Marco Resmann ‘Keep It Easy’

Native Berliner Marco Resmann (also one-half of Luna City Express) is returning to Poker Flat Recordings with the Flux EP.

Something of a legend in the Berlin party scene since the 1990s, Resmann has continued to build on his reputation with ever impressive releases throughout his career, primarily as a part of his own Upon. You imprint.

Here, he dives into his deep bag of tricks and produces a three-tracker of emotional house music.

Ahead of the EP’s September 29 release, he’s shared “Keep It Easy,” a powerful, driving rhythm track that’s cleverly counterbalanced with an inventive melodic loop.

“”Keep It Easy” is the oldest track on the Flux EP and more than a year old. I’m glad that Steve [Bug] chose that one. It’s quite different from the other two tunes but it still fits perfectly on the entire release, which is going to be my third appearance on Poker Flat Recordings.Marco Resmann

Visionist Shares Mesmerising Video

Visionist has shared the video for new single “No Idols,” taken from his forthcoming album Value, out on October 20 via Big Dada.

“For “No Idols,” I wanted to explore notions of the Idol and the Idoliser,” explains the producer.” “No Idols” considers the often crushing nature of worshipping another but also the consequences of holding oneself as an emblem.”

Directed by visual artist and photographer Teri Varhol, the video is built on imagery originally inspired by the song’s title, which Varhol “then developed and expanded on” in close collaboration with Louis. “It utilizes dream logic and symbolic imagery, so ultimately each viewer will have their own interpretation based on their own thoughts and allusions,” says Varhol. “For me it depicts a raw and intimate journey of self-discovery, traveling from rejection of mere idolatry through false beliefs and illusory egos, to discovery of the true self.”

Value is scheduled for October 20 release via Big Dada.

The latest in Point Blank‘s Style Guide series looks to UK garage with MJ Cole.

The new history lesson follows on from the house and techno editions with Freemason’s James Wiltshire, with award-winning producer MJ Cole inviting Point Blank to his London studio to dive into UK Garage. In the video, Cole gives a concise history of the genre, it’s style characteristics, the labels and clubs involved, and his entry into the culture.

Mark Fell to Premiere New Multi-Channel Project in Chicago

Mark Fell is set to premiere 7 Facts In Logical Space—his new multi-channel project for Lampo and the Chicago Architecture Biennial. The piece features 24 speakers positioned around Preston Bradley Hall, placing electronic sound in dialogue with the acoustic and architectural space.

Conceived as a sonic framework for the Chicago-based bassoonist and improviser Katherine Young, the piece develops Fell’s concern with the spatial distribution of synthetic sound in response to the architectural environment and the interplay of geometries. Fell describes 7 Facts In Logical Space in terms of the relationships between shapes and textures, between the oblique network of synthetic lines and the visceral, organic pacing of Young’s turbulent acoustic timbres.

In contrast to many spatial pieces, the work does not employ any surround-sound systems to create the appearance of sonic movement around the space and audience. The UK composer uses “concrete” approaches to the treatment of sonic and musical space that reject illusion and decoration in favor of the objective presence of material form.

Mark Fell (born 1966, Rotherham, England) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Sheffield, England. After studying experimental film and video art at the local polytechnic, he reverted to earlier interests in computational technology, music, and synthetic sound. In 1998 he began a series of critically acclaimed record releases on labels including Mille Plateaux, Editions Mego, and Raster Noton. Fell is widely known for exploring the relationships between popular music styles, such as electronica and club music, and typically academic approaches to computer-based composition with a particular emphasis on algorithmic and mathematical systems. Since his early electronic music pieces, Fell’s practice has expanded to include moving image works, sound and light installation, choreography, critical texts, curatorial projects and educational activities. He last appeared at Lampo in November 2013, when he premiered One Dimensional Music without Context and Meaning.

The event will take place on September 29, with more information here.

Michael Claus ‘Past Era’

Tomorrow, Bay Area artist Michael Claus will release a new album on 100% Silk, titled Memory Protect.

Claus is a staple of the San Francisco scene, throwing renowned party Outpost and collaborating with artists such as the late Johnny Igaz (a.k.a. Nackt). Claus’ music, and especially that found on Memory Protect, falls in line with his Pacific Ocean residence—think foggy and hazy dub-infused chords with deep undulating basslines. Claus has been active in the scene for over a decade now, but it has only been in the past few years that he has dropped tracks under his own name. On Memory Protect, Claus presents eight cloudy, introspective cuts that hypnotize with subtle beauty.

In support of the release, Claus has offered up “Past Era,” a misty, groove-led outing, as today’s XLR8R download. You can pick up “Past Era” via WeTransfer below, with the album available here.

Watch a Poignant Video From Sebastian Reynolds and Anne Müller

Solo Collective—a new ensemble comprised of British pianist and producer Sebastian Reynolds and German chamber musicians Alex Stolze and Anne Müller—will release their debut record on November 10 via Nonostar Records.

The release features each musician taking lead at different points throughout its runtime, with the other two acting as support during those times. One of the pieces from the album, a cut titled “Holy Island,” features Reynolds up front with Müller in support and was composed for and dedicated to Reynolds’ mother, Sheenagh, who passed away in August 2016. The stunning, heartwrenching cut is also paired with a video that was choreographed by Adrienne Hart from Neon Dance, who has also worked with F**k Buttons, Nils Frahm, and Olafur Arnalds. The video and the track explore the beauty and wonder of Lindisfarne (a.k.a. Holy Island), and Sebastian’s journey of bereavement and loss.

You can watch the video, which was directed by Adam Hale, in full via the player above.

Ninja Tune Welcomes Project Pablo

Project Pablo will release his new four-track EP titled Hope You’re Well via Ninja Tune’s Technicolour imprint this October.

The Canadian producer has built an impressive discography in recent years with a consistent stream of quality releases via labels such as Clone’s Royal Oak imprint, Spring Theory, and Lone’s Magicwire.

Channeling the big room sound along with the disparate influences of his upbringing, Hope You’re Well was written and recorded off-the-road at a studio in Montreal. “I focused on long-form structures,” he explains. “Digital synthesis and clean, hi-fi production was the palette; I strayed from hooks and leaned towards intuitive melodies.”

03. You Know
04. Oh Fer Sure

Hope You’re Well EP is scheduled for October 20 release, with “Is It Dry?” streaming in full above.

Adrian Niculae (a.k.a Priku) Preps ‘Consensual’ EP

Adrian Niculae—the artist better known as Priku—will soon release a new EP on his own Motif label, titled Consensual.

Niculae is one of the leading names in the Bucharest minimal movement. As Priku, he’s shared releases via Arpiar and Eastenderz; while his releases under his own name have landed on his own labels, Motif and Atipic. The latest one, the Atipic 001 EP, landed in February 2016. He released as Priku in May this year.

Consensual, a two-track EP, will land on October 10, with distribution by Our Own. We’re told to expect “another powerful statement” from the Bucharest-based DJ-producer.

As usual, this is a vinyl-only release with limited pressings.

Stroboscopic Artefacts to Release Alessandro Adriani EP

Lucy‘s Stroboscopic Artefacts will soon to release Alessandro Adriani‘s Enter the Fire EP.

The four-track EP will be the Mannequin label founder’s debut on Lucy’s imprint, and it was probably only a matter of time until the two joined up since both are heavily invested in taking electronic music listeners outside of their comfort zone and into a world of unpredictable outcomes.

The release is also the first evidence of a new mutation in the Stroboscopic DNA, as can be seen by a shift in Ignazio Mortellaro’s design work for the label: it is in keeping with the previous horticultural theme of the records, but now features directly scanned objects—in this case, a single leaf features on the cover).

We’re told to expect a similar “hard-edged, aerodynamic style” that Adriani has perfected over the years.

Tracklisting

A2 / Rituals (707 EBM Version)
B1 / Rituals (Original 808 Version)
B2 / Astronomy

Enter The Fire EP is scheduled for November 3 release, with “He Who Harnesses The Soul” streaming in full below.
