Han Duo “Blurred”

Hamburg-based producer Vincent Beckmann has shared a free download as Han Duo. Being a jazz-trained drummer, we’re told that he is especially interested in rhythmic patterns, which made him use a live jam by his good friend Maximiilian Schuller as one instrument in the track. “Blurred” was inspired by that particular hypnotic jam and some old vinyl samples of South American percussion.

Vincent has just started his own imprint Enbeezee. On this, he will release vinyl-only records from himself and friends as well as throw parties in Hamburg.

Etienne Debuts on Traffic Records

Frankfurt’s Traffic Records label has released a four-track EP by Etienne, titled Combat. 

Etienne is a Berlin-based DJ-producer with previous releases on Art Of Dark, Undersound Recordings, and Sequalog, the label he co-founded with TC80. His sound is rooted in spacey, minimal techno. 

Combat EP will be Traffic Records’ 13th release, following Z@P, Martyné & Jacob Chenaux, and Bodin & Jacob.      

The label tells us to expect an EP “with a clear view on techno.”

Venda Preps New EP for Norse Projekt, Shares Snippets

Australian-based DJ and producer Venda will drop his latest release on Norse Projeckt later this month.

The release, Fire and Rain, is a deep and atmospheric record with layered ambient tones mixed with groove-ridden basslines. Musically, there is a strong influence from Romania throughout, which also flows through to the remix from renowned Romanian producer Dubtil, who remixes EP track “Saphirre,” which concludes the release.

Venda has been busy in recent years releasing EP’s on Bodyparts, Inwave, and Black Key Records, with remix credits from Archie Hamilton, Mihai Pol, and OdD. 2018 looks set to continue this trend with releases on Subsonic Music, Mantra Collective Records, and more still to be announced, with a remix for Patraulea due out later in the year on Sobriquet records.

LA’s The Broad Museum to Host Pharmakon, Matmos and Total Freedom This Month

The second edition of The Broad‘s Summer Happenings series will take place on July 28.

Inspired by the creative practice of German artist Joseph Beuys and the Fluxus movement he fostered, the event will feature legendary Krautrock group Faust, who will be performing an experimental set alongside punk trio Ernsthafte Angelegenheiten; a set in the stunning plaza by Baltimore duo Matmos; experimental pioneers Boredoms’ frontman EYE, who presents a DJ set; sonic deconstructions by sound artist Pharmakon; an evocative, cross-genre set from LA’s own Total Freedom; FlucT, who will investigate the physical, political, and emotional via a new performance created especially for the evening; and Nelson Patton, who joins forces with Lonnie Holley for an improvisational set.

Watch Ski Oakenfull Breakdown “Feel Good Inc.” by the Gorillaz

In Point Blank‘s latest video, Ski Oakenfull breaks down the Gorrilaz classic “Feel Good Inc.”

The video was recorded at last month’s Sonar +D, the popular Barcelona festival’s daytime tech showcase. Point Blank are regular contributors to Sonar +D, which sees thousands of creatives attend each year to interact with some of the latest innovations in music, technology, and creativity. In the video, just as he does in all of his celebrated deconstructions, Oakenfull breaks down the elements of the track, from the drums to the bass and the vocal acapella, and reconstructs them in Ableton Live 10.

Shlomi Aber “Trauma”

Last month, Shlomi Aber launched his new vinyl-only imprint, Lost Episodes.

The first release arrives from the label boss himself and follows a stellar run that has seen him drop outings on Len Faki’s Figure, Boddika’s Nonplus, and Andre Kronert’s ODD / EVEN. Titled Episode 1, the EP features four tracks in Aber’s stripped-back style; gritty, moody techno that is hypnotic and highly effective on the floor. Kicking off with “Trauma,” a raw and punchy cut, the EP flows through deep and droning techno (“Night Coasters”), skeletal drum work (“Sweat”), and woozy synth-driven textures (“Terra Core”).

Oiigi “På mitt sinn”

Giovanni Lalin (a.k.a Oiigi) is an upcoming Dutch artist—currently based in Cologne—who just released his debut EP, titled Comfort & Distractions. You can place his music next to artists like Mndsgn, SwuM. and idntrmmbr.

We’re told that the underlying meaning of this EP is that we all receive different kinds of impulses that trigger certain emotions. “Everybody experiences things on a daily basis which can be perceived as positive but also negative. Right now we live in a time where nothing is sure, so people rather escape or take substances to escape reality for a certain time to find peace and tranquillity in life or to come up with new ideas and make something positive out of something negative,” Oiigi explains.

Celebrated UK Jazz Drummer Yussef Dayes (of Yussef Kamaal) Shares New Single

London-based drummer Yussef Dayes (formerly of celebrated jazz-funk duo Yussef Kamaal) has released a new single in collaboration with Alfa Mist. We’re told that it represents “not only a new beginning but what comes out of being able to live your own vision as a musician.” It also draws heavily on inspirations from a recent trip to São Paulo and Salvador in Brazil.  

“Love Is The Message,” the first of two upcoming releases, was the product of a jam session with producer and composer Alfa Mist. The song also sees some riffs from rising guitarist Mansur Brown. 

Dayes came to notoriety alongside his brothers Ahmad and Kareem in the Afrobeat-influenced jazz group United Vibrations. As one half of Yussef Kamaal, his rhythmic work was put on full display and the Black Focus album ended up becoming one of the most heralded jazz records to emerge from the new London scene.

Premiere: Hear a Tripped-Out Post-Punk Remix From Simple Symmetry

Roam Recordings will release Mexican DJ and producer Mijo and Berlin duo Local Suicide‘s new EP, Edo Kai Tora/Ganz Falsch, on July 20.

The EP features two inventive originals and remixes from Sascha Funke and Simple Symmetry across five tracks—the release also comes packaged with a Mexico City version of “Ganz Falsch”—that run the gamut from dark disco to EBM, jacking acid, and warped post-punk. Edo Kai Tora/Ganz Falsch continues a staggering 2018 run for Roam that has included tracks from Man Power, Rodion, Curses, Lauer, and label head Jason Peters.

Infinite Machine Announces Debut Album From Tomás Urquieta

Infinite Machine‘s fifth release of 2018 will be the awaited debut album from label regular Tomás Urquieta.

The album, titled Dueños de Nada, is, reportedly, a departure “from what we are used to hearing from the Chilean producer,” and incorporates a broad range of influences, from gritty industrial sounds to punk, techno, and more experimental electronic fanfare. The album marks Urquieta’s return to the label after 2016’s acclaimed La Muerte De Todo Lo Nuevo EP and his 2015 label debut, Manuscript. Urquieta also designed the album artwork, which you can check out below, along with the tracklisting.

Dueños de Nada drops on September 27. You can stream the album’s title track via the player below.
