Based in Southern California, the fledgling Knightwerk label will drop its next release on August 19 in the form of the TeleKuntx single from Stateside talent BEEK. Ahead of the digital record’s release, the label has passed along Doctor Jeep‘s take on the track, which finds the NYC-based producer keeping things lively with rolling snares and a smattering of FX stabs and chopped vocals. But its really the bassline here that deserves the credit as it slinks around the remix’s percussive rhythms in a restless fashion, occasionally joined by a handful of perfectly syncopated synth counterparts which slide around in the upper octaves.
Toronto’s Gingy is most often found operating alongside fellow Canadian DJ/producer Bordello (in fact, the two turned in a XLR8R podcast together last year), but on his latest outing, Gingy has elected to fly solo, delivering a three-track affair for Clone Royal Oak that is set to drop early next month.
The upcoming RAPT EP is led by its title track, an organ-fueled piece of stuttering house which incorporates the talents of Toronto vocalist Starving Yet Full, perhaps best known for his collaborations with the now defunct Azari & III outfit. Joined by another original track, “VSCUS,” a collaborative dub remix of “RAPT” from Clone founder Serge and Dutch producer Tyrell is also set to be included on Gingy’s upcoming solo EP, which can be previewed in the player below before seeing its official release on September 8.
Following the release of his recent 12″ for Doc Daneeka’s Ten Thousand Yen label, xxxy has shared a new video for a-side cut “Goldfish.” Described as “wildly messed-up yet cinematic,” the video tracks the movements of a goldfish and its captor through a series of hyperreal nighttime escapades, which are set to the UK producer’s bassline-heavy club track. Directed by Lewis Lloyd, the video premiered earlier today on Dazed and can be watched in full below, while details of xxxy’s “Goldfish” b/w “Evade” single can be found here.
In its original form, Koloto‘s “Mechanica” (the title track from her recent EP) takes shape as a dramatic, textural beat flushed with ascending bell melodies. In the hands of LA producer and Alpha Pup affiliate Dot, the tune is infused with a new low-end bounce, its tuned kicks and snapping snares serving as the dividers with which flashes of Koloto’s original melodic bursts are allowed to appear. Having already seen a digital release via Bandcamp, Koloto’s Mechanica EP is set to see a more proper release via Stateside label Abandon Building next month, when it will be joined by Dot’s remix featured here, as well as others from Set In Sand, Sun Glitters, and Clozee.
2013 saw a flurry of activity from Gold Panda which culminated in the release of his excellent sophomore LP, Half of Where You Live, via Ghostly. 2014, however, has been a relatively quiet year for the UK artist, one whose silence has been momentarily broken by the release of a new production which the generous talent has elected to give away as a free download.
Titled “Clarke’s Dream,” the track makes use of Gold Panda’s MPC as it chops together a dusty, stuttering shuffle, adding thick layers of funky horns and watery textures to the soul-burnt track as it rolls along. Mickey Pearce is the latest in a recent flood of producers to remix NYC duo Dat Oven’s “Icy Lake.” Originally released in 1998, the record was jointly reissued by sister labels Night Slugs and Fade to Mind in the spring of this year along with reworks by the likes of L-Vis 1990, Total Freedom, and DJ Rashad & NA (of Nguzunguzu). In this latest version, Pearce hones in on the original’s hypnotic, chiming melody, stripping it back even further while splicing in sharp percussion segments that showcase the UK producer’s singular drum-programming skills.

Techno mainstays Dave Sumner (a.k.a. Function) and Dominick Fernow (operating under his Vatican Shadow alias) have unveiled details of a collaborative album, set for release via Fernow’s own Hospital Productions label. The forthcoming Games Have Rules LP reportedly finds both artists stripping back their respective approaches to production—that is, the “dancefloor-focused techno structures of Function” and the “experimental cassette-roots of Vatican Shadow”—to create “dynamic electronic ambient music, equal parts rhythmic and atmospheric.” The press release goes on to state that the record began life as an “emotional acid” album intended for after-hours listening, and emulates the free-flowing structure often associated with improvised, long-form works.
Games Have Rules is officially due out on September 22, and both artwork and a full tracklist can be found below. Dates for album release parties planned for Berghain in Berlin, Output in New York, and Fabric in London have also been included, with additional events to be announced.

We first heard from Aukland, New Zealand-based producer Keepsakes in spring of 2013, when the artist had crafted five strong-armed bass hybrids for the Night Echoes EP, released via Polish label Sequel One. Now, Keepsakes is set to return to the label next month with the Stygian Concrete Works EP, another five-track affair that finds the man building sturdy bass constructions, but with his aims now shifted more towards the techno side of the spectrum. With “Galso in Camo” serving as our first taste, the shift appears to suit Keepsakes well—across a chugging five minutes, the track splices burnt synth stabs atop forceful thuds and, which push the production closer to the edge at a fearlessly brooding pace. Keepsakes’ Stygian Concrete Works EP will see its official release on September 13.
Berlin-based producers Physical Therapy and Ville Haimala (who also serves as one half of Finnish duo Renaissance Man) have announced a new collaborative project as Low Concept, and shared details for their debut record. While both artists have adopted experimental approaches to solo production, this new effort reportedly attempts to “strip back the baggage and provide straight-to-the-point dancefloor tracks.”
The upcoming Bugz EP will see release via fledgling White Asega label; its title track is being described as a “loose, distorted techno belter,” while its second original cut finds the pair “blowing out the speaker cones and rattling the nails out of the floorboards as scraps of rave vocals and wonky synth lines are pulled into an all-consuming black hole of a bassline.” On the flip, Manchester’s Alex Coulton remixes “Bugz,” and a digital exclusive remix from White Asega co-founder Jack Dixon will also be on offer when the EP lands on September 8. Until then, previews for all four tracks can be heard below, where a tracklist has also been included.
Since launching last year with its Trust compilation, Nicolas Jaar’s Other People imprint has kept up a prolific release schedule, with new content issued almost every Sunday. Now approaching its first anniversary, the imprint has announced an upcoming compilation of largely new material from its artist roster. Entitled Work (artwork above), the collection includes cuts from Soul Keita (who featured on Jaar’s previous Clown & Sunset label), Jaar’s DARKSIDE project with Dave Harrington, and a handful of remixes by Powell, Jelinek, and Francis Harris.
Before Work lands on September 29, Other People has made Berlin-based unit VISUALS‘ contribution available to stream. Produced by Jaar, “A Pixel” can be heard below, where the compilation’s full tracklist has also been included.
