Hailing from Los Angeles, electronic music maestro, Daedelus, teams up with Roland to give an active lesson in history surrounding the evolution of one of modern music’s most vital and influential pieces of equipment, the Roland TR-808. Having previously given a similar lecture at the second Low End Theory Festival this past summer, Daedelus actively compares the old school performance rhythm machine to it’s modern counterpart, the TR-8.

Samuel Kerridge Returns to Downwards with Fatal Light Attraction

Samuel Kerridge will be returning to Downwards this coming January with the release of Fatal Light Attraction. The double-LP will mark his return on the imprint since the release of the A Fallen Empire LP in 2013.

The concept behind his latest album originated from Kerridge’s premiere of the Fatal Light Attraction performance at this year’s edition of the Berlin Atonal festival, where the producer worked alongside artists Andrej Boleslavský and Mária Júdová, to create music through the use of lights and a live coding system.

Premiere: Stream a New Heathered Pearls Remix

Melbourne multi-instrumentalist and producer Lucianblomkamp follows up his minimalistic debut album, Post-Nature, with “From Afar,” the first single from his sophomore LP, Bad Faith—which will inaugurate the Good Manners label.

Released back in August, “From Afar” is an emotionally charged slice of pop-tinged electronics which now receives the remix treatment from Ghostly International artist Jakub Alexander (a.k.a. Heathered Pearls). Originally from Poland, Alexander moved to Detroit as a teenager where his passion for ambient music (imparted upon him through his mother) and his new found love for techno collided. Similar to artists like The Field, the repetitive and swimming nature of Alexander’s sound puts forth a unique dancefloor vibe that remains overtly meditative and hypnotic from start to finish. Holding back the beats, Heathered Pearls reigns in the original Lucianblomkamp track, morphing it into a gorgeous ambient concoction of floating vocals and textural atmospherics.

Premiere: Stream Prayer’s Latest EP

Grade 10 member Prayer—who XLR8R just featured as part of its Get Familiar series—will release his sophomore EP, Beneath, on November 2.

Featuring four highly textural, dense cuts, Beneath breaks almost a year of silence from the UK-based producer. With obvious nods to UK producers such as Burial, the EP is also inspired by Prayer’s classical music background and the work of Max Richter and Philip Glass. Fusing haunting layers of ambience, beautifully twisted vocals, and hard-edged beats, Prayer has crafted a sonic world that has a nostalgic undertone whilst simultaneously pushing things forward. Post-dubstep sits inside classical frameworks, with sprinklings of jungle and grime, for a sprawling amalgamation of electronics.

Scuba Announces Final Installment of his Claustrophobia Remixes LP

Hotflush Recordings label head and techno maven Paul Rose (aka Scuba) has announced the final installment in his Claustrophobia remix series with track edits from Function and Radio Slave. The album, which features eleven remixes from ten different artists, is set for a physical release on November 13 and a digital release on December 11 via Hotflush Recordings.

After the release of his Claustrophobia LP in early March of this year, Rose has been busy with his nonstop international tour which has spanned five different continents. Once getting back to the studio this past September, Scuba employed the help of many respected techno producers and Berghain regulars to assist him in the creation of this epic and eclectic remix album. The LP boasts remixes from Atom™, Len Faki, Audion, and previously unheard reworks from the likes of Function, Radio Slave and Acid Mondays.

Watch a Lineup Preview and Video Teaser for MIRA 2015

With only a few days left before the festivities kick off, the fifth edition of MIRA Barcelona has just released their final video teaser titled “Them.” The festival, which takes place between October 30 and November 7 at multiple venues around Barcelona, features 33 concerts, 9 installations, 20 visual artists and a number of lectures and workshops. The event is committed to innovation and the blending of visuals and sound while boasting a wildly impressive lineup which can be previewed in the video above.

The series of video teasers leading up to the event, which were designed by the Barcelona studio Device, are meant to to symbolize this blending visuals and sounds. Flavio Folco “Atom”

Italian DJ and producer Flavio Folco has collaborated and released tracks on iconic underground record labels going all the way back to 2008. The first original production that we heard from Folco was on the Mediterraneo EP, which was done as a split between Folco and Angelo Pomposo on FreshFood Music, a label that Folco and Pomposo created in 2007. Folco also produced another EP on FreshFood Music titled Pacifico, which features the track “Il Tonno” with remixes by Pomposo and A-Inc. Since that time, Folco has provided tons of remixes for labels like Urbansound, Similar Records, and Grey City Records. Constantly keeping things fresh and reinventing himself, Folco is now honoring the roots of Detroit and it’s 909 and 303 sounds with his latest track being offered today as an exclusive download on XLR8R.

Flavio begins his homage to the “Motor City” by blending elements of electro, breakbeat techno, and futuristic soul with his latest track “Atom.” The song is a polyrhythmic ensemble of molecular beats and criss-crossed percussive patterns that is weighted heavily on the analog grit most associated with post-acid house. The fine details that are put into the percussions aspects of this track truly seem inspired by the future footwork and acid sounds coming out of Detroit, and we look forward to hearing more from Folco as he hopefully continues down this righteous path. Perlon Announces New Horror Inc EP

The latest Perlon EP comes courtesy of Horror Inc, a project of the Canadian artist Marc Leclair, better known as Akufen.

The release is comprised of a selection of tracks from 2013’s Briefly Eternal, that have been given a fresh remix treatment. Label co-founder Zip (under his Dimbiman guise) offers a rare contribution, and is joined by three artists new to the tight-knit Perlon family. German trio Brandt Brauer Frick’s input completes the A-side, leaving an all-Canadian B-side made up of remixes by Magnanime and Stephen Beaupré, both of whom are staples of the Montreal scene, alongside Leclair himself.

Paula Temple Remixes The Prodigy

“Roadblox,” a track taken from The Prodigy’s latest album, The Day Is My Enemy, gets the remix treatment by Paula Temple on R&S Records.

Paula has released twice previously on the Belgian label, as well as more recent output on the now defunkt 50 Weapons. For this EP, she provides both a vocal and an instrumental version of her remix of The Prodigy’s track. It is the first time that the legendary British act have combined with R&S.

Podcast 410: Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts

We’ll admit it. For a big chunk of the ’00s, probably from period beginning 2006s Sélection Surnaturelle EP on Mutek_Rec through to his second album, Circus Company’s Breaking The Fourth Wall—we were under the impression that Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts was a band. After all, why else would that ampersand be sitting there? But we were fooled, because though the Montrealer-turned-Berliner Guillaume Coutu Dumont has played live and recorded with a combo—and though he’s worked in the past in the Egg project with Julien Roy, Chic Miniature with Ernesto Ferreyra, and Luci with David Fafard—is largely the work of one man, albeit one imbued with the talent of a quartet, at least. His best releases (2012’s semi-mystical Twice Around the Sun comes to mind) layer an emotion-drenched, near-spiritual vibe over a quirky, sometimes jazz-tinged house framework…it’s music for both the head and the feet.

You get music for both extremities on the below mix, which—despite Coutu Dumont’s protestations that “you know, I am not a DJ…it’s just music I’m listening to at the moment, half trippy, half soulful”—is an absolute stunner. He’s bestowed this mix upon us as he gears up for a busy fall and winter: His ambient project, Museum, will be releasing on the New Kanada label later at the end of November for instance; his project with Vincent Lemieux, Flabbergast, has the No.1 coming out on Circus Company soon; and Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts itself has We Cannot Socialize on the way, courtesy of Muna Musik. But for now, just revel in this beauteous set.
