T. Williams to Release New 12″ Via Local Action

For the seventh record set to be released via Local Action, the bass-centric UK label has once again procured the talents of DJ/producer T. Williams, who crafted three instrumental tracks for the 12″ (pictured above). “Break Broke,” “Go In,” and “Analog Tour” follow almost a year after the London-based artist’s “Heartbeat” single for the same label, and will drop some time during the latter part of September. You can listen to clips of the songs before they’re available, below.

Fresh off the release of “I Can Feel the Heat,” Magic Touch‘s three-track endeavor for the 100% Silk imprint, comes this video for the record’s title track. As one would expect from a tune of such unabashedly all-out-disco proportions, the video is a hodgepodge of grainy dance-party footage, with just a touch of overlaying psychedelic visuals to keep things bizarrely drugged-out. After watching the video, you can download “Clubhouse,” a cut from the aforementioned release’s b-side which features Miracle Club’s Honey Owens, here.

Graphics “Fine Yarn”

“Fine Yarn” is a somewhat deceiving title for this dark venture into techno-infused UK bass from up-and-comer Graphics. Showing a flair for rhythm and texture, the young artist carves a methodical path trough rich soundscapes, brooding bass, and trance-inducing drum patterns, resulting in a powerful outing where the vibe floats between meditatively introspective and deeply dance-worthy. Graphics seems poised to propel his name into forward-thinking electronic music circles with a recent GETME! Guest Mix (which touts an impressive tracklist with plenty of his own unreleased tracks which you can peep after the jump) and a handful of forthcoming releases and remixes set to hit the streets in the coming months.

Listen to the New Samo Sound Boy EP Before It Drops Next Week on Trouble & Bass

LA dancefloor manipulator Samo Sound Boy has a new EP slated to drop next week via NYC bass outpost Trouble & Bass, his first release since January’s Heavy Bass Champions of the World Vol. XIII EP. The new record is entitled Shuffle Code, includes a stellar remix from Ikonika, and all four of its tracks can be heard exclusively on XLR8R before the EP is officially released on August 30. Samo Sound Boy is the only West Coast producer signed to Trouble & Bass, and his sound is certainly unique to the label, incorporating elements of UK bass music while also folding in bits of ghetto house, rave, and a dose of California hip-hop swagger. Listen to the songs below, and check out the Shuffle Code artwork, which we’ve also posted.

Semtek “TBC”

Don’t be Afraid label head Benjamin Semtek (usually found operating solely under his last name as Semtek) drops the new “Pizza” 12″ today and has shared this bonus track to help spread the word. “TBC” finds the Londoner stepping away from his usual techno fair, instead navigating a host of space-age melodies with a slow-moving beat gently bubbling below. The ever-so-slightly off-kilter percussion and slap-bass-reminiscent low end seem to flirt with Dam-Funk-esque future-boogie territory, but Semtek stays true to his roots, leaving the precise techno vibes he’s known for deep down in the tune’s core.

Sun Araw Ancient Romans

Cameron Stallones doesn’t do small. Maybe it’s just not a part of his musical vernacular, or maybe he doesn’t see the point in creating only three and a half minutes of sprawling psychedelia. Regardless, the prolific vibe merchant isn’t likely to release a record that isn’t massive (at least by today’s standards) in both size and concept. The eight-track, 80-minute-long Ancient Romans LP is the latest transmission from the Southern Californian’s Sun Araw moniker, and though it may be nearly twice the size of his Off Duty EP—something that doesn’t exactly bode well in this age of rampant, ADD-fueled consumption—the room Stallones allots his music is both warranted and beneficial.

Take the album’s 11-minute centerpiece, “At Delphi.” Here is a wispy composition that churns and bubbles like a mystical convergence of the age-old souls referenced in the LP’s title. The size of the track allows each handcrafted synth noise and treated guitar pluck sufficient time and space to dip in and out of the mix without disturbing the mesmerizing drift of its pace. This places a distinct importance on each instrument, which in turn gives what might otherwise be an ambient lull in Ancient Romans‘ playlst the character needed to be one of its most captivating and memorable tracks. Stallones exercises this well-honed ability throughout the bulk of his seemingly improvised sonic journey—like on the slow-grooving “Lute and Lyre” and “Trireme”‘s cacophonous jangle—with hardly a faltered step.

That’s not to say Sun Araw’s latest is perfect. The man obviously knows his way around psychedelia’s tropes (repetitious drumming, vibrating drones, aimless guitar noodling, et al), and is compelled to explore their possibilities at length—something he’s done over the course of three-plus years and roughly 16 releases. That said, it can be deflating that the project’s sound palette hasn’t really changed much in that time. Even as he tours the world with his Sun Araw Band, Stallones’ music is still that of one man locked in his studio with a bit of greenery and a few Faust and Cluster records. It’s a singular, though often exciting, vision with seemingly no end, but as the scope of Sun Araw expands wider and wider, it might benefit its creator and his tools to grow along with it.

Rainbow Arabia “Boys and Diamonds (Atropolis Remix)”

Sure, it’s a little strange that this Afrobeat-meets-Latin-rhythms style track is in fact a combination of efforts by artists hailing from LA (Rainbow Arabia, pictured above) and NYC (Atropolis). But who wants to waste time analyzing this seeming contradiction when the results are this irresistible? Not us, and apparently not the husband-and-wife duo of Rainbow Arabia, who are busy as ever with a slew of upcoming Japanese/European tour dates (which you can check after the jump) and a new 7″ single for “Boys and Diamonds” (from their recent LP of the same title) coming out on Kompakt this week, a record which will feature another reworking of the track from South Carolina resident Hard Mix.

Ben Westbeech “Something For the Weekend (Roska Remix)”

With the second solo album from London vocalist/producer Ben Westbeech a little less than a month away, the remixes for the LP’s chosen single, “Something For the Weekend” (peep the video here), have come flooding in from the likes of Gerry Read, Lee Foss & Robert James, The Revenge, Joey Negro, Westbeech’s own Breach alias, and this one from UK badman Roska (pictured above). Reducing Westbeech’s vocal contribution to a few key phrases and one essential “uhh,” Roska spins the disco-house vibes of the original into menacing dancefloor gold with enough distorted drums, funky percussion, and screaming, siren-like synths to do some serious damage.
