Alfred English “Air Grid”

Over the years, the multi-platform, Los Angeles-based artist Alfred English has stacked up an eclectic and impressive resume. Having done everything from working with Mad Decent, to making artwork for Future and Waka Flocka, to getting paid to create memes, Alfred English is a well-rounded and bewildering individual. His current gig has him working as the label manager for Jimmy Edgar‘s ULTRAMAJIC imprint and he is slated to release his new EP titled Piston on April 29 via Infinite Machine.

Ahead of this release, English provided XLR8R with the EP’s lead single, “Air Grid,” that he has graciously offered up as a free download. The track is an assortment of fiendish, spaced-out industrial sounds and hard-hitting synth lines that go hand-in-hand with the song’s unpredictable tendencies and curious, yet deeply satisfying drum patterns. Learn Five Mastering Essentials

For its latest Friday Forum Live, Point Blank invited mastering instructor Anthony Chapman to discuss and demonstrate five mastering essentials in Ableton Live using bx_digital v3 and more. Chapman touches on problematic issues that arise for most producers when mastering their own tracks and looks at key fundamentals and insider tips.

“If you see or hear something that is unexplainable, and you have no one there to share it with – what do you do?” This is the concept behind the beautifully emotive project Lulin—created by Ludvig Stolterman and Jonatan Nilsson who make up the Swedish duo Gidge. Working with the arts platform Norr and film production company Lampray, the duo has crafted a twenty-four minute film and a forty-two minute audio piece that revolves around the thoughts of a mystical being named Lulin who resides in the lonely woods near Umeå in Sweden.

313ONELOVE – A Love Letter to Detroit’s Electronic Music Scene.

“An extensive picture love letter to Detroit’s influential electronic music scene.”

Berlin Photographer Marie Staggat has compiled an epic and intimate collection of portraits, quotes, and profound stories from some of Detroit’s most influential DJs, musicians, and producers in her book ‘313ONELOVE.’ Featuring over 170 portraits, some of the artists featured in this ornate publication include Amp Fiddler, Carl Craig, Claude Young, Chez Damier, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Dez Andres, Juan Atkins, Kenny Larkin, Kevin Saunderson, Mad Mike Banks, Mike Huckaby, Moodymann (Kenny Dixon Jr.), Marcellus Pittman, Anthony Shake Shakir, and Robert Hood, amongst others.

Her publication is not only a heartfelt dedication to the electronic music made in the largest city in the US state of Michigan. It is also a charity project that will support Detroit based children of all ages, who all share a strong passion and love for music.

The book will be available in all Carhartt WIP stores and at the launch events. One will take place on March 31 at Globus (Tresor), Berlin presented by Telekom – Electronic Beats featuring Timeline from Detroit. The second date will be in Detroit on May 25 at the Museum of Contemporary Art presented by Carhartt during Movement Festival.

Fred P Announces Upcoming Album Under FP-Oner Moniker

Fred P (a.k.a Black Jazz Consortium) has announced the release of a forthcoming album on Mule Musiq, under the FP-Oner moniker. Entitled 6, the full-length is the second installment of a scheduled trilogy, coming out via the Japanese imprint. The producer’s latest LP succeeds, 5, the first segment of the project, which coincidentally debuted his latest alias. As reported by Juno, 6 represents the number of man and his or her limitations, weakness and imperfections. This body of work examines and looks towards one awakening; adapting to a new way of being, creating an alternative and reaping a higher state of mind and being, enhanced by love and serenity, satisfaction and joy.”

HMWL to Offer Artists Access to Royalty Analytics.

Swedish electronic label HMWL is set to become the first-mover among house and techno labels to give all its artists full online access to digital royalties and royalty analytics.

All the producers signed to HMWL or one of it’s imprints have now received a personal login that allows them to easily track every single stream and download generated by their tracks, sorted by different territories and services and see how their productions are being recouped over time.

Teaming up with Norwegian distribution service Phonofile, HMWL becomes one of the first labels to provide its artists with Phonofile’s newly developed artist access tool to online, fully segmented royalty reports.

This is what the label has said of the announcement:

“We’ve identified a problem within the dance community, particularly where house and techno artists are kept in the dark with no cheques, no royalty statements and no info at all about what their tracks are worth –especially in the case of third party licensing. Now we team up with Phonofile to give all our artists complete access.”

Stream the New Album from Ocoeur

Reversed is the fourth album from French composer/sound designer Franck Zaragoza and his ever-expressive Ocoeur alias.

“Au coeur” translated into English is simple: “to the heart,” and French composer and sound designer Franck Zaragoza has re-appropriated this expression as Ocoeur. With each release his output has become more personal by interjecting emotions in a way that is neither heavy on melancholy or unpleasantly overwrought, but often reflecting an artful playfulness.

The opening swell and passionate piano that precedes it sets the tone for what could very well be Zaragoza’s most personally ardent set of compositions to date. Over the course of the album, Zaragoza thoughtfully augments his modern solo piano compositions with creative—some might even say organic—sound design and meticulous melancholic string harmonies. Reversed is a truly personal listening experience, meant to be absorbed again and again.

Kappa Futur Festival Announces Full Line Up

Kappa Futur Festival has announced its full line up for this year’s edition.

Since launching in 2012, Kappa Futur Festival has firmly established itself on the global festival circuit, with music running from midday through midnight on both Saturday and Sunday. With its varied hangouts, DJs between the trees and lashings of Italian food and drink, this festival plays out in massive hangars and industrial spaces in the heart of Torino. It is a real mass communion where techno lovers unite.

Stream a Luke Slater Rework of Josh Wink

As announced on February 24, Ovum are set the release a remix package of Josh Wink’s “Denial,” featuring two reworks by Luke Slater.

Splitting his complex multi personality across two sides, Slater explores his innermost dual psyche to create two wholly different tracks, both of which reflect the strengths of the original while taking it into vastly different directions.

Intonal Announces Line Up

The second edition of Intonal Festival is scheduled to take place April 21-24, in Malmö, Sweden.

Intonal is organised in collaboration with Inkonst, EMS, IAC, Berlin’s CTM, and Poland’s Unsound, and aims to showcase genre-bending and innovative music, with the aim of creating “ a place where seemingly difficult and inaccessible musical expressions are transformed into open and joyous experiences.”

The event will launch on Thursday April 21 with a free concert at the local Johanneskyrkan Church, featuring a gong-based performance by Rrose. From there, the line up consists of the likes of James Holden & Camilo Tirado, Kassem Mosse, Morton Subotnick & Lillevan, and Detlef Weinrich as Toulouse Low Trax. The event will finally be shut down with a mysterious closing ritual performed by Stephen O’Malley of Sunn O))).
