Neuropol “Overtron”

Coming from a history that was drenched in hip-hop culture and underground drum and bass, Bristol-based producer Neuropol never stopped looking for his next artistic inspiration. Stemming from this enthusiasm came a unique blend of dub production that is full of excitement while also being delicate and straight-forward. Package that motivation together with a reputation that is immersed in turntablism, and it becomes clear how Neuropol’s seamless approach to DJing and production helps to draw in fans from a wide variety of genre backgrounds.

Now on November 20, Neuropol will be the first artist to release on Cosmic Bridge’s new digitial imprint CBD, which was created to expose artists in a more direct way to the ever-shifting musical landscape. Neuropol’s new EP Innermost features four tracks, and includes a remix by label head Om Unit and a track featuring Marlene Abuah. To honor the formation of this new label and celebrate the first release on CBD, Neuropol has decided to offer up an exclusive track for download that you can only get find on XLR8R. The track is called “Overtron,” and simply put the track is dramatic dub and bass at its finest.

“Overtron” has no problem conjuring up feelings of internalized struggle through its vocal hook, yet the underlying piano and drum pattern add an uplifting element to the track that brings the song around full circle. Time Warp US Announce Set-Times and Location Change

The long-running and beloved German techno festival, Time Warp, will be returning to the United States for a two-day indoor event in New York City for its second year. Boasting a eye-catching lineup, the festival has just announced the various set times for the upcoming event, which will take place on November 20 -21.

Originally planning on throwing the event at the historic Bedford Armory in Brooklyn, the festival had recently received a great deal of pushback from local communities in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights who are concerned that Time Warp and its many attendees will cause overall quality of life issues within the neighborhood. The other day, Time Warp announced on its Facebook page that the location would be moving back to the 39th Street Pier and will take place in the original warehouse space used for the first edition of Time Warp US.

Carl Craig, M.A.N.D.Y. and Lake People to Play Audiofly’s Flying Circus NYE

For over eight years, Luca Saporito and Anthony Middleton (aka Audiofly) have traveled down to the tropical waters in Mexico to celebrate their annual NYE party, Flying Circus. The party has consistently helped people ring in the new year with harmonious vibes and a great deal of pleasure, while providing astounding soundtracks from artists like Nicolas Jaar, dOP, Matthew Dear, Heidi, DJ Tennis, Guy Gerber, Blond:ish, and Martin Buttrich.

Having taken place in Tulum, Mexico last year, Flying Circus will return to Playa Del Carmen to revel in the stunning environment that is Cabinal Royal Beach Club. This year’s lineup features a huge list of eye-catching artists like Carl Craig, Lake People M.A.N.D.Y., Flying Circus residents Dance Spirit and Mia Lucci, and, of course, the hosts themselves, Audiofly.

XLR8R TV: ADE – Amsterdam Dance Event 2015

Not many events in electronic music can lay claim to a 20-year anniversary. The fickle nature of the industry, the fast-changing interests of the fans, and the constant struggle against the powers that be are all factors in the shelf life of a party or event, whether big or small, and it’s an achievement to reach one year, let alone 20. And although it’s the biggest club-based festival in the world, with a very wide scope of genres and artists, ADE has somehow managed to keep an inclusive and intimate vibe throughout—niche label showcases sit next to informative conferences and bigger-than-big indoor festivals in a flawlessly produced ecosystem of audio and visual stimulus.

For five days, XLR8R immersed itself in the nighttime festivities—which takes place in 80 clubs and venues—to give you a glimpse into the inspiring and energizing playground that is Amsterdam Dance Event.

Fundraising Started for Techno Museum in Berlin

“I will call it the Living Archive of Electronica because techno here in Berlin is still a living, inspiring and vivid movement.” – Dimitri Hegemann

Dimitri Hegemann, the founder of one of Germany’s most infamous clubs/labels, Tresor, has announced that he has started in raising the funds for a techno museum in Berlin, the techno capital of the world. The museum, which will pay tribute to electronic music as a distinct cultural movement, is planning on opening its doors on a date that coincides with Tresor’s twenty-fifth anniversary in Autumn of 2016.

This will be the second electronic music museum that is set to open in Germany after the city of Frankfurt announced that they will be opening MOMEN (Museum of Modern Electronic Music) in 2017. Both projects are still early on in their various stages of development and it is uncertain if the fundraising will be successful. Above all else, these museum plans show the level of dedication that Germans have for their techno and various forms of electronica, taking steps towards creating a space that will monumentalize this truly special form of music forever.

Tessela Previews New EP

London-based producer Tessela appears to have a new record on the way. Previews surfaced on SoundCloud today of a two-track affair entitled “Luv Mix” b/w “Tenner Eclipse.” This is only the second proper entry into the discography of Poly Kicks, the label he runs with his brother, Truss; the last release came in the form of Tessela’s Hackney Parrot 12″ in 2013. Both new tracks feature Tessela’s signature broken-drum programming and harken back to the early days of UK rave. Alex Smoke Announces New Album; Stream a Track Here

Following his hallucinogenic dancefloor EPs, Dust and Green Man, for R&S, Alex Menzies returns with a new album under his Alex Smoke moniker, entitled Love Over Will. As with his 2011 release under the Wraetlic guise, Love Over Will sees Menzies create a palette of otherworldly strings, distortion, clicks and synths which act as a bed for his voice.

“The human voice is the ultimate transducer of emotion,” he explains. “I feel it, I sing it, the listener hears it, the listener feels it. Even the slightest vocal can carry a heavy emotional current. Adding words is creating another layer of meaning again, sometimes altering, sometimes reinforcing the intrinsic feeling of the music.”

The title, Love Over Will, is a play on “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. Love is the law, love under will” — central tenet of Thelema, created by famed occultist and ceremonial magician, Aleister Crowley. The central thread of the album is meant to be “a statement on the times we are living in, but with an optimism relating to ways forward that are possible.” Menzies’ work has also been informed by his ongoing installation work with artist Florence To, primarily on the links between sound and spirituality.

Alex has written a quote about the artwork, as above:

“Finlay McKay is an old friend and a high-end photographer. I gave him the album, the title and some background and gave him free rein to come up with the image. The album title relates to Thelema, Crowley’s religion for the new age, and Fin’s artwork has clear links to magical thinking. The use of nudity also has something to say of our attitudes towards it. Why should nudity and sexuality be shameful, whilst someone being graphically murdered is considered ok? The artwork is a response to the album but also chimes perfectly with the age we live in.”

Aboutface “The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding (Paul Valentin Remix)”

Aboutface is a composer, live performer and DJ hailing from the foggy depths of East London. Aboutface is also the second artist to be featured on Amirali’s newly founded label, Dark Matters. The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding, which was released on vinyl back in September, just saw the digital version drop via Beatport on November 2.

Drawing upon both sociological and environmental landscapes as creative inspiration, Aboutface uses their background in fine art and painting to help inform their musical productions. The last three years of Aboutface‘s music has been inspired by a journey through Eastern Europe and traveling alongside the coastal regions of the UK. Aboutface‘s songs make use of environmental field recordings, using a different region or city as the creative starting point for each of their productions. The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding EP is made up of three tracks, with the original title track receiving an exclusive remix by Cologne’s Paul Valentin that is both is meandering, laid back, and only available on XLR8R.

The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding (Paul Valentin Remix)

Shaun J. Wright & Alinka “The Love Divine”

Back in October of 2014, Shaun J. Wright & Alinka launched a brand new imprint out of Chicago called Twirl. The duo used this label as a platform for releasing their own collaborative productions and have since received support from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac and Heidi, Kenny Glasgow, Ralph Lawson, Gorgon City and KiNK.

October 2015 saw the duo offer up an exclusive remix package in the shape of Twirl Exclusives Vol.1, featuring remixes from the likes of Luke Solomon, Joshua Iz, Eli Escobar and more. The last track off Twirl Exclusives Vol.1 is a new original from Shaun J. Wright & Alinka titled ‘The Love Divine,” and in typical fashion the team produced a track with infectious bass hooks, catchy vocal licks and low-slung drums. Normally you would have to go online and fork out some cash for original productions of this quality, but thanks to the generosity of Shaun and Alinka you can find this stellar track for free right here on XLR8R.
