Siinai ‘Ananda’

Siinai are no strangers to the concept album. In 2011 the Finish instrumental outfit released the Nordic Music Prize-nominated Olympic Games, a celebratory tribute and encompassment that acted as both a musical alternative and a narrative arc to the event. In 2014 they released Supermarket, a concept album conceived as a soundtrack for supermarkets, a hypnotic odyssey through shelves, aisles, and consumerism. When not busy creating such unique concepts to explore, the group are also frequent collaborations with Moonface, one of the many aliases of Spencer Krug, releasing two albums with him on JagJaguwar.

In 2017, after a brief hiatus, the group are back with a new concept and this time exploring the cyclical nature of life, the endless loops of light into darkness, and back again, as explored through shimmering synths, rich ambiance, and deeply emotive melodies. “With this record, we were seeing a lot of space imagery, specifically like in the movie Interstellar,” they say of the album’s outer planetary explorations.

Rennie Foster ‘Childish Things’ (Original Mix)

Rennie Foster‘s third LP, Game of 100 Ghosts, is set to arrive on his own RF label on September 15.

Game of 100 Ghosts—named after an old Japanese parlor game of telling ghost stories—is the first artist album to be released on RF and the first full-length offering from Foster since Blood Sugar, which was released in 2010 on Italian label Rebirth. The album was also as a result of a GoFundMe campaign, which received crowdfunding from long-time supporters and fans and music industry veterans and artists alike.

The tracks on the album have already been picking up heavy support from influential DJs and tastemakers such as Derrick May and DJ Sneak. The 12 tracks on the album, although touching on house, jazz, hip-hop, and techno, were not made to fit any pre-conceived genres or styles, as Foster explains:

“…the tracks are not intended to fit into a popular dance-floor genre, but rather to de-occult the sub-cultural connections that run deeply through all spirits of the underground.”

Ahead of the release on September 15, you can download the deep, jazz-tinged opening cut, “Childish Things,” via WeTransfer below.

Brainwaltzera ‘Aucun Christ Q W [brainwaltzera manual_patch recall]’

A few weeks ago, XLR8Rannounced the much anticipated debut album from Brainwaltzera on FILM, titled Poly-ana. The album will include thirteen tracks of both previously released material and new outings, rolling through warped electronica, IDM, and Boards of Canada-esque beats.

Now, to prep listeners for the forthcoming release, Brainwaltzera has offered up a bonus cut, titled “Aucun Christ Q W [brainwaltzera manual_patch recall],” as today’s XLR8R download. It’s a stunning track built on a range of bent melodies, frantic-yet-delicate synth lines, and gritty percussion that all dance together in machine-driven synchronicity.

You can grab “Aucun Christ Q W [brainwaltzera manual_patch recall]” via WeTransfer below, with the album arriving on September 29.

Premiere: Hear a Cut From the New Banoffee Pies Black Label

The latest Banoffee Pies Records‘ Black Label release will drop on September 8, featuring cuts from new label signees Jay Anderson, S II P, and Peshka.

Banoffee Pies’ Black Label series—which focuses on minimal and deeper sounds—kicked off back in June of 2016 with a four-track VA from Christian Jay, Larry De Kat, Florist, and Crump. Since then, the Black Series has featured Adam M Strömstedt, Hansel!, Jase, Pablo Marco, and Koko & Niccolo Borgi, among others.

The latest is a three-track EP that flows through Jay Anderson’s auto tune space journey, a cheeky, groove-led minimal exploration from S II P, and an 11-minute rain-forest trip the Ukraine’s Peshka, whose track features sampled voices from the rivers of Hanoi.

Download Amon Tobin’s Debut Sample Pack

Last week, Amon Tobin released his debut sample pack via Splice.

The pack features various sounds and samples—such as his signature bass pads, atmospheric synths, processed field recordings, and slicing one-shots—that Tobin has utilized in his productions and live sets over the years.

Splice—who some readers will remember from their 8 Days of 808 campaign, which featured content celebrating the TR-808—is a cloud-based producer platform that houses one of the largest collections of over 1 million sounds, plug-ins, and presets, including exclusive packs from artists such as Boys Noize, Mr Oizo, and, now, Amon Tobin.

You can grab the pack here.
