Tom Trago Readies New Single for Voyage Direct, Announces Upcoming Label Compilation and Tour

Tom Trago‘s Voyage Direct imprint appears set to be keep itself rather busy over the next few months, with the upcoming release of Trago’s first solo single since 2013 and a double-disc label compilation soon on the way.

First, Trago will issue his Hidden Heart of Gold 12″ on March 9. A two-track affair, the single is set to be led by its 12-plus-minute title track (streaming below), which will also be accompanied by an “ambient mix” of the sprawling production on its b-side.

The following month, Trago’s Voyage Direct label will issue First Mission, a double-disc compilation that will collect new productions as well as material from the label’s existing catalog, including artists such as Legowelt (as House of Jezebel), Carl Craig (on remix duties), Awanto 3, Maxi Mill, and—of course—Trago himself amongst its 22 tracks. The compilation’s April 27 release will also coincide with a First Mission tour which will find many of the record’s contributors coming together for a number of shows around Europe. The complete details of that upcoming tour and the artwork and tracklist for First Mission have been included below, where a full stream of Trago’s forthcoming “Hidden Heart of Gold” single has also been included.

Preview Black Jazz Consortium’s Upcoming RECODED EP

Longstanding NYC producer/DJ and head of the Soul People Music imprint, Black Jazz Consortium (a.k.a. Fred P) will soon release the first volume of his RECODED EP series, which will focus on “outtakes, alternate versions, and embellishments” of tracks from his Codes and Metaphors LP. Released in 2013, the Codes and Metaphors album began as a three-part EP series before eventually being compiled into a full-length effort; it appears the artist’s RECODED series may be on a similar path, with Part 1 set to drop soon, to be followed by a number of additional volumes, though Black Jazz Consortium is yet to share the exact details of those.

In the meantime, the respected East Coast selector—and former XLR8R podcast contributor—has shared a preview of RECODED‘s first installment; featuring four hypnotically soulful house constructions, the EP can be previewed below. At this point, no exact release date has been set for the record, but it is expected to land sometime in the coming weeks.

Michał Lewicki “One”

Michał Lewicki‘s upcoming Ton album for Project: Mooncircle is the result of an uncoventional production process. A Polish artist who is said to have “always been searching for new ways to implement mathematics into his music,” Lewicki (who also produces under the name Deam) initially began building his LP by making use of a variety of MIDI generators, MIDI delays, polyrhythms, pitch shifters, scales, and more in order to create generative sequences that would supply different results with every pass. From that base, Lewicki edited and arranged the results, adding extra instrumentation as his mathematically rooted pieces began to take shape. “One” is, well, one of the 11 resulting productions which Lewicki has deemed fit for Ton (out on March 3), and—as we suspect the rest of his LP is too—the track is not bogged down by its technically minded beginnings, instead the somewhat somber tune is instilled with the kind of unpredictable movement that gently begs for the listener’s attention, keeping us leaning ever closer in to see if there are in fact any patterns we can actually wrap our heads around.

KiNK Preps New EP for Running Back

Bulgarian hardware maestro Strahil Velchev (a.k.a. KiNK) will release a new four-track EP on Gerd Janson’s Running Back label next month. Entitled Cloud Generator, Janson says the EP will be comprised of “computer nerd symphonies and cyberpunk melodies for clubs, roofless raves, and virtual racing games.” No previews of the release are available as of yet, but we’ve included the forthcoming record’s tracklist below; no exact release date has been set for KiNK’s Cloud Generator EP, though the record is expected to land sometime in March. Barnt Announces Upcoming Remix 12″; Preview It Now

Apparently, Barnt (pictured above) wasn’t planning to release any remixes of his 2014 album Magazine 13, a record which we placed in the top 10 of our releases of the year list. It seems, though, that the combined talents of Tale of Us, Recondite, and Jens-Uwe Beyer have been enough to change that, with the Cologne-based Barnt having just announced plans to drop a two-track remix 12″ by the name of Magazine 131.

According to Barnt, neither of the two remixes were officially commissioned, rather being the result of the artists taking it on themselves to rework the album track “Cherry Red” for use in their own sets. Both new versions subsequently made it into Barnt’s sets too, and eventually prompted this release. Now, the resulting collaborative remix from Tale of Us and Recondite, and Jens-Uwe Beyer’s solo retooling of “Cherry Red” can be previewed below before the remix package sees its official release on April 13 via Magazine.

Forrest “Manhattan (VAM Remix)”

Montreal-born, now London-based producer and vocalist Zach Joss (a.k.a. Forrest) is set to land on Ralph Lawson’s 2020Vision label late next month with the Manhattan EP. Joining Joss’ breathy house production of the same title on the upcoming record will be additional remixes from Christian Nielsen, and the rework featured here from budding UK talent VAM. A more bubbly, melody-strewn affair in its original form, VAM infuses “Manhattan” with plenty of warehouse-ready vibes, as the full-bodied remix focuses on reverberant rhythmic thrusts and dark synthetic textures across its six-minute run. Set to land as part of Forrest’s larger Manhattan EP package (artwork above) on March 30, VAM’s rework can be grabbed below.

Genius of Time’s Nils Krogh to Drop Solo EP as Arkajo; Stream the Full Record Now

A member of the hardware-obsessed Genius of Time duo, Swedish producer Nils Krogh will break off for a solo EP under the name Arkajo. Appearing via respected Swedish label Aniara, the forthcoming Altavista EP (artwork above) is set to offer three—as the label puts it—”pristine, club-minded sound sculptures” from Krogh, all of which stretch well past the six-minute mark. Set to begin landing in stores next week, Krogh’s new EP as Arkajo can be streamed in full below.

DJ Qu Readies New EP for Secretsundaze

New Jersey-based producer/DJ and former XLR8R podcast contributor DJ Qu has revealed the details of his upcoming SS1 EP, which will arrive via the Secretsundaze label in March. A three-track effort, SS1 will serve as DJ Qu’s first outing on the UK imprint, though—as Resident Advisor reports—the NJ artist has played many Secretsundaze events over the years.

The SS1 EP will see its official release on March 30. In the meantime, the record’s artwork and tracklist can be peeped below, and SS1‘s three low-slung house efforts can be previewed here.

L.I.E.S. Preps New EP from Gavin Russom; Hear a Track Now

NYC synth specialist Gavin Russom will next land on the L.I.E.S. imprint with the three-track The Telstar File EP. Serving as Russom’s debut outing for the label, The Telstar File is said to find the seasoned artist “going for the throat” with a trio of “functional club tracks that teeter on the edge of the deepest psychedelic realm.”

Serving as our first taste of the record, the EP’s title track certainly fits that description, as it wraps a dark, twisted bassline around crisp hardware-form rhythms, and using its seven-plus minute runtime to gradually tweak its various synth lines out into the “psychedelic realm” alluded to above. Set to drop sometime in March, the complete tracklist for Russom’s The Telstar File EP has been included below along with a full stream of the record’s title track.

Rinse Announces Upcoming EPs from Geeneus and XXXY

London radio station-turned-imprint Rinse has detailed two upcoming EPs from XXXY and Rinse FM founder Geeneus (pictured above).

In addition to recently celebrating the radio station’s 20th anniversary and continuing to helm the label arm of Rinse, Geeneus has been keeping busy producing and collaborating with Katy B, among other artists. His upcoming single—which marks his first solo release in six years—is said to comprise two tough club cuts: “sparse and rolling” title track “Ele” takes its cues from grime and UK funky, while “Red Velvet” is “denser and more immersive, escalating to a dizzying whirl of harmonies and rave stabs.” The record is officially due out on March 30, and kicks off a string of Geeneus releases planned to arrive throughout the year. In the meantime, the record’s a-side can be streamed in full below.

Also arriving today is news of XXXY’s Last Dance EP, which will see its release via Rinse on March 16. The EP is the first in a planned trio from the UK producer that are said to extend the “tripped-out, wistful style he;s increasingly come to make distinctly his own, with clouds of arpeggiated synth notes and vaporized voice rolling atop pillow-soft, droning bass.” The complete tracklist for XXXY’s upcoming record can be found below along with a stream of EP cut “Lately.”
