of the album, it’s hard to classify: with a skeletal framework and a bass-heavy groove, it moves through warped atmospheres and menacing vocals from SEO.

You can download “Passing” (feat. SEO) via WeTransfer below, with the album available for purchase over at the 31 Recordings store.

San Francisco-based Charles M. Duff (a.k.a. Matrixxman) first released on the Dutch imprint back in 2014; he now returns with three new EPs. The trilogy was produced with a concept in mind—”to explore the range within the confines of a particular limitation.”

First up is Sector I: Rhythm, a four track “exercise in rhythm.” The remaining parts of the trio are based around Acid and Polysynthesis (which was produced with little more than “an analog keyboard or two”).

Sector I: Rhythm is scheduled for release October 24. Pre-order it here. More information on Sector II and Sector III will follow.
