Jamie xx to Release Debut Album

Jamie xx has revealed plans to release In Colour, his debut solo album, in June. The news originated in a cover story in Mixmag, which was then flagged up by Gorilla vs Bear. The forthcoming LP is set to feature previously released Jamie xx productions “Sleep Sound” and “Girl,” as well as a number of new songs including ones titled “Gosh,” “Loud Places,” and “Seesaw.” The forthcoming LP will also include collaborations with Four Tet and Romy Madley Croft of The xx.

The Young Turks label will release In Colour in June; more details are expected to arrive in the weeks ahead, but in the meantime, both “Sleep Sound” and “Girl” can be revisited below.

Listen to a New Track from Matthew Herbert’s Upcoming Album

As we reported last week, Matthew Herbert will release a new album entitled The Shakes in May. With that news, the UK producer shared a video for the record’s lead lead single “Middle,” and now he has shared a second track/video from the LP. The gentle, vocal-led “Battle,” and its odd, parking lot-based video, can be streamed below prior to the release of Herbert’s The Shakes LP on May 29 via Caroline International.

Stream the Lead Track from Adesse Versions’ Upcoming 12″ for Numbers

If you’ve heard Jackmaster play in the last few months, then chances are you’ll have heard a so-far unreleased nugget that blends a jaw-droppingly powerful and charismatic female vocal into a simple-but-effective brew of discordant piano notes, rolling subs, space echo, and clicking drums. Until now the identity of the track’s producer has been something of a secret, but the Numbers label has today revealed it to be none other than Adesse Versions. The Glasgow label will duly release Adesse Versions’ “Pride” on a 12″ of the same name on March 31, and ahead of that the label has shared a full stream of the record’s title track, which can be found below along with the upcoming record’s complete tracklist.

Adesse Versions, and presumably a rather prominent airing for “Pride”, can also be heard on Numbers’ home turf of Glasgow this Saturday when he guests at the Notsosilent party (which—in the interest of full disclosure—we should point out is partially run by XLR8R contributor Ray Philp) at La Cheetah.

Cumeo Project “On the Surface of the Sea”

Stateside label Shoeboxx is reaching far outside of its Denver roots for the imprint’s next release, the Promised Land EP from Seoul-based production duo Cumeo Project. On EP cut “On the Surface of the Sea,” the pair puts together a brisk electronic excursion, one filled with sweeping chords and topped off by a revolving series of airy melodic adornments—the reverb-bathed tom fills that join the track’s final push are a nice touch too. The Korean outfit’s Promised Land EP will see its official release on April 7; in the meantime, Cumeo Project’s “On the Surface of the Sea” production can be grabbed below.

Paula Temple, Oni Ayhun, Planningtorock, and rRoxymore Collaborate on Upcoming EP for Noise Manifesto

Berlin-based English producer Paula Temple has announced the details of a new release from her Noise Manifesto imprint. The high-concept Decon/Recon project is intended to explore a new way of remixing that takes “the hierarchy between the original artist and remixer” found in traditional remixes out of the equation, instead “placing all remixers and composers of parts on equal footing and as part of a composing collective.” To that end, the project includes four contributors; on Decon/Recon #1 these are Oni Ayhun (an alias of The Knife co-founder Olof Dreijer), Jam Rostron (a.k.a. Planningtorock) appearing under her new Aquarian Jugs alias, rRoxymore, and Temple herself appearing under her Jaguar Woman alias. For the release, each artist has contributed components of a track into a common archive, and then have worked together to “reconstruct” the parts into individual productions.

The resulting tracks will then be presented without noting who was responsible for each one, in order to, as the press release explains, “put identity into a crisis by giving a collective authoriality.” Decon/Recon will also involve a few showcase events, with all four artists appearing together on April 30 at the Donau Festival in Austria, and then again on June 19 at Arena in Berlin. Noise Manifesto will release Decon/Recon #1 on April 20 in limited-edition vinyl and digital formats; in the meantime, the EP’s artwork, tracklist, and a stream can be found below.

Steve Huerta “RomComCrime (Huerta’s ReDub)”

Earlier this month, London’s Needwant label issued the second volume in its mixed compilation series, TRAXX. Enlisting previously released works from the likes of HNNY, Bicep, Dusky, and Urulu, among others, in its run, the 16-track collection also included a handful of exclusive new productions, including one from Berlin transplant Steve Huerta. A former Los Angeles resident, Huerta’s “RomComCrime” track serves as the mix’s closing effort, and here—appearing in its “ReDub” form—the tune takes shapes as a deep, rolling house affair, one streaked with dubby, aqua-tinged chords and held together by an active sub-bassline.

FKA Twigs Drops Video for New Track, “Glass & Patron”

FKA Twigs has maintained a rather busy tour schedule since dropping her debut full-length album, LP1, via Young Turks last year. It would seem that the London artist has also been able to fit in a good deal of studio time between her extensive travels as she has announced plans to release a new EP later this year which will include a new production entitled “Glass & Patron.”

While few details have emerged for FKA Twigs’ new EP (other than that it is forthcoming), a video for the record’s lead single, “Glass & Patron” has surfaced today. Directed by FKA Twigs, the provocative track’s visual accompaniment includes a slew of colorful ensembles, a runway in the woods, and a new glimpse at the artist’s unique—at times almost otherworldly—dance moves. Presented as part of the YouTube Music Awards, the full video for “Glass & Patron” can be watched below.

Premiere: Stream a New Single from Maribou State’s Upcoming Debut LP

This June, ascendant London pair Maribou State will release its debut long-player, Portraits, via the Counter imprint (an offshoot of Ninja Tune). After sharing the record’s lead single, “Rituals,” a few weeks back, the production outfit has returned with its forthcoming LP’s second single, “Raincoats.”

Spanning just under five minutes, “Raincoats” finds Maribou State keen to continue fusing together the worlds of emotive electronic production and live instrumentation, as rising organ chords and reverberant guitar lines are met by re-pitched vocal samples and sparse, marching rhythms. Throughout the track, the pair also builds rich layers of sonic atmosphere which help give “Raincoats” a hypnotic feel, even as its drum work picks up the pace in the tune’s second half.

Maribou State’s Portraits LP is slated to arrive on June 1 via the Counter label; in the meantime, album cut “Raincoats” is streaming in full below (“Raincoats” is also available on the duo’s Rituals 12″, out today). In addition, the dates for the pair’s upcoming North American DJ tour have also been included below.

Container Preps New Album for Spectrum Spools, Streams Track

Ren Schofield’s productions as Container are known for making an almighty squall, but his upcoming full-length for Spectrum Spools comes with a warning as his “most insane” outing to date. The Providence-based producer—who we profiled last year as part of our Bubblin’ Up series—cut his teeth in the local noise scene before moving into DIY analog techno. His debut album, LP, was released on Spectrum Spools in 2011, and in the years since he’s turned out EPs for Liberation Technologies and Morphine. His latest effort, also titled LP, is described as “architecturally dextrous and club-minded” and “the most explosive offering in the Container oeuvre, capturing the raw and unhinged essence of the live Container experience while exploring new compositional and sonic limits.” Lead track “Eject” sets the tone and can be streamed below, where the record’s complete tracklist has also been included;  LP is due out on June 8.

Surfing “Warlock”

Surfing is a somewhat deceiving title for NYC producer Peter Segerstrom’s new project. Also known to operate as Portable Sunsets, Segerstrom’s upcoming LP for 1080p sees him crafting tracks akin to “a claustrophobic slow motion drag through the inside of a drum machine, where echos of Dancemania, Thomas Brinkmann, DJ Assault, DNA, Early Steve Reich tape pieces, Glossolalia, DJ Funk, and science fiction vibes ring out,” according to the label’s press release. Pulled from Surfing’s self-titled record, “Warlock” embodies that description; built atop a static-lined base of thick kicks and sturdy snares, the tune loops its titular phrase over and over before eventually teasing a bouncing synth sequence out from behind the production’s full-bodied rhythms. In other words, Surfing’s track has absolutely nothing to do with the beach. “Warlock” can be grabbed below before Segerstrom’s full Surfing album drops in cassette and digital form via 1080p on April 7.
