Shit Robot “I Found Love (TBD Remix)”

It’s quite surprising that Shit Robot, the veteran, Irish-born DFA producer, hasn’t yet released his first full-length, but we’re getting a slight taste of what to expect of From the Cradle to the Rave—which boasts contributions from James Murphy, Juan MacLean, Ian Svenonious, and Alexis Taylor, among others—months beforehand thanks to this remix by TBD. Production partners Lee Douglas and Justin Vandervolgen chop and screw the vocal track from “I Found Love” into a mess of baritone half-syllables that work impeccably with the funky basslines, arpeggiated synth melodies, and pulsing house beats that fill the rest of their remix. If Shit Robot’s forthcoming album is even half this spacey and tastefully energetic, we’ll all be in for a pleasant surprise come September 21.

Legowelt to Release New Africa Jet Band Album

Taking a break from his usual house/electro tune-crafting as Legowelt, producer Danny Wolfers is donning the cap of The Africa Jet Band to release a new album of twisted Afro-funk explorations for Australia’s M-Division label. The Africa Jet Band Experience actually serves as a sequel to 2009’s Nacho Patrol Presents… The Africa Jet Band, and features six new tunes from Wolfers on the LP, with some bonus tracks filling out the rest of the CD release. The new mini-album is purported to be coming in September, but you can preview each of the forthcoming songs beforehand, here. Check out the artwork and tracklist below. (via FACT)

Toddla T “Sky Surfing feat. Wayne Marshall (Douster Remix)”

The latest single from young prodigious producer Toddla T, “Sky Surfing,” is treated to a relatively simplified remix from ZZK compatriot Douster. The French producer pared down the insanity of Toddla’s original for something more focused on rumbling bass frequencies, simple percussive beats, minimal synth melodies, and enough vocal tweaks to keep the energy as high as Wayne Marshall‘s lyrical content. As the song moves along, more buzzing sounds are heaped into the mix, eventually raising the levels of hyperactivity near the craziness of Toddla’s single without treading on familiar ground. Watch Mount Kimbie’s “Would Know” Video

Easily one of our favorite tunes from Mount Kimbie‘s just-released debut full-length, Crooks & Lovers, “Would Know” was just redelivered to us as the first music video from the highly touted UK production duo. We’re almost certain that director Tyrone Lebon and possibly Mount Kimbie themselves are the only folks who know for sure what era the edited footage making up the “Would Know” video comes from, but we’d wager to say the VHS clips of the young couple toying with each other in various playful, relatively naive ways were filmed circa 1991, or so. Sure, you could recreate the fashion and hairstyles from that time with ease, but a certain adolescent essence exists within Mount Kimbie’s music video that couldn’t be replicated, like the cast of Gummo reenacting Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo & Juliet. Cassette Playa and DJ Q Hook Up Free Bassline Mix

Leftfield fashion and music blog Cassette Playa got a wild hair the other day and got BBC 1Xtra‘s DJ Q (pictured above) to put together an epic mix of choice bassline tunes. The veteran turntablist snagged some of his favorite tracks from the decade-old genre, including bits from Tempa T, Funkystepz, Boy Better Know, Wiley, Dizzee Rascal, TS7, and plenty of DJ Q’s own productions, and busted out a party-starting DJ set for Carri Mundane to toss on her blog. Check out the mix, along with its artwork and tracklist, below.

Bubblin’: Girl Unit

Who:Girl Unit
Where: London, UK

Although he was born and bred in the UK, 24-year-old Philip Gamble’s musical passions originate on the American side of the Atlantic. Miami bass, electro, ghettotech, Chicago house, and especially US hip-hop and R&B are all influences, which he then distills into an abstract, 808-driven house template. Gamble began releasing mixes under the name Girl U No Its True in 2006, but only recently started dropping remixes and original productions under the shortened Girl Unit moniker. His I.R.L. EP on Night Slugs has been a staple release for the post-funky set, remixes for C.R.S.T. and Pirate Soundsystem are on the way, and his jaw-dropping and as-yet-unreleased song “Wut” is poised to be a game-changer when it surfaces later this year.

Maddslinky “Ruled By Your Motions”

From venerable dubstep progenitor Zed Bias comes this new tune produced under his Maddslinky moniker. The smooth shuffle of “Ruled By Your Motions” is taken from the forthcoming Maddslinky album for Tru Thoughts, entitled Make a Change. It starts out innocently enough: swirls of ambient noise and processed field recordings undulate beneath sparse, pattering hi-hats while a subtle melody slowly rises to the surface, bringing a skittering beat with it. Eventually, Maddslinky introduces his fat bassline into the mix, which quite effortlessly holds the entire production together. It’s as stellar a track as one would expect from someone with a rap sheet like Bias’, and certainly leads us to believe more wonderful things will be heard when Make a Change is released this October.

Machinedrum Previews New EP, Shares Free Track

Travis Stewart has a lot on his hands lately, what with his recent Sepalcure release for Hotflush, that awesome Machinedrumremix he did for Jimmy Edgar, and that mixtape he made to tip us off to the forthcoming release he’s been working on for LuckyMe. Sabo “Hey Hey Moombahton”

Seems like Dave Nada isn’t the only one hard at work trying to spread the good word of his burgeoning moombahton sound. NY-based DJ/producer Sabo took apart last year’s break-out house track, Dennis Ferrer‘s “Hey Hey,” and gave it the tropical tweaks, bouncing rhythms, and noisy bits necessary to transform the number into a moombahton giant. On Sabo’s SoundCloud page, the tunesmith remarks, “So many house heads are gonna hate me for this one, but fuck it, I’m having mad fun making these.” We’re pretty sure that’s the attitude everyone should take when making music.
