This weekend at Berlin’s ://about blank, Oscillate will celebrate the arrival of summer with a 24-hour party.
Running from Saturday, May 27 through to Sunday, May 28, the event will feature multiple rooms and everything from techno to house, disco, and rare grooves. At night, the main room will feature sets from Violet, Willie Burns, and LNS, with Tessela, Rachel Lyn, and Anastasia Kristensen playing on the MDF floor. Over in the tent, Castro Moore will play all-night long, and once day breaks, the garden will open with Kate Miller, Legowelt, Lola Luc, Orpheu The Wizard, and Tako providing the soundtrack.
Alongside the announcement, Oscillate has shared the latest edition in its podcast series, this time a beautiful and haunting journey from Rachel Lyn that takes in field recordings, noise, twisted modular lines, and everything in between.

Back at the start of the month, Sound of Vast co-founder Red Pig Flower—a now Berlin-based artist with releases on Baile Musik, Unclear Records, and Repeat Music—dropped her debut EP on the label.
Since launching in 2014, Sound of Vast has kept a consistent schedule of high-quality releases, outings from, among others, Egal 3, The People In The Fog, San Proper, Vid, and a slew of Unkown Artist showings. The latest falls in line with the work of the aforementioned releases, presenting three groove-led originals accompanied by a remix from Romanian artist Dubphone. Each track gives us a different taste of Red Pig Flower’s captivating sound: from the jazz-like dub of the title track to ritualistic grooves of “To My Rimbaud,” which takes inspiration from legendary French poet Arthur Rimbaud and his visions of Africa.
In support of the EP, the label has passed over Dubphone’s shadowy remix as one of today’s XLR8R downloads, available via WeTransfer below.
Cazeria Cazador began life in 2015, throwing illegal parties in the Chilean underground scene as a way to provide a place for people to dance and express themselves freely. Now in their third year, the label and crew are continuously working on developing the local scene as well as providing a platform for artists to release music, such asCZCZ V/A Vol.I – Virus Artists, the label’s first official compilation.
Across five tracks, the artists outlay the label’s ethos, delivering hazy techno cuts, fervent percussion tracks, and tripped-out, bass-heavy outings. Each cut presents a different side to the labels raw and abstract sound, whilst also encapsulating the lifeblood of the parties.
Ahead of the release, you can stream Mas569’s cut “Slammer” in full via the player below, with the EP available to pre-order here.
Julius Steinhoff and Just von Ahlefeld (a.k.a. Smallpeople) have been here before—just under 24 months ago, to be more precise. On that occasion, they collaborated with label-mate Moomin to compile an 80-minute mix of groovy yet dreamy house cuts in celebration of their label’s 10-year anniversary. Now, admittedly, artists are only permitted to contribute to our series on one occasion; however, given that this is a Smallpeople mix only, we thought it fair to make an exception.
Now, if you listened to that mix, then you’ll already be familiar with the duo’s work: together, they run Smallville records, an imprint that draws it name from the pair’s Hamburg-based record store. Founded in 2006, the label has since served as a platform for the likes of Move D, Benjamin Brunn, Lawrence, Christopher Rau, Thomas Melchior, and more. It’s a mightily impressive roster of artists and affiliates—and a wonderfully warm and subtle deep house sound aesthetic that the label boasts. It’s difficult to consider them anything other than one of Germany’s leading underground imprints.
Up this week, Smallpeople deliver a mix of house-focused cuts, spontaneously put together and laced with unreleased material from the label and its affiliaites. It is, they say, a little different to their club mixes; their performances tend to sit closer to techno than the contents of the ensuring 105 minutes. Enjoy as you will.
Smallpeople will be performing at this year’s Her Damit Festival alongside Juan Atkins, Kobosil, Konstantin Sibold, TRP, and many more leading names. A hidden gem in the annual festival calendar, and taking place just outside of Berlin from June 9 to 11, with more information, including tickets, available here.
When and where did you record the mix?
The mix was recorded on a sunny Sunday afternoon in our new record store that we just moved in a month ago, located at beautiful Karoviertel in Hamburg.
What equipment did you use?
For recording we used our Isonoe modified Bozak CMA 10-2DLA mixer, two Technics turntables, and a borrowed CDJ, so we can add some of our new and unreleased material.
How did you select the records that you included?
Most of the music included in the mix was added quite spontaneous, new records that we just took out of the shelves of our store, tracks that we were playing mostly over the last half year and some unreleased stuff.
Did you have a particular idea or mood that you wanted to pursue in the mix?
We didn’t really have a special idea, as most of our sets and mixes come quite spontaneously and are rather improvised. Of course, there are some tunes that we definitely wanted to be in it, but we guess as it was recorded on a pretty Sunday afternoon, the whole mood of the mix turned out to be pretty mellow.
How does the set compare to a Smallpeople club mix?
It’s more housey this time. We can also throw in a bit more techno stuff during a club set—but a set like this could always happen in a club if it’s the right mood..
What plans have you got for 2017?
Setting up the new store, there is still a lot of things to do. Besides this, we are working on a new Smallpeople album and putting out good music that needs to be heard.
Alter-Realities follows on from releases on Finest Hour, Rue De Plaisance, Finale Sessions Limited, and their own Bass Cadet Records with three refined analog improvisations that are at once meditative, cyclical, and driving, grooves with a fierce low-end built for the dancefloor.
Outside of their own productions, Bass Cadet Records has released outings from Ron Trent, Tolga Fidan, and Jenifa Mayanja and, until last year, the label has had a physical store on Weserstrasse in Berlin’s Neukölln district.
Ahead of the release, you can pre-order Alter-Realities here, with “Hurricane” streaming in full via the player below.
Following on from the most recent edition in Second State’s HUB series, Stewart’s Shadows On The Wall first popped up on radars when its title track was featured in Pan-Pot’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. The record spans dark, peak-time cuts to more uplifting and atmospheric outings, all directly aimed at the dancefloor.
Shadow’s On The Wall drops on vinyl and digitally later this month and can be pre-ordered on vinyl here. To give a taste of the forthcoming record, Second State has uploaded a stream of the digital bonus cut, “Ghost Tree,” a deep and trippy track, available to hear in full via the player below.
Exit Festival—the massive Serbian event which has hosted the likes of Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Prodigy for past editions—has announced that Jeff Mills will headline this year’s techno-oriented No Sleep stage.
The past few years have seen Exit’s No Sleep stage become a festival in itself, offering attendees top-notch techno and electronic acts from 10pm to 8am every night for the duration of the festival. For 2017’s edition, Exit organizers are planning for their biggest and best year yet, with Detroit techno pioneer Jeff Mills just announced for the headlining performance on Day Zero (July 5): the first night of the festival.
Mills, who will play an extended three-hour sunrise set, joins a solid cast of techno selectors such as BPitch Control boss Ellen Allien, Paula Temple, and Rebekah (who will premiere their back-to-back live hybrid set), Function, Bjarki, and many more.
Even more names for Exit’s No Sleep stage will be announced in the coming weeks. You can view the current lineup in full below.

SHXCXCHCXSH will launch a new label, Rösten, with a new EP, titled Rösten 1.
Having released on Semantica and Subsist, SHXCXCHCXSH then found a home in Shifted‘s Avian, where last year the duo released their third album SsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSs.
Now, a year later, they are set to start their imprint Rösten to “realize their ever-evolving creative visions,” and first out is their own EP Rösten 1.
The release sees them “divert from the slow-paced and oneiric sound of their last album into an uncompromising monolithic techno stream,” and also “showcase their capability of unifying functional dancefloor energy with grainy lo-fi sensibilities.”
