Download a New Mix from Melodie

Cristi Tudorache is no stranger to the XLR8R channels. Not only did he feature heavily in our piece documenting the elusive Romanian music scene, the DJ-producer—who is best known as Melodie—also gave away his “Dimension X” track as a free download towards the end of last year. His next offering is a 90 minute recording of his recent set in Rodnya Club, in Moscow in January. The Bucharest-based artist has been widely tipped, by both us and Resident Advisor, as one of the most exciting talents to come from the area, and this giveaway—which is exclusively available to download here—only supports that theory.

Curtiss King “Venice Beach” (feat. Oh Gosh Leotus)

Having produced for the likes of Ab Soul, Kendrick Lamar, and E-40, the west coast hip-hop producer Curtiss King has stepped out of the shadows to focus on his solo craft. Having just dropped his full length LP Creatine on Daddy Kev‘s venerated imprint Alpha Pup Records, which has over the years established itself as a staple of the LA-beat scene, King’s ability to make fresh hip-hop productions that pays tribute to west coast G Funk while successfully pushing new sonic boundaries is proof of his dynamic production abilities.

The concept for King’s LP, Creatine, revolves around the fitness, restoration, and the lifestyles choices that are associated with pushing your body to the next level. The entire album is thirty-minutes and is designed to act as a workout companion for those of you who with a love for the gym and fresh hip-hop instrumentals. King and Alpha Pup have been kind enough to hand out the album cut “Venice Beach (feat. Oh Gosh Leotus)” as today’s XLR8R download. Coming out of the gate with clean and sunny bounce, the track features a heavy onset of funky synths that gradually become more involved and uplifting before the track splits off into a wicked, broken, and neck bending beat for the final twenty-five second push.

Check out what King has to say about the concept around his latest LP in the text below.

“It’s crazy because I was never really a huge fitness guy until last December, mostly due to the lifestyle of music. However, over the last year I just got hooked on the idea of turning my body into something I could be proud of. My album Creatine was symbolic of everything coming together. I tried to basically emulate the emotions we can go through during an intense 30 minute workout.” – Curtiss King

Protest Looms in Sydney as Lockout Laws Continue to Create Upheaval

Following a recent wave of public discourse regarding the restrictions aimed against Sydney nightlife, known as The Lockout Laws, the group known as Keep Sydney Open has planned and organized a formal protest in Sydney’s Belmore Park that is set to take place at noon on February 21.

Following two tragic incidents that took place at Kings Cross in Sydney in 2012 and 2013, the government passed a harsh measure that requires all venues to close at 3 a.m. and a 1:30 a.m lockout from any club—meaning patrons cannot enter or re-enter any venue after that time. Once teeming with a vibrant nightlife scene, Sydney’s curfew has effected hundreds of local businesses and resulted in people losing their jobs all over the CBD.

To protest this law, Keep Sydney Open will be holding a “mock funeral” for the soon to be closed bar Bar Century.

The rally is urging for:
– Lockout exemptions for licensed premises that are predominantly live music venues;
– An end to the license freeze for live music venues and small bars;
– The lifting of restrictions on retail hours;
– Late night public transport;
– The introduction of a night mayor; and
– An invitation from government to discuss next steps in partnership with those whose livelihoods depend on the music and culture industries.

You can learn more by visiting Keep Sydney Open’s website here.

NYMA “R.E.M.” (12inch Above Mix)

Berlin-based artist NYMA is a compelling DJ and producer that has been involved in some big projects lately. He was recently featured alongside Magda on a remix retrospective of four songs from the Swiss electronic band, Yello. Within this same project, NYMA and Magda have also reworked the sounds of Joy Division, LL Cool J, and Chaka Khan. All of these packages available right now for free download via the Define The Relationship website.

Today NYMA is offering up a cut from his forthcoming three-track EP on ITS ALL IN YOU titled Rapid Eye Movements. You can check out this new release on the It’s All In You website by clicking here.

Here are a few words on the concepts of the new release directly from the producer himself:

“If you want to understand human nature and the human mind.. what makes us tick.. you need to look at dreams. Being responsible for our own life and interpretation of things, we are challenged every day and night. Following connections to our unconscious mind, we convert the normal and ordinary to overly surreal and bizarre interpretations of our dreams. Are these direct messages from deities or creatures predicting the future? Sexual, frightening, adventurous exciting and melancholic feelings. What are they all about? Just manifestations of our deepest desires and anxieties camouflaged in unknown dimensions and images, or is it all just a trashy greatest hits selection of our mind? Soon you will find the only person who can answer this, or find the person who can answer it for you. They’re both reading this right now.”

For more information on NYMA and his numerous upcoming projects and tour dates, follow him on Facebook. You can also download the track “R.E.M.” (12inch Above Mix) for free right here by clicking on the WeTransfer button below.

Bit-Tuner “Twin Crystal”

Bit-Tuner is a Switzerland-based electronica producer who recently released his latest album A Bit of Light on the Zurich experimental pop label, -OUS.

Using his performance abilities to engage his listeners with a combination of energetic productions and captivating live concerts, Bit-Tuner oscillates his sets between euphoric bass-filled arrangements, buzzing sounds, and his signature percussive personality. When it comes to Bit-Tuner’s productions, they are always filled with heavy beats, vicious dreamscapes, and acid-driven melodies that gently rise and fall within disarming harmonies. With it’s latest track “Twin Crystal”, Bit-Tuner delivers a track that acts like a boomerang. Starting off gently before throwing the listener into outer space with sawing synths and swirling sounds, before returning to it’s launching point of direct kick-drums and wonky bass.

You can find out more about Bit-Tuner by visiting him on SoundCloud, and you can download the track “Twin Crystal” from it’s latest album A Bit of Light by clicking on the WeTransfer button below.

Cherushii has been working as a live PA and producer for 10 years, using her gear savvy and innate musicianship to create lush, retro-futurist productions. Her passion for music is evident in her music, which take cues from Detroit techno, Chicago house, and classic rave sounds. Over the past two years, Faith has become somewhat of a favorite for our downloads section, contributing a number of great tunes such as the ambient house track, “Everything Is In Color,” and her sexy, nine-minute, hardware driven groover “Wild Abandon.”

For her next download, Cherushii has offered up the track “Rudy’s Party” from her forthcoming Mamic EP.
